Robin Thicke Explains Paula Patton Album Dedication

By Shaun Kitchener On June 29, 2014

He's named the whole set 'Paula'

Robin Thicke has said that his decision to name new album Paula was a deliberate attempt at transparency with his fans.

The star's split from wife Paula Patton inspired the vast majority of the record's songs, and he's now said that there was a method behind the cringe-worthily obvious title.

"I came right off a tour and I had all these songs and all these ideas and feelings in my heart. And I went right into the studio," he told Ryan Seacrest.

Robin Thicke (WENN)

"I wrote all the songs in about three weeks and we recorded the album in about a month."

He added: "Obviously all the songs were about her or about how I feel about her. A lot of songwriters have done this kind of thing before. They won't tell you in the title or they'll be suggestive.

"I was just like, 'There's no reason to hide who this is about'. It's all about her."

He didn't divulge what her reaction to the whole thing has been, but called her "a remarkable woman".

He wrote all the songs in three weeks? Is this his way of telling us ahead of time that the album might suck? biggrin

I'm halfway through it and it all sounds good. It's the not the sad,sappy,ballad-heavy album that I thought it would be thumbs up! "Whatever I Want" is a great uptempo jam.

I give it a thumbs up.Fans who liked Robin's earlier work (before Blurred Lines) will like this album alot.Since he wrote and produced it himself,It feels more genuine...the type of music that he's really into.

"Forever Love" is a potential smash hit....a really nice ballad.

"Too Little Too Late","Whatever I Want" and "You're My Fantasy" are the other tracks that really stand out.

The good news: it's not all ballads lol it's a good mix of slow songs and uptempo tracks.

This album won't be a massive seller."Forever Love" is the only 'obvious' hit, imo. There's nothing as catchy as "Blurred Lines" here,so it'll be interesting to see how radio responds to these songs.

but I'm digging it music gonna pick up my copy tomorrow

Thanks for the review. I'm actually kind of relieved that there's nothing on here like Blurred Lines. I liked the song but I was a bit worried that he was going to change directions based off that one song. I really like Robin Thicke and I'm sure the rest of his fan base will enjoy this new material as much as his other older, R&B stuff....

All we can expect now is that whack ass Justin Timberlake to break up with his wife and do the same thing....

wink

GOODNESS! I just finished listening to the snippets of the album and my God, its definitely a solid album. Reminds me of his early albums that I love. The passion in his voice, lawd drool Might be the best R&B album I've heard in 2014. nod

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Is it me or is the music industry deliberately trying to destroy R&B? It's like they are trying to make it shameful to actually sing and play an instrument these days. Robin Thicke kinda rubbed me the wrong way (as a fan) when he sued Marvin Gaye's estate but I haven't heard anything else about it. Maybe it was just a stupid publicity stunt. Either way, I hope he doesn't pull those kind of dumb antics again and just accept the fact that he walks a fine line of being a copycat and an original artist. But, good for him for being in the game this long. He's made some great music over the years.

I agree. For example, someone like Bruno Mars could easily do R&B but since the industry wants to kill off the genre (but not completely because Adele is still around), Bruno probably isn't going to touch it.

Robin Thicke has the luxury of being a pop star and R&B star all he wants but not everyone can do that and still get the same level of support from their record label.

Thanks. Yeah you'll never hear any of Tyreese's music played on pop stations lol.....but I think I heard one or two of Ginuwine's songs on pop radio but it wasn't for long. I read in a magazine that TGT is trying to "save" R&B and I knew exactly what they were talking about.

When TMZ only talks about the BET awards to talk about these so-called "violent" incidents (that most likely have nothing at all to do with BET people), something's not right. One of the black guys on TMZ was like, "Well, did anyone actually win any awards at the awards show?" What he was getting at was that there was an awards show with top notch performers there but the creetins at TMZ only want to show the "shootings" that happened 20 miles away....

Gonna listen to the whole album later, but "you're my fantasy" already cool, nice sexy rhythm.

There's somethings different with his voice, on "still madly crazy" and "lock the door"he sounds pretty raw, love that.

Good to hear that this album isn't a stinker smile I was a bit worried that this was going to be an entire album full of drivel smile Keep the reviews coming---I'm gonna check the album out eventually!
