Thanks for sharing Kool and please add more detail when you feel like it

Some more tidbits....nothing major, just a few things I forgot:

- Like Phishanga already mentioned, the first song that he played was Prayer, not 1000 Deaths as wrongly stated by me.

- Jesse Johnson´s afro looks a little bit like the afro Prince is sporting these days.

- D´s black guitar is really shiny and sparkly now (or blinged out lol ) due to a huge amount of little crystals on the edges of his guitar.

- I forgot to mention some songs, namely Prayer, Chickengrease and Sugah Daddy.

- There probably was an encore but I had to catch my train and left the show after the big jam at the end of the show. Most folks left though....not too sure whether he played an encore. Probably How Does It Feel....at least that´s what I heard from some folks...but that´s just from hearsay. Like I said, I left shortly after 11.10 p.m .

Just got back from the Hamburg show, and it was great! Saw Mr. Alan Leeds exit the backstage door right before the concert started and walk back in again. It was nice to see him again, albeit from afar. I´m glad he´s still working with D´Angelo.

The concert was supposed to start at 8 p.m but D´Angelo came onstage at 9.15 , which was a real bummer... but the show started with a blast.....1000 Deaths was the first song he played and it sounded very close to the original version.

He also played The Charade and the synergy between him and Jesse Johnson was just phenomenal. Great rendition and audience response, and I think D gave Jesse a hug or a kiss on the cheek when they finished playing the song, or maybe he just said something into his ear. Seeing and hearing him play that song with Jesse Johnson was a profound concert experience. I´m too tired to go into elaborate details now and words can´t do that performance any justice. Just believe me that it was a very moving and special part of the show.

He played quite a lot of songs from the new album Black Messiah and went on with a slow and beautiful version of Really Love which changed into a beautiful jam later on and he also played some older songs with completely new arrangements that I absolutely loved. He played Alright , Lady, Brown Sugar, and a long version of One Mo Gin off the Voodoo album. If I recall correctly he also played Jones In My Bones but I could be wrong.

The band is tight, energetic, extremely funky and D´Angelo sounds great. His vocals were top notch.

--

Regarding the comparisons to the Parade tour, I don´t really see that many similarities. The vibe was totally different but I understand that some parts may come across as reminiscent of Prince or James Brown, with the "On the one!" and "On the two!" and "25 ! " cues or those two background singers and dancers who reminded me a bit of Wally Safford and Gregory Brooks with their sunglasses and baseball cap but then again, not really that much. One could also compare the extended part of One Mo Gin to the Electric Man part in Head during the Parade tour but that´s probably because I was trying a bit too hard to find some similarities after reading some of the posts here or watching the clips above.

I´m VERY happy I could go and see this show, and I´m so glad that D´Angelo is healthy and hopefully happy. The last time I saw him was also in Hamburg 14 years ago.

After being in D´s corner here on the org during all these years when most people no longer believed in him, it was an added pleasure to see him deliver such a superb show tonight.

I was there, too! Fantastic concert. I had high expectations but those were easily surpassed. "Prayer" was the first song, though. "1000 Deaths" is a beast live. Sound quality of the bass wasn't the best where I was standing at first. I didn't really expect it to start before 9pm, so that was ok for me.

You are absolutely right! I was too busy having a little argument with some fucking idiot in front of me so I completely erased that bit from my memory. Took me about two or three songs (and until the idiot moved elsewhere) to get back into the right mood again.

Yes, last encore was "Untitled". Too bad you missed it, they killed it! Had some issues with the bass at first (made strange cracking noises) so they restarted after a couple of seconds.

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

DAMMIT. I NEED A SOUNDBOARD LEAK. lol

I second that! I was at the London show last Friday and it was phonkee!!! I dream of a recording a la the Stockholm show from 2000....

It was an amazing night and it was so good to see D happy and enjoying himself so much. And the band! This band is tight! And they can jam. Long funky jams. And D's voice was on. I feel quite blessed to have experienced it.

I think I saw two cameras, mayby it was filmed...?

Man, the Stockholm live Cd is one of my fave live discs ever! So funky it's unreal.

There's a FLAC-extended version of Stockholm with stuff and interview.

You should grab it if you can!

I'll have to look for that version. I think the CD is a bootleg isn't it, that's what discogs says, but it does turn up in a lot of places where you'd expect only official stuff would be, like on Spotify and Amazon. It's an amazing recording though, I agree there, was listening to the Jam Jammin' bit at the end on the bus today, and that's just insanely funky.

As an aside, are there any other Voodoo or prior shows circulating, aud or soundboard? I have the North Sea Jazz festival one, but that's the only other I've been able to find.

That is great news, thanks! That is where I saw him in 2000 during the Voodoo tour, which was a fantastic show. Hope it will be just as good again this time around.

"Lady" is too fast live.....Same style as "Voodoo tour"..Let that "clap" ring-out some, and ease the drums..

I just like the laid-back style that Saadiq co-produced on that recording...

Don't care for the "Liquor store" lyric, but I really like that song...

Fo me too, I think that song is best performed slow. Like here with Angie on background vocals. This will probably stay the best version ever for me, so smooth!

I think the point was D'angelo shouldnt have a stronger/tighter/funkier

band out on the road than the one Prince has.

& IMO in 2015 he does.. 100%.

What I don't understand is that fans can't accept that these two musicians have two totally different career trajectories and two different musical scopes. Prince can assemble a band like the one you described in a heartbeat, but that's besides the point. What D does is independent of Prince and vice versa and that's the way it should be. The Vanguard is a tight soul band and D's is a soul musician to the core, so he should have a band with tight and funky chops. I think the intention of 3RDEYEGIRL is a female rock trio that plays loose and intense. This is not a contest on which artist has the "funkier" band.

Both fans sort of live in the past...

If Prince did what D'Angleo is doing now, he'd be even more criticized for following him--So, he's staying with 3EG, and not doing another "NPG Jam of The Year/Musicology/NewPowerSoul" type of setlist, and tour right now..

Prince probably knew what D'Angelo was doing a couple of Summers ago (maybe due to hiring the same musicians. D'Angelo probably told him himself)...So, I can understand, why change-it-up know with so many folks waiting for him to copy... If anything, he won't change the his current band, sound-genres, setlist, look, or anything now...

If some folks are looking for him to freak at what D is doing, and do something similar, they will be disappointed...Maybe for a few years.. I think of a lot of the poking at Prince pride by some here...Seems like its based on some sort of bitterness towards him... A lot may be really based on a genuine dislike fo what he is doing now to, but...

I get your point. I see it as well................but I like it.

Me too! I looove the long funk grooves he lays on us. That is one thing I miss a little from Prince these days, not that he ain't funky, but he needs to find that funky groove and go wild with. Like White girls-wild funk jam style.
