Janet = Bobby Brown or MC Hammer or Chris Brown
HOT as hell for a minute, then faded fast. Their level of HOTNESS was so high, people can't help but to think that they were better than they were. This is Lady GaGa territory.
The facts are that none of them bring much to the table.

"hot as hell for a minute, then faded fast".....
another example why Janet is gone and never coming back.....
Janet Jackson started entertaining at 7 years of age, even younger than her brother Michael
her first album was released in 1982 and her last album that was standard was what....2004
that's 22 years on the charts but she faded fast?.........
nobody created slow jams as a female entertainer the way Janet Jackson did
Janet Jackson could do a concert right now and the show will last over 3 hours because she has over 2 decades of music in her discography she can perform on the spot, including her first major hit YOUNG LOVE and SAY YOU DO (produced by Rene Moore and Angela Winbush)
when she did her ALL FOR YOU tour in my town in 2002, her show started at 8pm and didn't finish up until around 11:15pm....over 3 hours of performing.....now who else on the scene right now can do that?

You Stans are funny. The general public starts Janet's career at Control and basically ends with Rhythm Nation. After that, a few hit singles only. Nothing special. She was cute as hell though. How is it that her career ended at Rhythm Nation when RN wasn't even her most successful album? Maybe you should go do some research. And by the way when was the last time Prince had a major hit? What was it 2 decades ago? You know some folks would classify that as being a fad too. BlackCat1985

You're a troll. Janet received her highest album sales after Rhythm Nation with the janet. album. The Velvet Rope sold 10 million and All For You gave her highest first week sales of her career and a 7-week #1. That was 15 years after Control. That's a #1 in 3 separate decades. That's longevity. So the fact that you would compare her career to Bobby Brown who was only relevant for 3 years makes no sense. Prince is the one who plateaued with Purple Rain and couldn't get an album past double platinum afterward. And Janet's music career started in 1982 rather she was successful or not that's when it began. If it's all about commercial success than we should start Prince's career at 1999 right? Because his first 4 albums were commercial flops. In fact, his debut did worse than Janet's so that one shouldn't even exist right?

1986 until 2002. That's a pretty long minute, if you ask me. And even after that she did well enough for someone who's supposedly not hot anymore.

why would a thread that says 'janet jackson's music' attract so much hate and negativity?i see people bringing up her brother, somebody quoted prince...what da hell does this have to do with her music. seems like it just kills some people that janet broke out from a super successful family and became a great pop music star in her own right while forming one of the most successful artist/producers teams of all time, oh well get over it.

From Control in 1986 to the end of the All For You tour in 2002 was her big period of popularity. Most Janet fans you see on the internet are 28 and up because All For You was the last time many new fans were created with the hot album, singles, and tour (including the HBO broadcast which saw new fans on the message boards).

Yeah! I miss the old MTV, VH-1, and especially BET. I remember whenever one of the major artist(Janet, Mj, Madonna) would come out with a record they would go all out. Now they are all reduced to showing nothing but reality TV. Janet and Bill Bellamy had great chemistry together. You could tell they enjoyed each other. BlackCat1985

Michael Jackson was not a genius. He was an amazing popstar, as was Janet.
They had varying degrees of success over different time periods, but ultimately both were monumentally successful and both made lasting impacts in pop/R&B/Dance music. * * *

Michael Jackson sang better at 10 years old than singers four times his age.
He revolutionised the music industry and set standards for live shows never before seen or matched since.
He was a genius in every sense of the word.

Every level headed person (lol, which may discount many on this thread) puts Prince in the GOAT conversation. Janet, way seperately, was a cute girl who sang a bit and danced her ass off. Nothing more. She didn't write, didn't play and depended on others to have her biggest hits. Did she even choreograph her own moves???

That is some GOOD shit you're smoking . Hot as hell and then faded fast would be an appropriate description for several acts that became big in the '80s, but Janet Jackson is certainly not one of them. She blew up in 1986 and her reign lasted until at least 2002, and even then, she is regarded as one of the architects of the blueprint followed by the modern-day dance pop diva, so to even give her time as a force in the music industry a timeline is ridiculous, because her influence is still all over pop music today. You have got to be joking. I'm going just chalk you up as someone who is either extremely young or woefully uninformed. In case it's the latter, let me give you a bit of info...
Janet has amassed, thus far, a total of 10 hot 100 #1 hit singles and a slew of top 10s. She has more R&B #1 singles than any other female artist, save Aretha Franklin (she even has more R&B #1s than MJ, but, I digress...). When RN 1814 was all said and done, she'd accumulated five Hot 100 #1s (four from that album and "When I Think of You" from CONTROL), and over the next decade she would accumulate five more. Her longest-running #1 wouldn't even happen until 1993, with "That's the Way Love Goes", and even still, eight years later she would nab her second-longest-running #1 with 2001's "All For You"--the longest-running #1 single of 2001. Here is a general rundown of Janet's post-RN chart stats...
1993
That's The Way Love Goes #1 Hot 100 (spent 8 weeks atop the Hot 100 chart, making Janet the Jackson family act with the longest-running #1 song) If #4 Hot 100 Again #1 Hot 100 (Oscar-nominated) Because of Love #10 Hot 100 Any Time, Any Place #2 Hot 100 (still consistently sampled by various artists) You Want This #8 Hot 100
1995
Runaway #3 Hot 100 ("Runaway" made Janet the first female artist in Billboard's history to debut in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, entering at number six in September 1995)
1997
Together Again #1 Hot 100 (Janet' biggest international hit to date, peaking in the top 5 in most countries) I Get Lonely #3 Hot 100 (Janet's eighteenth consecutive top ten hit on the Hot 100, setting a record for her as the only female artist to achieve that feat, surpassed only by Elvis Presley and The Beatles)
2000
Doesn't Really Matter #1 Hot 100 (made Janet the first artist to achieve a #1 in the '80s, '90s and 2000s)
2001
All For You #1 Hot 100 (longest-running #1 single of 2001; set a radio record that lasted a decade before finally being broken by Lady Gaga's "Born This Way") Someone To Call My Lover #3 Hot 100 2008 Feedback #19 Hot 100 (despite lackluster support from Island Def Jam and little radio airplay stemming from her blacklisting, the first single from DISCIPLINE still managed to crack the top 20, becoming Janet's 29th single to do so)
R&B #1s post-RN 1814 The Best Things In Life Are Free (duet w/Luther Vandross) That's the Way Love Goes Any Time, Any Place I Get Lonely What's It Gonne Be (duet w/Busta Rhymes) All For You Call on Me
Dance Chart #1s post-RN 1814 That's the Way Love Goes If Together Again Go Deep All For You Someone to Call My Lover All Nite (Don't Stop) Feedback Make Me
So, as you can see, "a few hits only" after RN 1814 would be an incorrect assessment.

Lol @ the person who said that Beyonce is more talented and beautiful than Janet.
First of all, I don't know what "beauty" has to do with talent, but whatever. That's subjective anyway. I happen to think Janet is FARRR more beautiful than Beyonce. I mean, Bey, is just your average hood chick from up the block. Janet has that beautiful and distinctive Jackson look!
Secondly, the only talent that Beyonce has over Janet is singing. Bey may be able to sing better, but there is NOTHING distinctive about her voice. Plenty of girls sound like Beyonce. Janet has among the most sensual and distinctive voices that I have heard in music and she uses it very well and to her most creative abilities. I would argue that Janet's voice enhances the music, NOT the other way around. I mean, I can't imagine anyone singing to the beats of Janet's songs other than Janet herself (and her brother Michael, who occasionally sound like one another at times).
Other than that, Beyonce NOR Solange are not more talented BY ANY means than Janet, whatsoever. Anyone who claims otherwise, is straight hating or genuinely delusional. I mean, really, the Knowles sisters having more talent than Janet??!!
You people have lost y'alls damn minds. That's definitely one of the most ridiculous claims I've ever heard on my short time on the org thus far.
