So... the VMAs are tonight.

Here's the nominees:

http://www.mtv.com/news/1870248/2014-video-music-awards-nominations-full-list/

Eh. I guess it's better than last year though that's not saying much to begin with. May tune in if I'm bored.

One thing I noticed about this list are the amount of veteran stars taking up the nomination spots. Man music needs new blood...

Well, going by the scheduled performers I think it's gonna be an all right show. I'm particularly looking forward to Sam Smith, Usher (naturally smile ), and I'll have my eye and ear out for lil' Ariana, too. Her performances can be hit and miss with me, but in this kind of pop award show she is kind of in her element. Kind of a pity that apparently she won't be performing 'Problem', even though Iggy is there. Also, no 'Fancy'. Charli XCX is in the pre-show with 'Boom Clap', which is a huge earworm, but I don't think that it's gonna sound spectacular live.

.

Scepticism aside, I think it's gonna be a good show.

Ariana, Bino, and maybe Usher are the only ones that interest me here and that's 3 people more than I cared about last year so I have a little inkling to check it out.

AHHH! The classic VMA threads. Where orgers go on and on about ''music was better in 1905 and Chuck Berry never fucked nobody on stage and the music was real oh yes oh god yes'' yet still watch it and talk about it for pages and pages. Despite hating the current music artists. But don't mind watching them perform, then talk about it for days. popcorn

Well, so far, Cat...I mean Ariana Grande performed, and while she is being touted as the next generation Mariah Carey, she needs to learn to use a little subtlety and nuance in her vocals. Nicki Minaj was grinding and twerking her big booty, booty! and Taylor Swift was singing badly and out of breath. rolleyes If she weren't the classic gorgeous blonde next door type, she wouldn't be half the star she is.

Glad Ed sheeran won for Sing. Such a good song. Should have been a bigger song for him.

lol lol lol lol lol Usher pretending he knows how to play bass was hilarious. It's obvious he doesn't know how to play above a first grade level. I think he might have even mimicked it -.0 what's the point?

Gotta admit. Beyonce can grate on me at times, but she turned out one hell of a performance tonight. clapping

Come to think of it, the only male performers on tonight were Sam Smith, Usher, Maroon 5 and 5 Seconds of Summer. Otherwise it was girls night out. sexy batting eyes

Jessie J: A+

Nicki Minaj: C-. She liprapped. Iggy Azelia will have a field day. Speaking of which...

Iggy Azelia: B. It was a solid performance which she isn't known for.

Rita Ora: C. Her backing vocals (probably her insurance) were way too loud.

Usher: B. Presentation was strong but to me vocals were a little off.

Taylor Swift: D-. Piss-poor vocals ruined what could've been a fun performance.

Ariana Grande: B. Still a long way from Mariah's throne. Jessie J brought out the best in her.

Sam Smith: B+. Was hoping for a surprise appearance from Mary J.

Beyonce: B-. Not a fan of drawn-out medleys. And she lip sanc about 80% of this performance.

No, this board gets on MJ for not playing instruments and some of the newer crop for not playing. Now that Usher has played his instruemnts, we can now move him above the King of Pop on all time R&B list.

I know mj was credited for instruments on his last two albums in life, and people have verified it, but he's not an instrumentalist and it's ok. Randy and Jermaine were recognized for their instrumental skills, MJ is a singer, songwriter, dancer and visonary in everything he created or collaborated on. If he plays instruments, it's probably at the basic level, not at a genius level, and I'm sure he himself would have agreed with that considering he already knew it was for the studio and not the stage.

Just saw Beyonce's performance. She did well and I really enjoyed it. I hope the album sales go up, that's awesome how she did the whole album in 20 minutes. It's amazing how she markets herself though I also really liked the content and visuals of the performance. She's a talented performer and though she did well, it doesn't compare to how she was onstage when I went to her B'Day and Sasha tours, but it was still really nice and I like how she kept it present instead of doing a medley of her older stuff, which she already did for the Superbowl.

Guess I was the only one who didn't enjoy Beyonces performance? Shit was boring (especially the ballads) and if she isn't the most overrated artist of all time, I don't know who is. Her image/brand is what drives all this hype because her music sucks
