Come on you know by the time she left their time was up anyway as music started changing. It wouldn't have mattered if she stayed. My point was during their prime he was the guy that put Shalamar on the map and kept them on the charts for the first part of the 80's. Jody had a good voice too but not strong enough to lead the group. Remember she started out as a dancer. Even if you could check everybody's ego to do a new album there would only be interest from nostalgic fans from that era. Me personally I don't give a damn about a new Shalamar album now but it would have been nice to see the big 3 work out differences to do some dates together. if given the choice I would certainly prefer to see Howard, Jeffrey, and Griffeys niece versus Jody's version. I seriously hope they can just give it a rest because Jody has been whining since Unsung. and the public will just have 2 versions of Shalamar and fans can make their choice whom to see.

Lies! Shalamar was @ the TOP of the charts! With their biggest hit "Dead Giveaway" zooming up the charts, when Jody & Jeffrey left. Overseas they were even bigger.

You do have a point.Howard was the vocal powerhouse of the trio,which is why he sang lead on practically all of their hits.It's just such a shame that these three members are fighting and competing with each other,instead of reuniting and giving the fans what they really want.It's absurd that fans have to actually decide which version of the group to go see in concert.

I never said they wasn't! Jody & Jeffrey left after the filming of the "Dead Giveaway" video. They were still obligated to promote the project. But left right afterwards. BLOOP!

I have "The Look" also DUDE. I know the whole history of the group like I said before.

^^Whenever I hear the song "Over and Over" (from The Look album),it makes me kinda sad.That was the last,final Shalamar single that featured Howard,Jody and Jeffrey.It's a superb song,but it leaves me with a sad feeling

Who's the person who's career tread water for several years before it drifted out to sea?That's the irony, the person who could sing in the group, flopped; the person who was grabbed off the flo' of Soul Train, the person who can't "sang" had the music, plus more stardom, plus mo' money. I know truth sometimes is stranger than fiction. OH WELL.

Ain't nobody interested in seeing Watley's version of Shalamar and ain't nobody interested in seeing Howie & Jeff version of Shalamar. I've done a lot of tongue in cheek humor about all of this but Watley may need to get some help because she can't let it go.The best revenge was Watley becoming a huge success after Shalamar. This chick could tour on her own steam know but no she's soooo fixated on fucking with Howie & Jeff.

For the longest time,Jody seemed 100% focused on her solo career and didn't seem interested in Shalamar at all.It's strange that she is now forming her own version of the group and deciding to focus primarily on that that's why I find her comments about "not wanting to do what I've already done before" kinda ridiculous.

Indeed. She didn't need to pick up two main male singers as stand-in's under the brand "Shalamar" if she just wanted to sing "Take That To The Bank" or "A Night To Remember" during a gig billed as Jody Watley. Diana Ross to this day does not tour as The Supremes, but of course has a quite a few Supremes songs in her set.

Meh I know Jody had more success as a solo artist. Hell I was given promo copies of all her shit from her debut album. Music had started becoming watered down with adult contemporary stuff. People had their fill of r&b and pop fluff. Jody and Janet just before her happened to be in the right place at the right time. Howie wasn't as successful but he had a few hits as a solo artist. His lack of success was primarily due to the fact Howie wasn't a dance artist. He was a pure soul singer and you know damn well he wasn't going to overtake MJ, Freddie Jackson, or Luther on the

charts as the top male dog in R&B during that period. I was happy for Jody's success probably more so for Andre Cymone. Things didn't work out to well for Jody after her first 2 albums. Name me one hit after the first two albums. I agree Jody crushed Howard as a solo act but I still say

Howard's voice was the identifiable one with Shalamar. Who knows if this group would have ever prospered without Howard as lead. Dammit call me crazy but I grew to like Mikki Free's version better for awhile.

Thing is JODY had never relied on SHALAMAR hits in her previous tours. She only started bringing certain tracks in slowly. I once saw her when she added A NIGHT TO REMEMBER into her set this was after the MAKEOVER project. She has a new arrangement of FULL OF FIRE in her current set.

Look at how often that Tony Sheridan album with The Beatles as his backup band get repackaged. When Thriller was big, Motown released an album of remixed unreleased songs called Farewell My Summer Love in 1984. The title song even became a Top 40 hit.

Nope Jody's Shalamar actually plays my area this summer (on a bill with KC & The Sunshine Band),but I have no interest in going.
