^^to be fair,though....Barbra's album was a collection of duets. Those type of projects generally tend to do well.Lionel Richie had a big-selling album a few years ago with an album of duets, too.I wouldn't want Madonna to jump on that trend.I prefer new music from her.

Madonna's album succeeded critically, but not commercially. Her fans would still see that as a success, where her detractors wouldn't. Same with Janet. When The Velvet Rope first came out, some said she was done because it didn't do what her previous albums did sales-wise out of the gate, but the critical praise was phenomenal. That's what success being relevant means. As for what I said, well, on a commercial level Madonna's album DID flop. It shows that people are tired of her on a whole. What her album did and what a new Janet album has the potential to do are two different things. Janet isn't whoring herself out in the media on a daily basis, and has been away so long that people are itching for her to return.

but what makes you think that people aren't tired of Janet? As I recall, the general public started tuning Janet out after her SuperBowl performance. Her last big album was All For You in 2001.None of her tours since then have been hugely successful, either.

They were tired after the SB, indeed. But the climate is different now. One single tweet that says nothing at all became news everywhere: USA, Germany, Netherlands, France. Brazil...

Her fans miss her (hasn't it been 7 years since her last album?),but that doesn't mean that the general public is hungering for a new Janet album.

Of course not. But at least they're not tired now, I think. If it's good they won't abandon it just like that. I don't know, we'll see. If she ever come back.

plus, you gotta realize that CD sales are at an all-time low right now.It gets worse every year.Mariah's latest CD sold less than 60k in its' first week! Pharrell had the biggest hit song of 2014 ("Happy") and yet his album barely went gold.

lol It's hilarious how some of the posters in here only seem to comment when it's a controversial Janet thread, or a thread pitting her against another artist, but if it's a thread about her music or her work as a whole, you never see them.

It's also funny that some Janet people only comment in Janet threads and none of the threads about other acts. razz

This is the epitome of untrue. lol

lol Actually your the one thats pressed for some reason. Why I don't know. shrug Why can't you discuss Janet without bringing up these other artists? If she can truly stand on her own accomplishments (which she is more than capable of doing) why do you constantly need to compare her to other artists?

We talk all the time about how Janet is underrated here so I don't get what your issue is. However, insisting she is bigger than MJ or Madonna is downright delusional, sorry but it is.

I don't think she does either. Janet is enjoying her life with her sexi billionaire hubby and I ain't mad her lol The thing is.... nobody is really bashing Janet in this thread. eek There are always threads here admiring her songs and insisting she underrated so I don't get all the complaints that people are dogging her. But if you say some ridiculous crap like Janet is bigger or sold more albums than MJ than that b.s. will be corrected. lol

Pressed? lol What gave you that impression? Because I said that people seem Janet-hungry these days in comparison to other artists? You've never seen me say Janet is "bigger than" anyone, only that she doesn't get her proper due when it comes to being a trendsetter, and that she's often overlooked in the media for her achievements. Just a few short years ago you were in the Org deeming Janet the worst thing since the ebola virus when that whole Paris/Katherine ordeal was going down, and I've seen your opinion about her waver back and forth over the years. Not that it matters to me really, because, well, it just doesn't.

Stop right there ....because obviously it does bother you lol otherwise you would not have responded to me the way you did nor would you have brought it up. I don't care but thats the reason why I called you pressed because nothing in my post was negative towards Janet but thanks for proving my point. wink

Lastly, I don't really owe you an explanation for any of my opinions. lol I don't think any celebrity is exempt from criticism. I like Janet as an artist but yes she has done some shady shit that I don't agree and I have no problem with calling it out likewise insisting at the same time that she is underrated as an artist. I don't have to mold my opinions to fit your liking and if you have a problem with that, thats your issue not mines. lol You Janet stans go to far when you try to go out of your way to bash Madonna and Michael in order to elevate Janet. You don't have to do that because she is successful in her own right. This thread is a fail because the Janet fans are the ones that instigated the comparisions with MJ/Madonna so you can't get mad when people come with receipts refuting these ridiculous comparisions.

Before Butterfly Mariah's music and image was very clean and could sell to Christian prudes while Janet and certainly Madonna could not. That's what they mean by safe.

What was unclean about Madonna's music, at least in the 1980s? It was more her actions and some of her videos than songs like Borderline, Angel, Material Girl, Live To Tell, True Blue, and Vogue. Madonna's music was no more dirty than Lionel Richie's. Madonna & Janet was no 2 Live Crew or Millie Jackson. lol

Like a Virgin and Papa Don't Preach? I do believe a quality record that happens to be clean has a sales advantage over more provocative artists. Look at Adele's 21 or Whitney's debut. And that played a big part in Mariah's early success.

This topic only shows that many people can't stand Janet's artistic and commercial success. She's fantastic until she's not above my favorite artist. Janet won't finish more legendary than Michael (no one ver will, for so many reasons - music is the last one). But Janet will most definitely finish as more legendary than Madonna in the U.S. and Japan. That's clear.

nuts Madonna has sold over 300 million records in her career.Don't take my word for it....look it up in the Guiness Book of World Records. Her last tour (MDNA Tour) was the most successful tour ever,by a female artist. She is also in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame.

But guess what? I don't care about these things, though.I just enjoy her music and her tours, that's enough for me.She doesn't need me to bend over backwards trying to spotlight her accomplishments. It's sad that you feel that you must do this for Janet disbelief

Madonna Bests Paul McCartney As World's Richest Recording Artist

By Joe Lynch | December 02, 2014 1:43 PM EST

Madonna Bests Paul McCart... Billboard

Madonna tops a new list of the world's wealthiest recording artists, besting fellow 1 percenters Paul McCartney and Dr. Dre. According to Wealth-X's net worth valuation of the pop queen, Madge is worth a staggering $800 million.

That's significantly less than the one billion the New York Post valued her at in 2013, but it's far ahead of Sir Paul, whose net worth Wealth-X places at $660. For those of you who thought Macca had more scratch, keep in mind that his wife, Nancy Shevell, is worth a reported $300 million. So although the McCartney couple is worth more than Madge, the former Beatle isn't richer than her on his own.

Following McCartney comes Dr. Dre who -- despite that massive Beats deal with Apple -- is at No. 3 on the list with $650 million. Speaking of rap moguls, Diddy is the fourth-wealthiest recording artist in 2014 -- although at this point, both Dr. Dre and Diddy are more businessmen than active recording artists.

But keep in mind that this is a list of the world's wealthiest recording artists. When you include musicians as a whole, you open the list up to composers and theater moguls like Andrew Lloyd Webber -- a man worth around $1.2 billion. So clearly, Cats pays better than Beatles.

Here's Wealth-X's full list of 10 Richest Recording Artists. Amounts are in U.S. dollars.

1) Madonna $800 million

2) Paul McCartney $660 million

3) Dr. Dre $650 million

4) Diddy $640 million

5) Celine Dion $630 million

6) Bono $590 million

7) Mariah Carey $520 million

8) Jay Z $510 million

9) Elton John $450 million

10) Beyonce $440 million

Inflation will make, like 100 other artists, in the next 50 years 10x richer than Madonna.

That's inflated fake number. The Guiness Book of World Records even admitted they don't have any evidence for this and MJ's Thriller (they claim he sold it in 100+ million - but he didn't)

Her tours are bigger than Janet's 90s tours, or MJs all tours only because of inflation.

I would. But I said that because you wrote end of thread as it's the most important aspect of their careers. It isn't, cause it wasn't everybody's main goal. Janet turned many money-making deals (Vegas residency, American Idol judge, underwear collection...). It's her choice. ABBA members were offered 1 billion in 2000 to perform - and they said no.
