D'Angelo continued
I couldn't post in the D'Angelo thread, so I'm bold and start a new one.
I couldn’t afford a ticket for his show in Amsterdam. Now, I’m not so sad about that anymore. He’s lost my support.
Because, his behavior comes as across as pretty ridiculous to me. I mean, why does he think he deserves to be treated like a King? His best asset is his voice. He is some guy who can sing very well. It’s not that he invented the cure for cancer or that he delivered World peace! I mean, why does he behave as if he is a better human being than the rest of human kind?
I have little respect for people who think they are entitled to unrelenting standards. Is there anybody around D’Angelo who can provide him with a reality check?
He disapproved of the hotel that was booked for him. Mind you, it's a very good Hotel, in the center, at walking distance of the venue. It’s were all the artists stay, unless they are Prince or Madonna. D’Angelo stayed in his LIMOUSINE for three hours, until he got a different hotel.
I mean, where Prince, Beyoncé and Jay-Z cycle around in the city, Diva D’Angelo sits in his LIMOUSINE. While Beyoncé sits at the local McDonalds for a quick meal, D’Angelo does not want to sleep in the hotel where most artists stay. Pfffffffff.
If you have been in Amsterdam, you know that the best part of the city is cycling around. If you stay in your limou, you only get to see the boring main car roads, not the beauty of the city. But, hey, while Prince cycles from his hotel to the venue, D’Angelo demands a limousine.
You know, if that would have been it, I would not even care. I mean, you would expect from somebody with those kind of high standards, which he himself delivers accordingly, right?
No, the people who were all excited to see him, had to wait. Apparently, D’Angelo does not care that for a lot of folks, a concert ticket is a lot of money. At least, he does not behave accordingly. He let his audience wait. Why? I mean, must be a very important thing, right?
D’Angelo did not want to start before he was served distilled water. Yes, in a city where the tap water is the same quality as bottled water, D’Angelo freaks out over what kind of bottled water he gets. And if he did that in his own time, who cares? But he kept his paying audience waiting, because he demanded distilled water.
Sorry, but I think that kind of behavior is out of order and that this man lost touch with himself. I almost feel sorry for him, that he measures his self worth by getting exhorbitant things.

There is a thing called a RIDER that every artist has and if they request a certain item it better be there. Even if they dont touch it. Maybe he didnt want to be in the common hotel that everyone know that artist reside when they come to town, its called privacy.Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. You really think he is entitled to this kind of behavior?

He's worth about 2 million. To put that in perspective, MC Hammer is worth about 1.5 million. And Vanilla Ice is worth about 18 million. I think you have a point. Maybe his brain is just fried from drugs or he suffers from the Lauryn Hill syndrome where you think you are more important than you are.

This shouldnt have happened unless he booked with a company that don't know what they're doing or none of these things he requested was in his rider. Change it one more time..

I watched the red bull music academy interview with him, which was quite a long interview and he came across as a generally humble person to me. You should check it out. There must be more (or perhaps less) to this story than what's in this thread... Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

I agree with you. However, the hotel is a really good hotel. The bottled water he got, is perfectly fine.
That's my point.
The people who arranged everything are experienced and know what they are doing. It's not that he got mistreated or anything.
What I think is sad, that he spends his time and energy and good mood on very questionable issues. I mean, he could have enjoyed the city, take a nap, have a shower, but in stead he chose to spend 3 hours sitting in his limousine, just to pressure folks to arrange him a different hotel.
I mean, that hotel is a very good hotel, it's not that he was put in some shitty place. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

You are right, that there can be something else going on. He could have had a bad day or something like that.
Most people would be very, very grateful if they could afford to stay one night at that hotel. You know, working people.
I mean, the social workers, people who work their ass off to make sure the most vulnerable folks get some help, are not able to stay in a hotel like that.
So, because the man can sing, he thinks he is in the position to have his audiance wait because of the bottle of water he doesn't like?
What is your explanation for this?

What amazes me most is that he spoils his own day too, right? I mean, if you have to choose between 1. making a big fuzz out of nothing and stressing yourself and everybody around you out, or 2. you just go with the flow, accept that life will never be perfect, and just enjoy your stay and treat your paying costumers with some respect.
Well, if stardom comes with that much unhappiness over a bottle of water, it's doesn't seem very appealing to me. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

No. Funny enough, the person who told me this, did not care about this at all. He thought D'Angelo was great and fantastic.

I know about the hotel deal and Djj, you are blowing this up for no reason. His tour manager talked about it and he wasn't the only one in his group who switched out of that hotel. Stop making him look bad. I have been a fan of D for years and by all accounts, he is humble and not materialistic. Even if he is a diva, he has earned the right. Now move on and find something else, something more important to get riled up about. Him switching hotel rooms should have no effect on your appreciation of his talent. Trust me, even if he did throw a fit, there are other stars who have done way worse. this is nothing.
Not to mention, this was not worth making a new thread for. You making a whole thread and throwing a tantrum over this makes you look bizarre and petty. Does this effect you personally? No. There is a thread called D'Angelo LIVE on this board that everyone is posting in. If you had searched, you would have found it and you could have posted this drivel in there. Of course it doesn't matter to me at all. If he thinks he's right, he sure has to do what he has to do. Just like the other band members. I do wonder why though. Because the traveling is harsh on musicians and one of the reasons why this hotel is nice, is because they can have a rest and walk over for a sound check. So, they don't need to travel back and forth from hotel to venue.
And you are right, I should not let these kind of things influence my opinion on his talent. As I mentioned, he got nothing but raving reviews. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

So, conclusion, D'Angelo is a good artist with a very specific taste for water. Not a diva at all. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

1. So what did Alan Leeds say, and where did you read what he said? I´m curious. I´ve always thought of D´Angelo as a rather humble person, and now that you mention Alan, I´d like to know why they both did not want to stay in that hotel. D is anything but a diva, especially after a 15 year long hiatus. Do you have any background info on this? 2. Any idea why he drinks distilled water? As far as I know, distilled water is not even healthy. Some experts say it might even be dangerous in the long run. 3. Off topic, but D looks very buff and in great shape these days. I wonder if he gets to work out during the tour. And....I´m going to google his rider now.
- This is a bit odd though...why would he spend three hours in a limousine while being in Amsterdam, of all places? He loves some good cheeba every now and then. If I were him, I´d have checked out the city a bit, and maybe scored some more weed. By the way, we had to wait for 75 minutes (in Hamburg) before he finally showed up on stage, which was a bit of a letdown because many folks, including myself, were from out of town, in the middle of the week, and had to catch the last train back home, so I had to take a cab to make it to central station. But the show was superb! And the stress was well worth it. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

DJJ, there was absolutely no reason for this post, especially when it is based on hearsay. And you didn't need to start a new thread for it. Why you made it other than to stir up bullshit, is beyond me. What D did about the hotel room or didn't do and his reason for doing or not doing it, are no concern of yours. Kool, it wasn't Alan, it was his other tour manager.

Im not arguing the point with you, just stating that these things don't happen when there's proper communication between the artist, the tour manager and contracting venues/agencies (assuming they're all competent). I can't comment on whether he's a diva or not as I've never really been into him enough to follow his goings-ons. Change it one more time..

I tried it on the other thread, but wasn't able to post there. That is why I started a new thread.
But I totally agree with you that it's no biggie and that it gets way too much attention now.
