Dick Griffey was basically a pre-cursor to Suge Knight.
Folks like Sharon Osbourne's father Don Arden and Nat Tarnopol and many others was along these lines too. Nat was said to have mafia connections. Bon Jovi's manager Doc McGhee did some drug smuggling.
Did you read LaToya Jackson's book? Turns out her manager had ties to the mob and her world tours were a front for smuggling.
Why would Jody want to be back associated with a group that caused her so much turmoil in her life? She has enough solo hits of her own. I can see if she had just one hit. Like most solo acts barely have. Then she may need their extra ones. But she doesn't. Even her ex husband didn't perform 's hits when he came back. He only had one hit solo song & didn't perform that!
Watley isn't interested in the "Shalamar" her main objective is to fuck with the people around Shalamar who caused her grief / pain.
As I mentioned to phunkdaddy, Jody should have taken satisfaction in the fact... she had the music career and the other two flopped. She could have taken satisfaction in Solar Records begging her stay in the fold... after they had dogged the girl. At this point, I don't think Watley isn't at peace. There's something about that idea... you need forgive folks in order for you to move on. Still, if the fake group was a success, she'd still have somthing to say and she'd still be miserable.
Still sounds like a big unnecessary headache to me......

No. But, I read somewhere the the mob had ordered a hit on Sammy Davis Jr., but Frank Sinatra talked them out of it. It had something to do with money that was given to Sammy. Rap-A-Lot Records was supposed to be a money laundering front. J. Prince was also known to beat up his acts. Berry Gordy was rumored to have mob help in the 1960s, and this is how Motown became really big so fast, but he denied it. But it wasn't a big secret that the mafia or other street hoods had a hand in show business including old Hollywood and places like the Cotton Club and Las Vegas.
You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I never heard that about Rap-A-Lot. KRS-One said that B-Boy Records (released Boogie Down Productions' Criminal Minded) was a front for something.

Charlie doesn't mention his name, but he's talking about Lonnie Simmons, who ran Total Experience

She hasn't forgiven them clearly by her starting this bootlegged version You would think her ulitmate revenge would be having a successful solo career (when she did) but that wasn't the case. Crazy but I think the only way she would get peace if she reunited with Howard and Jeffrey. Talk it out and move on .

That story is nuts! I wonder when Gap Band and Lonnie Simmons settled the royalty payments because apparently Charlie is collecting off "Uptown Funk" by way of "Oops Upside Your Head" songwriting credit.

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

I agree
DAT....
ain't happening, ever.
Ms. Watley needs to move on but it doesn't mean she need sto involve herself with Howie & Jeff.
Meanwhile Howard is posting Soul Train performances of the version with Micki Free dressed like ....Micki was a fanatic! Howard is sending subliminal shade toward Jody...Performing "Dead Givaway"! How many know that it's Jesse Johnson doing that guitar solo on that cut?

If they don't sit down and work things out once and for all,the drama and bad feelings will go on forever and forever there has to be a resolution.
David you can forgive folks but you don't have to have a relationship....she can keep her distance. She forgiving them for her own self... really, fuck Howard and Daniels
What could have helped, if Daniels and Howard sat down with Watley years ago and admit what they did and privatelyapologized. That's is if these two men were for the right thing... Howard basically groveled through Unsung - hoping those 3 could unite - while not saying or skirting his treatment of Watley. That's wanting your cake and eating it too. (IMHO) As I've said, those 3 don't like one another.... this drama going to go on until old age( they are all over 50) and/or death.
