Beyonce with 3 songs was just simply ridiculous. She just doen't have any soul when singing....although she can sing the soul is always missing.I really enjoyed Gaga, Ed, Annie , Jill/Janelle/Indie, and JHud.....I Loved how Janelle and Gaga seemed like they wanted to just take off and get some footwork in!Stevie closing was perfect BUT where in the world was Prince????? I was so hoping he would come out tap a foot, sing along, pluck a bass, stand alongside Stevie and bumped the FUNK factor up x's 10!!!The show was better than I thought but I agree seeing Gladys there and have her NOT sing was a bit of a let down. Stevie looks way better this year then last. I remember him him getting a bit rounder and was like I know his handlers are not blind and well???? I was going to mention the fact that Gladys Knight was actually THERE! singing in the audience but NOT On STAGE?! What kind of BS is that! She should have been up there tearing those songs apart like she still can. Major miss IMO. And I was disappointed that Prince wasn't there either... I saw Stevie last December and he sounded wonderful except for going hoarse on a couple of songs but his voice came back dramatically after that... It does look like he dropped some weight since then and looks younger for it--but then we all do when we get older. After a few days of watching/listening... It was cool to see Ed Sheeran do a great job. Gary Clark Jr. could have brought the house down on his own. Annie Lennox and Tony Bennett did great renditions. I thought John Legend did a great job, if only for the fact the song he covered was not a well-known track. Janelle Monae/India.Arie/Jill Scott was a letdown. Jill Scott did a great version of 'Don't Know Why I Love You' at BETs walk Of Fame tribute to Stevie in 2002. India.Arie has toured with Stevie and did a great version of Summer Soft during his Gershwin Prize concert in 2009. But they just didn't do that song (As) much justice. Overall, the show was a letdown. The two shows I just mentioned previously were quite better by a wide margin. But it's always great to see Stevie play. Hard to believe he's only put out two albums in twenty years. Hoping that this tribute show and his highly-praised and well-promoted tour nudge him into releasing his album(s) finally. | |
