Hun, love u but I respectfully disagree with this. I am not sure why you think Miley gets a pass for her antics. She gets far more criticism than Beyonce will ever get. Hell even Lady Gaga, who( I personally think is not as sexual as Beyonce) gets way more criticism. Beyonce always gets passes for her oversexual image. It is actually always a double standard with her because people always makes it seem like she walks on water It ridiculous that its becoming a taboo to criticize anything that she does. This has nothing to do with race. Any body who is intelligent regardless of the color of their skin knows that all Beyonce is doing is capitalizing off the sex market and giving a fancy term for her brand. It is not that deep.

This doesn't make sense to me. Most female celebrities are running away from the feminist label. Popular young actress Shailene Woodley said feminism amounts to discrimination. Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Demi Moore , and Susan Sarandon have all rejected the feminist label. Roughly 38% of American women identify as feminists.

How is Beyonce embracing the feminist label going to garner her a larger audience when feminism is not that popular amongst women? Actress Emma Watson was getting a lot of accolades for declaring herself a feminist a few weeks ago. A lot of feminists were hoping this would encourage more young women to follow action. At this point this is not a bandwagon jumping move. It's actually a risky move.

It's true that many people criticized Miley for her new image and antics (and rightfully so), but just as many people came to her defense. If that's the case then where are these defenders for Beyonce or Nicki if they are all doing the same thing? They are all selling sex and sexuality. All of them. So why is it that black women in the industry get called out all these people get silent? It is about race and it always has been about race. Most women of color as seen as being 'easy' or 'available or open,' but black women, in particular, are victims of being oversexualized, especially in the United States. White women, otoh, are seen as being delicate, innocent, virginal, and prized possesions. It's something that is ingrained in American culture since the times of chattel slavery and even in Europe. That's like over 200+ years of that way of thinking and all over a sudden I am supposed to believe that 'race has nothing to do with it."

I do understand that Annie Lenox did go after Rhianna and Miley too, but that was more of being against the kind of imagery they are using to sell themselves rather than a personal attack on them. Like, why does Annie get to chose who is a proper feminist and who is not? It's like when white feminists criticize Muslim feminists. While I may not always agree with everything Beyonce does as she is just selling sexuality, but at the same time her biggest demographic are women rather than straight cis men. That has to be mean something. To me, it means that she is catering to the female gaze and to females in general. They are the ones consuming. Maybe not Annie so much, but they are. Not saying it's right or wrong, but I think it's something that can't be ignored.

I've noticed for years that Janelle Monae does wear a variety of fashion styles when she's not "on the clock", dresses and hairstyles ranging from loose fros to slick chignons like you see here. I'm not sure if it means she will ditch her suits for her stage persona, though (at least maybe not any time soon?)
