Nothern Soul I watched the movie Northern Soul last night. I thought it was awesome, partly because I’m nostalgic for the North of England, where I’m from, and because it was a grass roots, underground music scene with an huge emphasis on digging for vinyl. .
There's the recent BBC doco too...

i agree with you that its a very good film,i was around at the time and i was aware of northern soul but i was more into rock music at the time, northern soul was a bit of a clique, theres no way i would have worn those clothes but their dance moves were pretty impressive but at the time i would have thought it was more for girls, looking at it now it looks a very exiting scene and this film captures the period perfectly.i think in a way northern soul was the forerunner of acid house. | |

That history of DJ-ing book 'Last Night a DJ Saved My Life' (by Bill Brewster) certainly calls out the Northern Soul scene as highly significant to the early days and growth of DJ culture. Acid House was the next scene that became a major thing after growing up as an underground scene (well, where I came from anyway). . My favourite from the (54-track!!) Northern Soul movie soundtrack
