I got to shoot and direct an interview with John Legend's drummer Rashid Williams I was contacted out of the blue to help an ambitious new friend, Jocelyn Lavong with this project. She conducted the interview (reporter style), and I called the shots and asked for certain tones of Q&A (you know, like, "now talk about something personal... I'm going in for a close up").
It was before John Legend's concert in Houston at Sugar Hill Studios where long ago, Destiny's Child once recorded. Rashid is also a drummer for Jill Scott.
The last thing I said to Jocelyn after the shoot was "Next time, make it Prince." But that's not to say this wasn't an amazing fun experience, and he got real, even going into the negative aspects of touring with a big star (seperation from family and home).
Here's frames from my footage (the edit is coming soon).
