I love Kendra too. I think you'll find that seemingly constant negativity towards her is actually coming from just one person here.

LIES! The highest grossing Musicology tour in 2004 was kick ass and on point. Please STOP with your insults! D had 15 YEARS to come back strong. Performing live now is an artist bread & butter. D had one more chance to bring it or go back in seclusion. D obviously studied 's concert tour bootlegs and perfected his live act modeled after his idol. Even going as far as recruiting Jesse and even John B. @ one point. The muziq, The stage show, and the threads are ALL modeled after down to his gestures and dance moves. D incorporated all of that perfectively in his shows.
Plus it doesn't hurt D's vocals are still top notch live if not better. Agreed, His vocals are always tops to me on record as well as live. Most artist these days can't deliver live what they put on record.

Shelby J can sinng!!!!! LOVE her. Kendra cannot. She is also always trying to be front and center and take the spotlight. Kendra doesn't get that she is not the star. Joi knows what it means to be a backup singer and act accordingly. She doesn't do random and distracting ballet dances onstage like Kendra did. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

When I saw D a few weeks ago. She wasn't getting much love from the audience. But I liked her & also thought she sounded good on background harmonies & a solo spot.... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Why don't anyone like Kendra? It's almost as bad as the constant negativity toward Shelby J, who also sung backup for D.... People here say a lot of misogynist things about Kendra. It's disgusting. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I have a lot of respect for JOI for doing background when she is such a dynamic artist and performer herself.

Exactly...Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

JOI actually was his support act during his early Brown Sugar dates, when they where label mates on EMI. JOI is one KOOL CHICK. JOI's work with the Dungeon Family, Outkast, George Clinton, Lucy Pearl and now full circle again with D'Angelo....Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. I was curious about how that show went. I saw him the night before in Dallas and it was a great show. I was blown away and enjoyed hearing the live and stretched out versions of the Black Messiah songs.

D'angelo will be playing First Avenue September 7. Got my tickets yesterday and I cannot wait to see this show in this venue. Saw the voodoo tour at the Orpheum in mpls back in the day and it might be the second best concert I've ever seen. Also interesting that jesse johnson is in d's band. When's the last time he was at first ave?

D is playing tonight at The Roundhouse in Camden, London. Show has been sold out for some time. I've got great seats, front row, balcony centre. Great memories of seeing Prince here last year. Should be a very special night!!
