Just got the hard CD copy, hell yeah! If you've got funk, you've got style.

Agreed would have been nicer maybe as a trifold digipack, with some of the psychedelic ramblings of past liner notes. I would have even paid extra for nicer packaging. How cool would it have been for them to serve up some new trippy funklore tales for the new millennium? What a missed opportunity. Maybe they could have even put a bonus chapter or story not in Clinton's new book in the CD notes. How ironic that the longest P-Funk release ever has perhaps the least amount of art and stories to look at during the 3 1/2 hours of jammies?
And to All, a Supremely Funky New Year! If you've got funk, you've got style.

And to All, a Supremely Funky New Year! Yes. I saw the package in Barnes & Nobles earlier and I had to say it was a pretty shoddy presentation. His memoirs were a high quality affair. But this cd looks like a garage type operation put it together. The irony is of course, George Clinton should be one of the wealthiest musicians to ever do it. The catalog is worth hundreds of millions, with what the sampling and Madison Ave has done with the grooves.

Per the liner notes, 5 tracks are "Taken from the original motion picture, Dope Dogs The Movie". Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

I saw that, too, when I was reading the liner notes. I found a reference that might be to "Dope Dogs: The Movie" in this interview with George Clinton in Culture Magazine from 2012: https://www.google.com/ur...Los2MxqSVA
. So getting back to the music, what have you been working on in the studio? [Edited 12/29/14 23:19pm] "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Did not realize until finally getting the CD notes that Sly Stone is really all over this thing. Not sure if that is a good thing or not at this point, but interesting nonetheless. Also notice all the P-Funk alum mentioned in the special thanks. Can't help but wonder why more of them don't appear on this sprawling set, could it only be money? Maybe they just did not want to travel to Tallahassee on their own dime? Too bad but glad there are as many alum appearances as there are on the set anyway. Bedrosian is like the MVP of the project. If you've got funk, you've got style.

I love the way he's coloring In da Kar on synths. His daughter Novena Carmel is prominent in the mix too as writer. Word is there's plenty of uncredited musicians on the set too. I know I said earlier the physical product was a cheap presentation. Then I thought about it. What other black act from the 1970's is financing the recording and distribution of a 3 disc set?

I don't think Novena Carmel actually wrote anything; those are really Sly Stone's credits. She apparently manages his business, like Grace Cook for Eddie Hazel.

Interesting info for sure. I agree about Danny Bedrosian being the all star of the record. PF has always fielded an incredible array of keys talent. Bernie, Amp, Razor, Junie. Even second stringers like Gary Hudge and Jerome Rogers were no joke. Bedrosian continues the legacy, a total bad azz with classical grounding.

I believe Novena Carmel is Sly's daughter.

Is she the one who appeared on the Small Talk album cover in 1974? If so, cool that she turned out musical. Shame it looks like Prince will not produce any offspring, and that maybe he is unable to. If you've got funk, you've got style.

I love the Bedrosian stuff too ... Shame the album isn't a little bit more focused ... I am curious/looking forward to the Parliament album, that is supposed to follow this one very soon. This Funkadelic album feels like wrapping up 33 years unfinished business and setting up the next phase. A reboot like America Eats Its Young. btw, this is also Novena Carmel: https://www.youtube.com/w...C31wYKZ-5U

I don't think he is going anywhere. There are so many next-generation p-funk side projects going on with constantly changing line-ups, often including "original" members. Here is a full concert with Garrett Shider and I think also Rico Lewis, another GC grandson (?): https://www.youtube.com/w...zdL0bXbElU A lot of these musicians will eventually show up on the mothership - they're not all equally great to be honest, but GC could use a new horn section for example...

Thanks for that link. I've been wanting to peep Rico's thang for some time but somn always comes up. Within the P-Funk itself, there are several other "mini" camps all doing there own thangs putting out individual projects. Clip/420/Drugs, Ligedelic/Naked Funk, Children of Production, Danny's Boz Funk crew, and GC/TreyLewd which seems to be where most of the new album comes from. [Edited 1/2/15 7:36am]

As for the horns Greg Boyer is sorely missed but Bennie and lil Greg are still handling their bizzness. Have you heard The Real Brass Taxx Horns album? PF Horns rank right up there with the Horny Horns as the most blowingest of all time. In fact, Fred Wesley once told Boyer he felt PF Horns had the edge as far as precision was concerned. I hope they appear on the Parliament album. [Edited 1/2/15 7:36am]

I hope so too. They were brilliant in the (early) 1990s. Yes, Greg Boyer is sorely missed.
But on videos of recent shows they look bored and tired/unhealthy. Understandable probably, but I also wonder how motivated/involved they still are.

I've listened to this for a month now -- IMHO hands down best release of the year. I don't find it unfocused. I am not annoyed by the rapping. I love the new editions to the p-funk family. I love how George has orchestrated this masterpiece. I love Sly's contribution throughout -- and am so happy that he's been salvaged. I just love this through and through!
