I was about third row back, center stage, for the DC show last night. It was the best concert I've ever seen. D'Angelo and the Vanguard were fantastic. They clearly had a blast performing for the audience. It was amazing to be in a room with so many other people who were enthralled by the music. I usually stand still like an asshole at shows, but I couldn't help moving my ass last night! The music just speaks to me. Thanks to D and co!

Did he perform Prayer?

No, sadly.

That's about where I was standing. Was that you in the Prince/3rdEyeGirl shirt?! biggrin

No. lol

I wonder if I saw you there. Were you near where that woman fainted? That was right by me.

One of my abiding memories from his concert was the sub-bass from that song juddering through my chest. One of those songs you need to hear in a live setting to get that full experience. biggrin It was the track that made me sit up and take notice when I first listened to the album, too.

I've been enjoying 1000 Deaths since that early version leaked years back. It's a fucking masterpiece.

I second that! It is phonkey!!! I actually like the leaked version slightly more than the released version, it is much more raw. They killed live on London in Feb and will see him again in London in July and by god I hope he does that one again smile

Yeah, I love that arrangement of it! So good. I hadn't pictured it as an opener before.

I was near there but a little off center. Right between D's microhone and the younger guitarist

Does anyone know if D's Spotify set made the rounds as a download?

Thanks. Can you download this though? I'm not a Spotify Premium member or anything. I want to add this set to my own library.

My feet completely died on me from standing for nearly 7 hours straight (we got in line right before 6), but it was totally worth it. I think a live album would be killer. The Black Messiah songs sound so fresh live with the band. I listened to the album on my commute this morning, and really missed the fuller sound it had last night.

I would give a kidney for a live album based on this tour. Holy crap. I couldn't BELIEVE how funky Back to the Future was!

I got there about 6:30 or maybe a bit earlier. Paid $20 to get my wife and I into the fast lane line. Definitely worth it. The regular line went so far back!

I don't normally go up near the front for shows because I'm short, but the stage at the Fillmore is great. No bad view in the house. Plus it's D, who's my favorite after Prince.

The people were so cool at the show too. Talked in line to someone in front of us about D and whether we'd seen him before, etc. It was nice.

People mercilessly mocked the opening band. They weren't that bad. They were different, which was cool. It takes some guts to step in front of D's audience when your band is so different.

nod Yep... they were not bad, but I think the heat, and the anticipation of D'Angelo was making people kind of irritable and impatient through her set.

Meg Mac was better than I expected. It kind of looked like she had work pants on, like she came straight from the office to the gig.

Finally watched this last night. Delightful. cloud9

Was a bit sorry they didn't come back out and do 'Untitled' (especially with the crowd chanting, "One more song! One more song!"), but I rectified that by wrapping it up with a nice version from Amsterdam.

Starting to feel like I should've booked a ticket to see him again in July. Ah, well....
