All Kanye West albums except Dark Fantasy.
Sign O The Times
All Radiohead albums
Channel Orange
Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band (Its in fact my third favorite Beatles album, but I can't get why its the best album of all time regarding to many critics.... Is it the new psychedelic sound? Why Chuck Berry doesn't get that when he invented the rock n roll sound?)

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

sgt pepper was a creative jump in pop music, although the standout tracks are there with filler just like any mere mortal album.

I personally think Day in the Life is one the greatest pop songs ever created, and it so stretches that idea of pop-ular.

Yeah, speaking of Nirvana, the whole thing is just over the top, the whole Kurt Cobain image and suicide just managed to keep Nirvana as a legendary band, and the song 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' a sacred song.. It's all about image in my opinion.

Nevermind just feels like another punk rock & grunge thing you'd hear once in a while, all the songs just sound like those punk songs... Kurt's voice is hugely overrated, and the guitar work is just so much overappreciated.

It was, I guess. But judging my listening to their material from one album to another chronologically, I just can't see what's changed, is it the orchestral sequences? The new weird thing John does with his voice? It was all the same with Revolver, they just added new instruments.

Day In The Life is indeed a great song about popularity, but as much as I find myself a sucker of weird, pshycedelic, dream-y and surrealistic music, A Day In the Life is just a bad stab at musical creativness, the way Paul's verse flows, the whole noise of the orchestral part, The Beatles DID thunk about something new and unique to offer, but it was damn nois-y and unbearable.

Pet Sounds.

I love the story of the album, the themes, and Wouldn't It Be Nice is one of my favorite songs of all time but, for whatever reason, I can't listen to the entire LP without hitting skip more often than not. And it's not like I haven't given it a chance to sink in or anything.

It's all just so subjective, isn't it?

Babynoz doesn't get what's all the fuss about Lovesexy and I think LS is not only the best thing Prince has ever done, I think it is in a class by itself and shouldn't even be considered in a comparison thread, not even about Prince discs!

Kinda like when Tiger Woods was at the top of his game and couldn't screw up if he tried. All the other golfers knew when they showed up for a tournement that the best they could shoot for was going to be 2nd place.

Lovesexy rules. It's like the contemporary equivalent of an exquisite Mozart symphony. One long piece from beginning to end with incredible orchestral passages equal to any Aaron Copland composition to tie together the funk 'n roll.

And the libretto! Not just mere lyrics... I could go on and on. Anna Stesia! OMG.

But Shawy89, to give you some perspective on why Sgt. Pepper gets such kudos, I'm going to guess by your photo and the 89 in your handle means you were born in '89 (or thereabouts).

SP got it's reputation for how different it was from anything that had come before at the time of it's release.

By the time that you reached the age where you were interested in learning about music the world had changed. Radio had developed many more format segments and your exposure to tons of music that came after SGTP was embedding itself in your consciousness so that when you would hear tunes from this pivotal album they just sounded like more oldies from back in the day.

What I'm trying to say is that you can't really separate the impact of this record from what was going on culturally at the time of it's release. The 60's was an all pervading phenomena of rapid consciousness alteration and that record was like martians landing on earth or something... in other words, really foreign sounding to our ears but so right for the times. Free love, LSD and pot etc. were blowing open the minds of the youth and certain records that were totally new sounding at the time became our perfect anthems for what was happening inside of us (I'm 65).

So yeah, I get it why you don't understand the hoopla about that record. You really hadda be there with no preconceived experience or expectiation to be part of how it impacted life. It was a major OMG!!! (although I don't think we had acronyms like that back then).

Saying there were 'filler" tunes on that album just does not compute for my generation. That's unimaginable to me. It was a coherent suite! It had never been done before where there were no gaps between tracks. It was SUPPOSED to be listend to as if it was one piece of music that flowed between different styles and told a story of how different life felt then.

I don't know if you can get how revolutionary and mind bending that was to us at the time, and especially on the drugs. The substances took us on a trip and the music took us on a trip too.

And the layered production was something totally new to the ear too! Did I say OMG!?

By the time you were born this was the norm and multi-track recording was into the dozens of tracks. To make a record sound like SGTP with only only a left and right channel to work with... amazing.

Oh well, off my soapbox. You just need to understand a context which had long disappeard by the time you arrived.. or rather more accurately stated, a context that had become all pervasive and therfore kind of so what.

Sgt Pepper is a Beatles masterpiece, (imho).

Just like SOTT and Lovesexy are some of Prince's fine moments. nod

I love MJ's triple OTW, Thriller & Bad.

What I never could get into is MJ's Invincible....... yuck.

Never understood Janet Jackson either.

Also Lenny Kravitz, can't mention any albums, just never liked him.

Almost all of Jay-Z's discography except Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, and The Black Album. Hell, even blueprint is overrated imo. His other albums is filler after filler after filler to my ears.

Arctic Monkey- Whatever People Say I Am. 0_0 hipsters and rock lovers worship and ejaculate over this album nightly. I t was literally worshiped upon it's release... it's... ok. I just never saw what was so deep or amazing about it. Some lists have put in the top 20 albums of all time lol lol

Most of Michael Jacksons catalog besides Off The Wall & Bad. Dangerous, Thriller, History, Invincible etc. Are so zzz

Pink Floyd- The Wall... no doubt this has some moments of beauty. Maybe even some haunting moments.. but a lot of it is just filler too me. I've listened to this albums dozens and dozens of times. It's a good album... never understood why it's seen as the greatest double labum of all time though.

Green Day- American Idio. Fuck this album, fuck the videos, the fuck the Broadway show, fuck green day, fuck their ties, fuck that pop punk attitude, and fuck this album. And fuck 8th grade 2004 when everyone was playing either this or Confessions over and over. Fuck this album FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK IT FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK IT.

Diorama- Silverchair- Great production... horrible HORRIBLE lyrics

Sex Pistols- Never Mind The Sex Pistols.

Alright it's a snap shot of punk at it's rawest. So what? woo we got a political anthem. Woo we got some shitty bass playing and 3 chord rock chords. Important album? sure... i guess. Good? lol

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

Datdonkeydick- Asherfierce

Gary Hunts Album Isn't That Good- Soulalive

Yeah that one. What was supposed to be so special about the material? It was like it was agreed publicly that this was the shit back in the day, whereas I thought it didn't really sound that different from rest of the R&B stuff out there. I was surprised to see even David Bowie telling the audiences at the 1999 VMAs how much he liked the album. I doubt he listens to it often any more though.

I think The Beatles, The Who, AC/DC, The Eagles, Oasis, Green Day, Pink Floyd and Bob Marley are irredeemably horrible. I've suffered through some of their albums through various polls. Don't like the Dylan albums I have heard either, though there were maybe 2 songs I at least liked.

I only remember the singles and remember disliking the "Killing Me Softly" cover strongly. Not that I have such strong negative feelings towards it anymore, but I do remember people who were into soul music, read magazines dedicated to soul music and so on, universally disliked the song. I was surprised when Lauryn became a critics favourite on her own a few years later.

Some others that I think are average at best are on this page.

R.E.M. is so consistently just below average for me. Graceland is pretty bad, and Org favorite The Nightfly was quite snoozeworthy in my book.

The 20/20 Experience Part 1- Not only does Part 2 actually have more songs I enjoy, Part 1 is simply a decent album that the media was trying to push as though it was sequel to Thriller itself. Overrated to hell and I can't see the hype. Unorthodox Jukebox is better.

Pure Heroine- I like Lorde, she has been blessed with an authentic gift of singing, is extremely talented and isn't/ doesn't come off as the gimmick her next door neighbor, Iggy Azalea is but man, her first album seems like such a chore to get through. Couldn't make it past the second song before getting bored.

Channel Orange- Too subdued and samey sounding for me to get into. Perfect cure for insomnia though. Frank is good but this album doesn't really reflect that IMO.

Magna Carta Holy Grail- Jay Z on autopilot and everyone last year was acting like it was his best album yet. Not a fan of the guy anyway.

Invincible- An underrated and oft overlooked album of MJ's but even so, it's fairly popular and I don't see what those who defend it see. About 4 songs I can get into; a quarter of the album. Not good.

Lady Gaga's entire discography- Even if she's the originator of the current day "wild girl" image, she's all show and no substance and her music for the most part is pretentiously average to me. For all the talk of how much artistic integrity she possesses, I have yet to consider her music artistic; at least on the level that her stans do.

Keith Sweat. I like 1 or 2 of his songs, mostly for the music. Other than that I've never dug his voice and singing style to want to listen to an entire album, or to listen to him on purpose. He's one of those people I'd turn the station when he came on. lol

Makes sense.. she wasn't really getting over by being a soul music purist in craft.. the fusion of hip hop with her singing was what drew me in.
