Straight Outta Compton Album Is Pretty Flawed. I know the album is seen as an untouchable classic. And the first 3 classics are absolute classics in the hip-hop realm. The dark street life angle is still fresh to this day. And the production was even kind of groundbreaking.
Dopeman is a classic
8 Ball is fun
Express Yourself is fun
The rest.... i mean does anyone ever talk about ''Something to dance to'' ? or comptons in tha house? or i ain't tha 1? the rest of the album is just cheesy dance tracks. It's funny how this album was so controversial at the time. When half the album is just 80's dance tracks.
100 Miles and Runnin is a pretty good EP.
...ZFORLIFE is a shitty album.
Ice Cube's albums are way better than any of N.W.A or the crews albums. I can tell he was the true mastermind behind N.W.A. Mc Ren's rines are average at best. And he wrote Eazy E's line so there ya go Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Straight Outta Compton was pretty groundbreaking for its time in its absolute rawness. Especially coming out of the west coast when all of the hip hop titans were based in New York. The title track and "F*** Tha Police" made it huge. "Gangsta Gangsta" and "Express Yourself" were cool tracks, but the rest of the album wasn't all that. Ice Cube and Eazy E were the premier rappers in the group, MC Ren did some backup, and Dr. Dre and Yella did the production. It's notable that after the breakup, only Ice Cube and Dr. Dre had any solo success, and Dre's Chronic was huge because he had Snopp Dogg and the Death Row crew doing a lot of the work on the album.

I actually agree with you on this, the group that we know and love and will be the focus of the movie are essentially one hit wonders. You explained it best, Cube moved on to bigger and better things, Dre is who he is, Eazy discovered Bone Thugs and met with Father Bush prior to his death and Yella directed porn movies. It seems on the surface that they are friends since they all agreed on the film which may spark a reunion to drum up interest, we shall see. Jeux Sans Frontiers |

Speaking for myself, I only played the title track, F*** Tha Police, Gangsta Gangsta, & Express Yourself within my rotation. |

I didn't like a single track on that release. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent. |

You haven't menioned PArental Discretion Iz Advised which I think is one of the key tracks, or I Ain't The One, which is the comic relief.
Then Ren-and-Dre raps aren't up to much but they hold the thing together. It's kind of like those moments in the Exorcist that give you a chance to catch your breath in between the intense moments.
It's totally classic and groudbreaking, not the same thing s "flawless". It's got enough juice to get over any weak spots. |
