She can sing. But she oversings everything. It's like a hurricane force wind right in your face for two hours when all you really need is a blow dry. And she doesn't stick to singing, as we all know. She blurts out bullshit to the crowd constantly, to the point where she's a net negative on stage. She would detract from D's band.

..until you play "Adore"....and "And God Created Woman"...

Ex-classamate said that Prince reaches back into funk and soul/R&B to "return at times".."Sign O' The Times" (after the pop-flare ended with The Revolution being disbanded after UTCM and "Parade", and after "Graffiti Bridge")

That whole early NPG era of "Diamonds & Pearls" "Symbol", CDs influenced D'Angelo..and:

Raphael Saddiq and Toni Tone Tony's "Sons of Soul" and "House of Music"..

(Dudes looked like The NPG, and were playing classic jazz guitars..--looking like Levi..lol)

It influenced Jam & Lewis production of "That's The Way Love Goes" for Janet... The production credits even go to a group called "The Flow"..

It probably inlfuenced early-Maxwell some...

Plus, he gave most of his funk/black stuff to The Time...

The Black Album is mostly a Time CD....

He shoots pop and rock, but returns....when needed

I think the point was D'angelo shouldnt have a stronger/tighter/funkier

band out on the road than the one Prince has.

& IMO in 2015 he does.. 100%.

What I don't understand is that fans can't accept that these two musicians have two totally different career trajectories and two different musical scopes. Prince can assemble a band like the one you described in a heartbeat, but that's besides the point. What D does is independent of Prince and vice versa and that's the way it should be. The Vanguard is a tight soul band and D's is a soul musician to the core, so he should have a band with tight and funky chops. I think the intention of 3RDEYEGIRL is a female rock trio that plays loose and intense. This is not a contest on which artist has the "funkier" band.

Nobody is moving backsides...

The fans seem to be just "vibing'"....now

"Prince-like riffs" aside...

You got to move backsides...not just musicianship...

You can tell a difference...

Funk bands, groups, and producers made you dance...Not "Over-souling", and trying to beat Lenny at his rock game..

Your singles had to work in the dance clubs....

They made you dance in your car seats... It's all gone now...Just Hiphop made talking a bunch of trash-talking more funky than a funky beat...

Back then.... Rick James, Prince, The Time, Lakeside, Slave, Cameo, Ohio Players, P-Funk, even Mike had to move your body first to get to your mind...

Prince and MJ went pop, and finishhed it all..."Pillow-Talk/Quiet Storm R&B" and Hip Hop stole the youth..

People came to your shows to dance....even after disco was over... People danced at stadium-concerts too.. Probably high or drunk though...lol..which is a shame.. Still, this stuff now seems sluggish, image-driven, and too contrived.

Prince can do funk and rnb very well, but that is not who he is. His musicianship is indefinable. If I had to solely categorize Prince in terms of musical category, I would say rock.

D cannot do rock. It is not who he is.

"Live" is so fucking overrated.

Give me the vinyl and a nice pair of headphones and that is the perfect, preferable listening
experience in my opinion.

You can't appreciate the dense and nuanced production of Black Messiah live.

Lucky we have both. I love when they flipped the arrangments during a live show.

Lucky for you, bro!

I'm the dude in the audience who wants to hear every single component of the album reproduced
on stage, so when artists "flip the arrangements" during a live show, I go "ugh."

Why even see a concert then? New arrangements is part of what makes concerts great. It's art, not a factory reproducing identical goods.

D echoes Prince just like Prince echoes James Brown the Parade tour is legendary and dam near untouchable, but the James Brown influence is all over it. There's nothing wrong with that.

Agreed but the Parade Tour was also inspired by David Bowie's Last Dance Tour. Prince was able to mold an original stage show inspired by his predecessors without being completely derivative.

I was lucky enough to see the lesser spotted D'Angelo show in London last night. I just have one thing to say about it - it was utterly transcendent.

Okay, now y'all can go back to squabbling over who out of Prince and D'Angelo has the biggest weenie.

I rarely attend live shows because of this. New arrangements is part of what makes POP concerts
great for you; not for me.

If I'm in the mood to hear new arrangements for music recordings, I'll attend a jazz show where
improvization leads to new ideas and expressions. I'm really not complaining about live shows as
a whole as I prefer jazz (and classical) over pop so I have no issues with those kinds of shows.

When I was making a living as a musician, my strength was in album production, and that is a
listening experience to be appreciated alone, with some headphones. I like hearing nuance
and studiocraft, and you just don't get an opportunity to hear that at a live show.

The second reason why I don't like live pop shows is because I do not like pop audiences and I
do not like crowds. Jazz audiences and classical music audiences shut the fuck up and listen, albeit
they are different types of music and listening experiences altogether!

Interesting angle. If I knew a live concert would be nothing more than a repeat of the album, I wouldn't go with a 100 miles of that concert. That is what the album is 4.

D'angelo is the Man.. Super Soulful.. The Real Deal..

But.. IMO he may want to stop himself from watching 1986 Prince videos before his next tour.

I think the Voodoo tour was way more of a copy of Prince tour than this new one.
