Guess I was the only one who didn't enjoy Beyonces performance? Shit was boring (especially the ballads) and if she isn't the most overrated artist of all time, I don't know who is. Her image/brand is what drives all this hype because her music sucks

When I see her, I don't view her as the greatest of all time, and with that, I enjoy her better. I view her as someone like myself with a passion for music that looked up to the same people, is around my age, and living her dream. It was well done, but skills wise I have seen better from her though I love how she promoted the album further this way and had good concepts onstage for each song, has anyone done a whole album onstage? I can't recall but it's working. What I'm trying to say is if we keep looking for that in her or anyone, of course we're going to hate everyone, just take her for what she is.

I agree.

I didn't watch the show but tuned in to her performance on the net because it got around Jay Z called her "the greatest entertainer". I didn't believe it and wanted to see it for myself and he in fact did say that whofarted Why Beyonce would allow him to say that is beyond me but then again she probably believes she is better than MJ confused The Carters are very full of themselves

Beyonce is moderately talented but she is very overrated. There are better artists and much better performers that put on more creative shows. That performance was really "just okay" objectively speaking. Its nothing that we have not seen from her. Leotard-check, Wind blowing Machine- Check, Big Weave- Check, Sexual Dance Moves- Check. Pussy Popping- Check. Her ballads were boring. I think what turns people off when it comes to her is the fact that she is marketed as the second coming of Michael Jackson/Mozart/Jesus Christ but her performances and music does not live up to the hype.

Unfornately, I think Jay Z really believes this as well as Beyonce herself lol

I find his comments rather disrespectful to the legends that are still alive.

Prince is still living

Tina Turner is still living

Janet Jackson is still living

Madonna is still living

So according to Jay Z Beyonce is greater and has surpassed them? I use to get turned off by their narcisicism but now I just find it hilarious lol Nobody else on the planet believes that besides them and her looney stans.

I honestly think Jay was caught in the moment, when he said that. Also in his eyes - Bey might be the greatest entertainer and he is her husband. That's not strange at all. I don't think Beyoncé had nothing to do with the presentation of the award and in fact, I thought it was badly done. I think they should have had a presenter like they had with Justin Timberlake, although I think it was adorable that Blue Ivy was on stage. Beyoncé adores and respects Michael Jackson, without him there wouldn't be no Beyoncé.

Beyoncé might not be your cup of tea (the org has never been fond of her, but that's fine this is a site dedicated to Prince) but I don't think she's overrated at all, she's the best of this generation of pop acts. As for the performance last night, it was alright - not the best I've seen Beyoncé do but still far better than anything the others performers did and will ever do (I still can't believe Iggy Azalea is known, when I saw her last year with her two backup dancers - I was laughing at her; cause she was that horrible).

Her ballads are the best thing for me personally. Also, interestingly in the mid 90s - people wrote that Michael Jackson was robotic, the songs were the same (no emotion in his lyrics), lypsynching etc - not true at all of course and with that said, I would NEVER compare Beyoncé to Michael because there will never be anyone like him. I mention this because after a while, people get sick of seeing the same artists on award shows or in the press - when it has nothing to do with their artistry. I do think that Beyoncé channels Michael just like Bruno Mars, but in two different ways of course and that's why people compare her to Michael - but Beyoncé herself has never stated anything of that matter.

Anyone else notice how the bass line kept going while he stopped playing to grab the mic and sing? Or how he was in the wrong spot at 3:25 but the bass line was on time?

Beyoncé's performance is clearly pigeon-holed and well-produced to be a marketing plan, to begin a new era of whatever's music is about now (dark r&b/booty shaking and twerking). Can't y'all see that this is the new thing?? This is what this generation is about, and with Beyoncé doing all that shit her way just makes her guarantee a name in the pioneers of that type of r&b music.... The performance seemed manufactured to me big time... with a moment or two of some real passion (toward the end). I don't blame Gay z for calling Bey the greatest or whatnot, dude literally felt proud.... even if she isn't the greatest alive!! Prince is.

This is nothing compared to what will come in the future, guys like Nicki Minaj and Miley Virus are ready to go wild with their appearances on live television just to popularize some sort of a propaganda... twerking is the shit now... and the LGBT movement also has a hand in this which is okay.

What's with Usher's performance anyway? Does he always wear that white suit?? why does he pretend to dance like a robot?? I thought people are over that stuff.... and shit, bass?? Really?? I thought JT is the only one who's jealous of Bruno mars!

"Marketing" is the exact word that popped into my mind when I saw Beyonce - you got there before me Shawny smile

I like her, and I think she can sing, but what's all this "Pretty Hurts" stuff? Is it supposed to be about the huge amounts of trials and tribulations that Beyonce's hotness brings her? It's so cleverly calculated - she knows her audience is made up of teenage girls, she knows what they'll be thinking before they do, and she sings the songs that'll sell to them. It's absolutely disgusting, and a really nasty thing to do to people.

The Beautiful Ones, they hurt you every time.

I'm kinda sad.

I was bored by Beyonce's performance and that rarely happens.

It sort of started with The Superbowl performance. It was okay...

But every performance after that has been lacking.

I think it's definitely a turning point for her. Are her exciting days over already? Or is this the end of an era?

And for that I'm sad.

[Edited 8/25/14 8:40am]

Beyonces PR machine has often compared her to Michael don't be fooled by that. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion but just so you know this Prince site is not the only music forum that finds her to be overrated so it is not just "Prince fans". I know you say you are not trying to compare her to MJ but you kinda are making a comparision when you use him as an example. I am not sure why you brought up the Michael Jackson example and what exactly it was trying to justify. Were you bringing Michael up to justify Beyonce's critcism? It seemed inappropiate to me although I know it probably was not your intentions. When I define what makes a good artists, I am not looking at how well they perform because if that was the case Stevie Wonder would not be one of the greatest artists of all time lol It is nice when you have artists who can visually express their music on stage but it doesn't take away from the artistry at the end of day. Objectively, there are better singers and artists of Beyonce generation. She is not the best of the best musically or even performing wise. Of course this is my opinion and if you think otherwise you are entitled too.
