Her vocals are remarkable on this one, but it's not among her songs that I usually think about to listen to. It doesn't help that it was never on tour and I'm just not a huge fan of Shep Pettibone's production in general. Also the only song from The Immaculate Collection not to reappear on Celebration.

I don't recall liking this song much and it didn't get a lot of airplay where I live. I haven't heard it since it came out.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I like this one alot even though it's not considered one of her classic songs. With the way Justify My Love blew up it's probably no wonder why it didn't acheive that status or that she never made an official video for it. But it did reach top-10 status on the Billboard 100.

the timing of the single release was off. It was getting quite a bit of airplay (often instead of Justify My Love, on stations that weren't comfortable with JML). by the time they got around to releasing the single, airplay was on the downhill slide and they really put out the single as an after-thought. they hadn't really planned to release it at all.

They hadn't. Madonna wasn't interested in releasing it as a single, therefore no video was made but due to huge airplay it was eventually released.

A fan favourite.

That's a bit of a stretch.

this song is a redux of vogue, a preview of Erotica - without this song (and JML) i'd venture to say there'd be no concept for the Erotica album, her true Masterpiece...

i liked the raw demo like vocal quality of her more guttural, soulful, unpolished voice...wish we'd get to hear that type of soulfulness on her records today.

Looking back you can really see how smooth the transition was between Vogue/JML/RM/TUTBMP and the Erotica album. They just naturally segue into one another. Erotica actually uses the same vocal sample as JML.

RE: the vocals on RM...she had laryngitis! But I loved the fullness it gave her sound, if only for one song. biggrin

SoulAlive

It's an OK song but it's not one of my favorites by her.

cool I never meet ANYONE with the same musical tastes as me...except my other half of course. You have great taste! Madonna has been IT for me since I was 9. I heard Erykah in 9th grade when she debuted and Baduizm changed my life. That is still my favorite record 17 years later...for many diff reasons. Teena Marie...what can I say?! eek eek cool biggrin She blows my mind in every way.

It's okay, but JML was my favorite Madonna track and video back then. It still is my favorite Madonna song and video.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment
