Modern Hip-Hop Sucks! No good artists at al, all crap, no one is as good as 2Pac. There hasn't been a great rapper in like 40 years in the genre! This is a perfect example of the shit right here. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

. He knows, he's just taking the mickey out of folks who make such blanket generalisations as 'all hip hop today sucks'. . People were saying it in the mid '90s, when mainstream hip hop meant either real gangsta rap or fake gangsta rap, and positive rap of the Native Tongue brand was on its way out. . People were saying it in '02, when the hip-hop/R&B merger had made its completion, and it was all about thugz showing their softer side while still 'keeping it real', and were hiring Ashanti ad J-Lo to sing their hooks. . People were saying it in '08, when suddenly everyone started rapping in this slow tempo and did their own hooks with autotune. . Plenty of dope MCs and crews around throughout the past decade, and still emerging today. Just gotta make a bit of effort to dig 'em out. But that's the fun part. Good music doesn't just come rolling into our laps. . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

The Marshall Mathers LP, The Slim Shady LP and The Eminem Show are more innovative & creative albums than 2Pacalypse Now, All Eyez On Me and Me Against The World, it is true than Pac's music was instrumental in the evolution of hip hop back in the mid 90s... but Eminem set the bar too high for anyone to accomplish, his lyricicsm and music was pretty much new in every way.

With the exception of Kendrick Lamar most these people do not rap they mumble. Real rappers going back to the beginning you could understand what they were saying, most of the verses did actually rhythm. A lot of Hip-Hop today has lost the art of actually rapping and we will not even go into the lost of the D.J. Once Corporate America got a hold of Hip-Hop it was finished. Gangster Rap was really the beginning of the end.

1. Kendrick... yes 2. Joey B$... yes but needs a great producer behind him like Ken had Dre. 3. My apologies but I'm not familiar with them, I thought they were more of a production, writing team. 4. Chance.... 50/50 as I am not yet impressed. 5. Capital... Sad news that he took his own life before he ever grew into his craft, coulda shoulda but we will never know. 6. Kanye... MBDTF and Late Registration are his best so far but he may get too old and mainstream to recover his greatest moments. 7. Donald " Childish " ... 50/50 as he is a smart dude and great comedy writer and actor but I feel that he treats the rap side as just a side project to do as fun. 8. Stefan " MC Ride " .... good in character and has the scary motherfucker look but they will never be mainstream and as a fan of theirs I hope they don't get that big, they'll lose their edge.
The last two that you put here are ones I'll have to catch up on. Jeux Sans Frontiers

. They all mumble. They are incapable of enunciating and music sounds like something my Four-Year Old can come up with. It is the attack of the rhytmless and grooveless nation which is being pushed by Corporate America which had no time for real Hip-Hop so they came up with this embarrassing shit. While I like/have liked SOME Hip-Hop, I feel that the entire genre is what has contributed to much of the illiteracy of our younger generations. It's a MAJOR problem these days; young people who don't know the differences between "to" and "too" and "their" and "there."
I've always attributed this illiteracy epidemic to the Hip Hop Culture/Movement. It simply does NOT encourage literacy, spelling, punctuation, comprehension and/or appropriate usage of the English language. Sadly, it shows in the droves of kids who are graduating high school with levels of literacy that equate with those of third graders.
Although not ALL who listen to Hip Hop are illiterate by ANY means, we must question how and WHY said younger generations today seem to be expressing themselves both verbally and in writing so untelligently. Even MORE sadly, it's indicative in THEIR children whom are directly affected. Sad and needless. "Yo" is not a word and "women" is not synonymous with "bitches and ho's." Let's assume SOME degree of responsibility for what our children ingest as parts of their musical diets and support them in their academic endeavors. It's one thing to write like this between friends, but it's wholly another thing when one applies for a job or enrolls in college and presents so poorly in speaking/writing. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

So the rappers passed such students in schools? When I was going to school, they often just passed kids to the next grade, no matter how they performed or if they learned anything or not. They called it "social promotion". The schools have a quota, and if they don't meet the quota, the school can lose money or be shut down. It's not the job of music to teach anything, nor is it required to have proper English (eg. Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby, John Fogerty's Louisiana "Creole" singing style although a college student from California). That's what the school and teachers are for. There's a difference in teaching students and having them memorize stuff long enough to prepare them to take standardized tests. All schools are not equal anyway. Why do you think that rich folks send their kids to expensive private schools instead of public schools? Why are magnet and Montessori schools considered better schools? Blaming hip hop for illiteracy is like blaming heavy metal for suicides/devil worship or goth music for people shooting up schools & malls. There's always been illiterate people, long before there was hip hop and even before the recording industry existed. In India today, there are people called the Dalits, who tend to be uneducated, not because of hip hop, but because they are shunned by society in a class system. . Schools are not designed for everyone to be educated. Basically, the school is designed to see which kids work well together and weed out the "undesirables" with learning, attitude, & emotional problems who would be less likely to do well in corporate America or jobs that require high skills or thinking. Employers still need people for maids, fast food, unskilled labor, fruit pickers, etc. An "educated" person with a degree is less likely going to want to do such jobs. Capialism only works with exploitation, everyone can't be equal. They also need people for jails & prisons, in which they can be used for free labor, basically disguised slavery. They're building new prisons, but closing down schools. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Modern nearly everything sucks, especially music. And yeah, I'm not feeling most of rap music today outside of a literal handful and the occasional good track.

And if we really want to be truthful about comparing today's rappers to 2pac... don't use raps he wrote for Death Row as an "equal" comparison, because even that was a major slide morally from what he wrote earlier in the 1990s. He was very bitter after going to jail, but everyone says "oh today's rappers are just like 2pac" POST JAIL. That's fucked up.
