I just listened to this album recently (for the first time in years)... and I now think of it as one of Madonna's best albums. Very creative. Great arrangements. She had fun with the concept. And because most of the album does not have a "1990" musical setting to it, it holds up very well 24 years later.

It's a fun, adventurous album that gave Madonna a chance to branch out and do something different. It's a nice addition to her catalog. And it contains one of her biggest hit singles,"Vogue".I thought it was cool the way she re-invented herself into the Breathless Mahoney character for an entire album.

Second only to Like a Prayer, IMHO. Make it so, Number One...

"Now I'm Following You (Part 2" is sorta like the "Batdance" of this album

I don't listen to it often but I appreciate her trying herself out in this genre and the Dick Tracy songs showed her talent of interpretation. It does enrich her catalog.
I absolutely detest Now I'm Following You though (for the exact reason SoulAlive has mentioned ) and I cannot believe it got a spot on the Blond Ambition Tour instead of some Like A Prayer album cut...
I also prefer The Immaculate Collection/Celebration version of Vogue that has been the basis of most of its live performances.

I remember seeing the Blonde Ambition tour on Saturday,May 19,1990 in Oakland (yes,I keep my ticket stubs, lol). The I'm Breathless album was released a few days later (Tuesday,May 22,1990).Exciting times, such a fun era

It's a fun record, but nowhere near her best. I loved it as a kid and still enjoy it today, but it would be near the bottom of my Madonna list. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I enjoy most of this album, memory for me of this one is my mum bought a copt for her car and played it exclusively for months. Was very odd for me as she didn't like Madonna before or since.
I enjoyed her oscars performance of sooner or later but was bemused to see how nervous she was as I didn't have her down for someone who suffered with nerves before performaces. But I guess this one was a big deal for her.
Album much better than the film. Have you had your + signs today?

Its a bit tired to be honest. I love Hanky Panky and Vogue is epic, but the rest is dated tosh and bad filler. This thing has not dated well at all.
I remember the movie was pretty bad too, the porno version "Dick Tracer" was much better. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Any1 else JAM out to Back in Business (that intro is too sick) or He's A Man (most underrated vocals from her , like, ever) I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I really loathe this album, BUT 'Something to Remember' is one of my fave Madonna songs. This is what you want...This is what you get.

That song is a true gem, last weekend I was listening to the ballads compilation with the same name and said track stands out even there as well! I can't believe she never performed it live (alongside most of that compilation)...

A few months ago, there was a rumor that Madonna wants to make another album like this one....that she wants to get away from the dance music and focus more on ballads and show tunes.I would love another like this.Remember the slow, jazzy version of "Deeper and Deeper" that we heard on the Re-Invention Tour? How about more of that?!

yes pls!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOMETHING TO REMEMBER IS HER BEST COMPILATION - SHITS ON IC AND CELEBRATION (AND REMIXED AND REVISITED, & EVEN YOU CAN DANCE, WHICH IS THE '2ND BEST')
fuck it, i want a straight up jazzy be bop album (and tour) I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed (some) of the album. And she does sound good on "he's a man", though her vocals actually remind me of E.G Daily oddly. Also odd is how yet again how strong the Leaonard tracks are. Yet more proof to me at how well they always seemed to work together!
I actually prefer the "non film" tracks to the Sondheim ones used in the film. All 3 of his songs are kinda average. Even "sooner or later" seems to drag on abit, but I admit it is a decent torchy pop song if you like that sorta thing (I dont LOL).
"More" is catchy but sounds like some reject from "Annie". Like a few of the other songs, it's not typical of Madonna at all, but she does it with so much effort that even the failures on this record are at least interesting ones LOL.
I actually find "Now I'm following you (part 2)" kinda cute and quirky. Very dated, but both part 1 and 2 do really sound like old songs LOL and are the most faithful examples of it. If being nitpicky, "following" sounds more 20's than 30's, but it's a fun effort regardless....
Both film and album are largely forgotten (thanks Disney for burying it:-? ). I also like the album done by various artists like Take 6, Darlene Love even Ice T LOL.
Again, all the songs are meant to sound old 1930's era songs, and alot of them work surprisenly well and are, to my knowledge, all new songs.
Heres the slight but charming "Blue Night" by forgotten teen idol for 6 months, Tommy Page....

"Vogue" has an interesting story behind it.The track was originally intended to be the B-side of the "Keep It Together" single. But when Madonna presented the song to Warner Bros.,they felt that the song was too good to be a B-side.They demanded that she release it as a new single.

Song has no business on the album LOL. Luckily it's a classic (though overplayed). Even i can see they added the song to the album to boost sales and little else

Actually,I think it fits perfectly Madonna did the same thing that Donna Summer did in 1977.That year,Donna released a concept album called I Remember Yesterday. Each track represented a different time period: the title track represents the 40s,"Love's Unkind" took you back to the 50s,"Back In Love Again" sounds like the 60s Motown days, etc. But the album's final track is "I Feel Love",which gives you a taste of the future. That song is one of the very first 'techno' songs and paved the way for much of the electronic dance music you hear nowadays.
On Madonna's album,"Vogue" is the big, influential track that gives you a taste of the future. The rest of the album features Madonna looking back.On "Vogue",she is looking forward.I thought it was an intriguing way to end the album, and very similiar to what Donna Summer had done in 1977.
