Beck Kicks Ass / Kanye's a Fool!

"Kanye West told the assembled interviewers:

"Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce.

and at this point, we tired of it."

Whatever, annoying Kanye... lol

Kanye West Ripped by Garbage’s Shirley Manson in Open Letter

Kanye West Ripped by Garbage’s Shirley Manson in Open Letter

Kanye West’s antics at the Grammys didn’t exactly sit well with the Internet. Now musicians are starting to speak out against the rapper, who ridiculed Beck for winning album of the year on Sunday night instead of Beyonce. Now, Garbage lead singer Shirley Manson has posted an open letter to Kanye, who she called a “complete tw*t,” on her Facebook page.

Read the full letter below:

Dear Kanye West,

It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry.

You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK.

You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt.

In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own.

Grow up and stop throwing your toys around.

You are making yourself look like a complete twat.

Ps.I am pretty certain Beyonce doesn’t need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she’s got everything covered perfectly well on her own.

Kanye West, Not Beyonce, Was the Biggest Loser at the Grammys

It doesn't really matter which album is better as that is merely subjective, it is all about the indecency to steal someone elses moment in the spotlight receiving his award. Beck has been going for over 20 years now and is a respectable artist in his own right, the lack of indecency shown by mr. West is appalling

Despicable behaviour by one of the most annoying popstars of our time, mister Kanye West, who has even done it before with that poor little Taylor Swift. That guy is such a dick...

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

it's getting to the point where these award shows are gonna have to have security officers near the stage,to keep Kanye away from the award winners lol This is beyond ridiculous.

http://www.thefader.com/2015/02/09/all-the-times-kanye-west-gave-his-own-awards-to-someone-else

Kanye has a history of giving away his own awards to people he felt were more deserving.

.

The grammy's are anything but democratic-It is an award decided on by an exclusive group of people within the recording music industry - void of the consumer opinion, void of anyones opinion who is deemed unworthy.

The industry is a microcosm of the wider society so it is not suprising to see things like racial preference or indentity politics manifest themselves sub-conciously in the choices people make in voting.

The grammy's are voted for by people in the industry- it is meant to reflect artistry and not comercial success.

Some may argue that Beck was more deserving than Beyonce.

Some may counter that argument and say that the voters due to a cultural disconnect were unable to see Beyonce's musical merits.

So by that measuring standard- what is really the best? It's an opinion - Just like Kanye's.

.

So we have issues of racism playing out at the grammy's..

We also had issues of class within this this micrososm of society playing out when Beyonce was allowed to take to the stage and performed Ledisi's song from the movie Selma on stage.

While reports are that Ledisi was never actually tapped to perform the song. i.e Beyonce didn't ask to replace Ledisi and Ledisi herself has said it was not 'her' song to claim ownership and believed Beyonce had every right to perform it.

The grammy committee however did not object to this no matter how artisically unethical this may have been. Ledisi didnt get her shine either.

Racism and Class issues have always been an issue for the grammy's and any institution that is beholden to class and commerce is never going to be a true reflection of artistic greatness.

Shirley Manson is tripping.

Kanye was protesting the racial element that play into the grammy's when choosing winners- so for her to talk down to him and call him a 'savage' for that opinion is problematic.

Of course the Grammys are racist. These award shows were made for and by White people. Meant for White people. Kanye, Beyonce and Jay-z want so badly to be accepted by these White award shows while IGNORING Black award shows because they don't think those awards have as much merit as the White ones. So I really can't weep for Kanye crying about how racist the Grammys are when he, Beyonce and Jay-z turn their backs on people who would gladly recognize their talent. They are the kind of Black artists that don't feel like they've made it or that their work is good enough until White people tell them so and award them for it.

Have you ever seen Kanye angry that he lost out to someone for winning a BET, Soul Train, Hip-Hop Source award over him? Have you ever seen him say that Beyonce deserves such awards if someone won them over her too? No and he won't because in Kanye's eyes only the Grammy's, VMAs and AMAs matter. Wonder why?

lol lol That's Zack Wylde, played with Ozzy for a long time, has his own band called Black Label Society (he's wearing one of their shirts). He's metal, for sure, but he's not as mean as he looks in that picture lol

He can do this though, so maybe Kanye should still be scared....

Lets remove all the hot button issues. Remove all aspect of race from the equation, which is admittedly a huge, many facetted part of this conversation. Remove all discussion of award, from any voting body, and any debate of their merit and/or importance. Remove Mr. West's hugely gigantic ego and all talk of whether or not it's part of how he got to where he is, when and where it was cultivated, and whether or not that's REALLY him. Lets even disgregard everything he's done and said in the past, just pretend none of it ever happened. Even doing all that....

This was a dick move. It was incredibly rude and disrespectful. Honestly, I don't think it can be said much clearer than Shirly Manson said it (which makes me love her even more.

And look, I've been a Kanye defender for a long time. I like that he tries to elevate hip-hop to a different place, all good art should do that. I like that he speaks his mind and has opinions that people don't always agree with. He lives in America and should be able to say whatever he wants. The only person he's going to harm in the long run with his rants is himself, so have at it.

But this one, nah, this one he got wrong.

First of all, Beck's album is pretty fucking great, and maybe the voters actually liked it more than Beyonce's album (and lets keep in mind that it only takes one vote more than Beyonce got - we don't know how many votes each album got). Second, Beck has been making great albums for a long ass time and has always embraced other genres and styles. Further, he speaks with great kindness and intelligence about other artists and their music. His words in response to Kanye after the Grammys show just that. Beck is also VERY MUCH loved within the music community. Kanye's disrespect here was not only uncalled for and misplaced, but also made him look like a fool.

Nah, this was a dick move, and there's no level on which I can defend it. Just, like, grow the fuck up Kanye.

She didn't call him a savage, she said he savagely went after Beck. Keep stirring that race pot, though. Let me see if I can find a confederate flag to photoshop into that Zakk Wylde picture for you (who is from fucking New Jersey and has never done or said a single fucking thing related to race that I know of, and I've been following him for over 25 years). Way judge a book by its cover and make a racist remark! Oh wait, that's what you accuse white people of doing, isn't it? I am so fucking tired of this bullshit double standard.

And I have pointed out the elitism aspect there with the Ledisi incident.

Beyonce's success wether she realizes it or not in the context of grammy's and the industry at large is tokenism.

And if you want to get real about it, ALL THESE PEOPLE WON GRAMMYS THIS YEAR! Kendrick Lamar (3), Pharrell (3), Beyonce (3), Toni Braxton & Babyface, Robert Glasper Experiment feat. Malcolm Jamal Warner & Lalah Hathaway, Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer & Judith Hill, Dianne Reeves, Erica Campbell, Lecrae, Smokie Norful & Aaron W. Lindsey, John Coltrane, Billy Childs, Angelique Kidjo, Ziggy Marley

Something I doubt Kanye, or very many other people for that matter, have bothered to investigate before blurting out some uninformed comment about how race is behind this. It's cool though, just keep perpetuating hate, it's gotten us all so far, right? Does racism exist in our country? Yes. Is it a HUGE problem that is far from being solved? Yes. Is it behind every little thing that doesn't go the way someone wants when more than one race is involved? No, it isn't.

Make up you mind, you can't have it both ways.

The grammys love Beyonce more than Ledisi but they love Beck more than Beyonce = a microcosm of society - its quite simple and not contradictory at all.

class and race both at play.

.

You dont see Race and Class to be both symptoms of the same greater issue?

.

And just like the revolution those awards will not be televised.

The grammys are all about the Best New Artist, Record and Album of the year- so all the artist are after those awards to boost their sales.

The artists competing know this also so they could careless about the sub-categories.

The whole thing is just an elitist fighting match but it lends itself greatly to pointing out how society works with issues of racism and class at play in this microcosm.

What kind of fucking nerve does Beck have, with his mutiple instrumental skills, writing skills and producing skills, disrespecting real artists like Beyonce and Kanye West with their army of producers and writers and who can't do shit themselves, right?

Neversin.

Are u saying that art has more merit if it is produced solitarily?

I have enjoyed the works of artists who work in groups and well as those who prefer to work alone.

Kanye is a hip hop artist, the culture has always supported and promoted a collective creative process.

It's that collective element and the coming together of different ideas and perspectives into one finished piece that gives hip hop its unique flavour.
