Is John Legend Good?

I don't dislike his music.... nor care for it. It's just there lol he's had some ok stuff hear and there. And his collabs with Kanye have been pretty good. His new song isn't bad, but it's bland and meh.

Are his albusm worth checking out? the guy is talented and all. But just seems like a male Alicia Keys.

Only liked his Springsteen cover where his voice was pleasant, but that's about it. Don't like the grit in his voice. mad

I agree. He's not Donny or Peabo or anyone great, but he's talented and yeah...just "there." I'd much rather listen 2 Peabo all day. smile

the only song I like by him is "Green Light",a cool uptempo jam that he recorded with Andre3000.That's a cool song that sounds great in the clubs.

I think he's a nice guy and I like his support for charities and stuff, but his general style is kinda too generic and boring to me.

Change it one more time..

I like him okay. His voice can be hit and miss for me.

.

I think both his debut album and his latest album are definitely worth having a listen to. Get Lifted is a fairly consistent piece of work. For me, it's up there with the neo soul classics, but YMMV.

.

Love In The Future album actually caught me by surprise in how much I liked it on first listen and repeated listens. He's going for a fusion of ethereal and EDM-inspired sounds with his more familiar neo soul fare. And on the track 'Who Do We Think We Are?', he actually made Rick Ross sound... well, good. So kudos for that.

.

I never cared for the Evolver album except for 'Green Light'. Never listened to Once Again or that album that he did with The Roots.

I don't like his voice. He always sounds like he's straining...
Barnes & Noble was playing his last album in heavy rotation for a while. One night after a 5-hour shift I wanted to hunt him down. mad

I mute that car commercial whenever it comes on. That's 30 seconds too much of his voice for me... shake

yeahthat nod I bought the 3rd cd that had "Green Light" on it, which is the last fun song that he's made but that album wasn't that great. After that I haven't been interested in buying anymore of his music and from the singles I've heard, they are..well kind of boring.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

He's very good. I enjoy watching his performances on YouTube when he plays piano and delivers ballads an such. I don't think he's as professional as Alicia (I also think nobody from the mainstream can top her piano skills).. But he's fine.

I love his voice and lord knows he's very nice to look at razz . As far as his recordings, he has yet to record anything I'm going to even remotely remember. Although he has a nice voice, I really can't put him in the same league as a Peabo, Jeffrey, Stevie or Luther. But, he is far above 95% of the so-called R&B singers of today.

Asi-asi. He has talent and is 'credible' enough, but also has to work overtime to not epitomize the word "pedestrian."

It seems like he COULD be really good if he had the right writer/ producer working with him. He's got talent but I'm with the consensus, his own stuff is just not memorable. If I see he is making a guest appearance in tribute to some artist or other, I wouldn't get up and leave but I wouldn't tune in just to see him either.

I'm a big fan. I get where others would find his stuff boring, but it doesn't come across that way for me. His House of Blues LA DVD is one of my favorite concerts.

Some of my favorites:

-Everything on Get Lifted

-Tossin and Turnin

-Money Blown

-Another Again

-PDA

-Each Day Gets Better

-Everybody Knows

-Quickly

-Compared To What (cover w/ The Roots)

-Little Ghetto Boy (cover w/ The Roots)

-Who Did That To You

-Who Do We Think We Are

-All Of Me

-Made To Love

Also did a remixed version of Until You Come Back To Me called 'Do What I Gotta Do' with Kanye I really like. I believe its unreleased, but may have been a cast-off from Get Lifted.

I agree with trini that he reminds me of Tony Bennett because he's a middle of the road kind of singer. Not trying to say that he has the status of a Bennett or Sinatra but he does have that vibe.

I think he suffers from the fact that the doesn't fit the expected "profile" so to speak, meaning he's not edgy or thuggish, avant-garde or artsy-fartsy.

Same with Clay Aiken and I love him too...damn good singers/entertainers, no gimmicks.

I've seen him live twice...he's a good musician and gives a great show.
