Dude....

Follow the link on reply 107.

I'm not talking aout the Jesse track. I'm talking about the Ronson track.

You quoted the post where me and phunkdaddy were talking about Jesse's track on FB though.

Phunkdaddy and Identity were saying they prefer Jesse's funk to Ronson and Bruno's funk, so I asked for a link to Jesse's track.

We knew that the song is Ronson feat. Bruno.

So here is my question: If the original "Uptown Funk" track is a Ronson joint, why are folks giving Mars the credit 4 making a funk track? Did I miss something?

The OP is to blame for the misleading thread title. It clearly states Mark Ronson but I guess shawy89 is a Bruno stan. shrug

I read that some guys from Dap Kings and Budos band are also on the track and I love those dudes too.

Here's the article from Billboard....

Bruno is also credited as a co-writer on the song.

I didn't see anything about a Minneapolis influence in the Billboard article though.

Yes "Uptown Funk" is a Mark Ronson track featuring Bruno Mars. This is one of several "featuring guest artists" songs that will be on his upcoming album.

As babynoz mention Bruno co-wrote the song along with co-producing it. He did the lead vocals on it and played some of the instruments. Because he is the featured lead vocal and that he had a lot of input in this song is probably why many think of this as Bruno's song. Same thing happens with the song "Valerie" that Amy Winehouse recorded. A lot of ppl think of it as an Amy Winehouse song when it's actually Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse.

You guys got this all wrong. Uptown Funk is about Mark and Bruno gathering all those 70's funky compositions into one song (You may also call it "clichés" but whatever... Every funk song has AT LEAST two funk clichés (horn sections, and all-band vocals))... Just like Locked Out of Heaven that NEVER sounded like any song by The Police, (It has a different guitar line, different bassline... Never knew why people kept saying that it's a rip off - The latter is a song that borrows an indentical sound, like the same exact or near-exact notes) but it rather souded LIKE The Police cause that was their objectif - -To simulate an old school song by creating a similar vibe, adding contemporary stuff here and there- (mostly electronic for Mark since he's a DJ)). Point is, you guys never had, don't have and will never have to ARGUE about originality.. Cause there WAS no originality, even Prince who's one of the most near-original funk masters always wanted to create something that can sound like something he had been a fan of when he was young.. It's obvious when you admit it, and while we CAN always argue about how cliché or familiar a certain song sounds like, how about WE THINK of the time that it came out in? Uptown Funk released in 2014 is like a Robert Johnson guitar-driven blues-y song released in the 80's... It's risqué commercially while the whole argue-about-how-original-it-is thing just wouldn't matter.

So this is also remenscint of No Parking on the Dance Floor and So Ruff So Tuff. That rhytm guitar scratch was not exclusive to Prince. Hardly a simple Prince ripoff. Horns are better than the ones Prince is using my a mile - more EWF than NPG. Some drum beats recall Burn Rubber, "sayyy what" stright out of Instant Funk's Got My Mind Made Up.
I think some of you dont listen to anything Prince isn't involved in.

Yeah, I don't know where people are getting the Prince comparisons from. It sounds like the early 80s funk by artists like Bar-Kays, Midnight Star, and Cameo. It's an untapped era of music so its interesting to see these guys borrow from that. It would have been better if they added something new in terms of music or production to create a new sound.

At 0:58 there's that familiar electronic thingy they do always... but more not-so-watered-down or some shit.. It's Mark's trademark production style, you can also hear it in LOOH.

A sampling of rave reviews over the Uptown Funk video

Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars Strut Through Retro 'Uptown Funk' Video

Duo get perms, shoeshines in goofy clip for groove-heavy collaborative single

Earlier this month, Grammy-winning producer Mark Ronson released "Uptown Funk," a joyous, collaborative single with Bruno Mars. Now the duo have paired that track's sinewy slap-bass and galactic synths with an equally retro music video, which finds the two musicians decked out in late Seventies attire as they dance along a city street.

Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson Are Impossibly Cool in 'Uptown Funk' Video

f you got through last week without listening to Mark Ronson's track with Bruno Mars, the throwback jam "Uptown Funk," you need to change that right now. It's easily one of the most joyous songs released in 2014, and now, an equally ebullient music video for the track is here.

Wearing shades and a salmon-colored blazer, Mars, Ronson and a team of friends/bandmates/backup dancers prowl around city streets grooving to the Prince-y, synth-y funk jam.

Shuffling down the sidewalk, getting shoe shines -- the duo looks impossibly cool doing everything in this clip. Hell, they even make putting their hair in curlers look like the hot thing to do.

Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars - "Uptown Funk" [Music Video Premiere!]

If you haven’t got into this song yet, watch the music video now because it’ll make you a fan instantly! Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars premiered on Monday morning (Nov. 17) the music video for “Uptown Funk”. The infectious funky tune is the lead single from Englishman Mark’s forthcoming fourth studio album “Uptown Special”....“Uptown Funk” is such a great retro track, with both outstanding production and vocals. Mark knows, though, all the praise and glory is going to fall on Bruno in the end…but I guess as long as he gets his royalties pay-check I’m sure he’ll be fine.

Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson Go to Funkytown in "Uptown Funk" Video

Here's something to get you moving this Monday: Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson have shared the video for their new collaboration single "Uptown Funk" which takes place in a place we're deeming Funkytown, U.S.A....
Discussion has begun about whether "Uptown Funk" is ...f the year, and with this feel-good, fun visual to accompany it, we can't imagine that the excitement for the track will die down anytime soon.

Bruno Mars Just Released the Feel-Good Music Video of the Year

The video for Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk" is the single most fun, funky and defiantly old-school thing of 2014.

Complete with a punchy horn section, numerous catchy vocal hooks, a tight slap bass line and Mars' vibrant voice, the song always had a good groove to it. But the video turns all of that to 11. It's easily the most joyous music video of 2014.

Mars' dancing (or walking) has never been more infectious. He struts through New York in his pink jacket and white fedora. He and his company of dancers groove through classic New York scenes. They chill on townhouse stoops, get their shoes shined and take the stage in a dimly lit blues club to bring it all home.

Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Funk' video gets a perm, is oh so fly

We already knew Bruno Mars has the spirit of cool about him. Now, in his and Mark Ronson's throwback tune "Uptown Funk," he takes that cool, gives it a perm and wraps it in a bandana, threw a flashy pink jacket on top of it and forced us to understand this "cool" of which he speaks.

"Uptown Funk" is the lead single off of Ronson's forthcoming album "Uptown Special," and with the use of as many Uptowns, you may get a sense of the brand of retro he's pushing. Mars is a genuine singing beast on this sure-fire hit, though we also appreciate how he's just an eensy bit effeminate and a bucket load of sassy in this video clip.

Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars Are Totally Suave In Their “Uptown Funk” Video: Watch

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars amp up your Monday morning with their fun-filled video for “Uptown Funk.” It has a smooth ’80s throwback vibe, as the “Gorilla” crooner and the UK musician don Miami Vice-inspired suits and charm the camera lens with their confident attitudes. Along with the Hooligans, they take over the city streets with dancing, perform at an underground club and even get their hair permed!

Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson Take 'Uptown Funk' to The Streets

This is that ice cold!

Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson take their single "Uptown Funk" to the streets in the throwback music video, which is inspired by 80s styles from cities like Harlem, New York.

If any artist can sell that classic vibe, it’s Bruno Mars. In the clip, the singer-songwriter and his Hooligans crew look the part as they move and groove to that flashy, funk sounds.

9 Times Mark Ronson And Bruno Mars’ Whole Squad Looked Fresh To Death

I am, of course, talking about the "Uptown Funk" video, which is death by freshness.

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars“Uptown Funk” video just dropped, and every scene is a master class in the whole squad’s ability to keep it fresh to death as the soul train leaves the station and heads uptown and back in time.
