Who still cares about Maxwell's SUMMERS anyway?

Keep teasing...Summer 2013, Valentine's Day 2014, Winter 2015, Autumn 2050. I no longer care.

I would think 90% of his fan base don't give a shit about message board comments. I'm tired of waiting too, but I know it will sound good when it finally comes out.

I'm afraid no one cared about Maxwell at this point. I hate to say it... but he doesn't have that hpster cred D'Angelo or Erykah Badu have. So when D or Erykah release a new album. The hipsters will go crazy for it. And some people in the mainstream. But Maxwell? ship has sailed, docked, and cleared out the dining hall.

I think Maxwell appeals to a market that will always support an artist like him.

Maxwell is no marvin Gaye. At this point he's not even Bobby Brown standard. lol

Agreed, but I do agree with the previous poster as well; Maxwell's last album did great both critically and commercially, and a lot of people just enjoy music casually, even those with a selection of favorite artists (such as Maxwell and D'Angelo).

I eagerly purchased all of his albums' and have attended several live shows. However, I don't have an active interest in Summer's nor do I anticipate purchasing it whenever the record comes out. For me, his ship has sailed.

1. I did not think the Black was very good, and probably haven't listened to it since 2010. I also think his voice has decined significantly.

2. Further, I have moved on too much in my adulthood to actively care about his album/activities. Good records come out every month, from artists all over the world. There is no need to sit breathlessly waiting for a record from anyone. Life goes on.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but hasn't he already missed the momentum and hot iron? Hasn't it been 7 years now since his last album?

Exactly. People are underestimating his female fan base.

+1.

Singing "This Woman's Work" live over the years has finally taken its toll on his vocal cords.

I agree, and I don't think this is question with an "either/or" answer. I there is a "both/and" answer.

I have both . . . gotten so frustrated with Maxwell's delayed "trilogy" installments that I take any news about him worth a grain of salt and decline to buy tickets to any show . . .

And would welcome a new Maxwell effort if and when it's released.

Up until December 15, 2014, the same people who were saying the same things about D'Angelo (I was one of them) have Black Messiah in constant rotation today. It'll happen with Maxwell too. Remember when he dropped his last effort? This board was a de facto Maxwell.org board for a month.

I don't think it's so much Maxwell, as it is his label. I think they keep pushin' it back or sumpthin' 4 some unknown reason(s.)

Sadly, the whole idea of a trilogy is now dead. If there was 2b a trilogy project, all components of said trilogy should have happened by now. Additionally, the titles don't really work cohesively enough. I'm a grammarian so "Black Summers' Night" is incorrect. It should have been "Black Summers' NIGHTS."

To then call the 2nd installment "Summers' " asks the question "Summers' WHATS?," where possession is indicated. And then "Night," honestly COULD work, but whatever. I miss his "Urban Hang," "Embrya" and "Now" sounds (the CLASSIC Maxwell sound) and quite honestly, I absolutely HATED "Black Summers' Night." The songs just weren't up 2 par 4 me and there was the presence of a new sound contained within that didn't hit me in the right places. Time will tell and hopefully, he'll shake that whole trilogy idea and come back good and HARD. The brutha has a voice 4 DAZE!!! smile

I agree...maybe he should drop the trilogy concept and just release a solid,13-track album. These days, people don't really appreciate or understand concept albums anyway.

I never really believed he was going to ho through with the Trilogy thing. It would have been better if he had actually recorded the entire thing and released it as a three disc set like Prince's Emancipation. I think now he should just abandon that idea and just drop a good album.
