The blues and rock singer died in his Colorado home, his management staff confirmed. Cocker, a British-born musician who rose to fame in the 1960s, was known for his cover of The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends” and a duet with Jennifer Warnes for the movie An Officer and a Gentleman called “Up Where We Belong,” for which he received a Grammy in 1983. His agent Barrie Marshall said the singer was “simply unique,” the BBC reports. “It will be impossible to fill the space he leaves in our hearts.” In all, Cocker produced 40 albums throughout his career. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

They go one after the other... JJ Cale, Lou Reed, Jack Bruce and now Joe... Must be getting pretty crowded in rock & roll heaven... [Edited 12/22/14 13:06pm]

Obviously, everyone knows his classic over of the Beatles' "With a Little Help From My Friends" but this cover was classic as well.

Joe Cocker was the greatest white soul singer ever according to James Brown. and just maybe he'd know. I had a smile on my face all the way watching this video. Old school was just better. No arguments, just fact.

Oh my f%&$#ing god. Girl can sing, but she has an annoying tendency to seem like she is trying to compete. And she is WAY over the top sometimes. I understand she is a legend and all that. But seriously? My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

But seriously? I don't look at it as her trying to compete, she's doing what she does best...Ms. Patti showing up and out! Lol. This isn't a bad version of them singing the song but I would have preferred he sung it himself...as you said he held his own singing with Patti, and very very few singers could/can do that with her. The other male vocalist that comes to mind in that category is Michael McDonald. But anyway, I found this performance to be quite entertaining. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

i agree. this is the first time i heard this duo version of the song. it's great! i so luved Joe Cocker for his musical courage. the man could really emit soulful honesty when he sang. seeing him along with patti and billy prestion>>>>>>CLASSIC. patti was just being patti. to me her singing voice sounds like words strung on a golden violin. she really gets into her songs with her voice, body and soul. the lady got some chops. imo she complimented joe and joe complimented her as they sang. thrilling [Edited 12/23/14 11:06am] “Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a

That performance was so Damn Entertaining way back in 1985 and it still is today...LOL....Joe said he was not expecting Patti to come out with all that Screaming and not to mention her hair almost stabbed him...LOL...His facial expressions were priceless...In 1985 Joe was already a Legend..Patti was giving standing-ovation performances cementing her Legendary status years later...Her Duet with Joe is what her Solo career needed..."major Buzz"...

That was also the same show that started a lot of controversy for Patti! After she was accused of snatching the mic from Diana Ross(who was considered royalty back then, like Beyonce is now) and outsinging her to her face. It was the talk of the watercoolers the next day.
When I saw that performance originally. That was my first introduction to Joe Cocker. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Maybe she was still upset that Cindy Birdsong left her group to join The Supremes.
