The Internet is buzzing about an odd Michael Jackson impersonation that was billed as the King of Pop returning to perform a new song in the form of a Hologram at the 2014 Billboard Awards. Whether it was hologram technology or not, it clearly was a Michael Jackson impersonation.

The (Caucasian) impersonator did not look like Michael and the body wasn’t his. The technology is here to bring Michael Jackson back onscreen — using an impersonator and superimposing his face over the impersonator’s face. But that’s not what we saw on the Billboard Awards last night.

Besides the fact that he’s dead, Michael has never performed that song particular before. So there would be no way to superimpose his face singing that new song.

Still, gullible Americans were manipulated into believing the drivel they saw onscreen during the Billboard Awards was really Michael Jackson appearing through the magic of Hologram technology.

It just goes to show you that mass delusions are real.

I DVR'ed the Billboard Awards, and I've watched the performance 7 times already since it aired. I know there are A LOT of differing views and opinions about this among the fanbase, but personally I enjoyed it very, very much. I don't think it's trying to "bring the real Michael Jackson back" at all. That's impossible to do. It's quite obviously a hologram -- I notice some of the mouth movements don't seem natural or fluid. But, for what it is, it's quite extraordinary to me!

A part of me does indeed understand the argument of things like this hologram being exploitative of Michael's image, and yet another part of me can't help but feel like it's a wonderful, creative way of keeping his memory alive. JMHO

You're giving the media and the music industry too much credit. It's not as simple and lighthearted as "You don't know what you've got till it's gone" in the slightest. Whenever there was an opportunity to demonize him, the media seized it and ran with it and then he dies and they act like they never hated the man. That's bullshit. Hardly anyone was there for MJ when he needed support the most and if he were still with us today, it would be no different.

The problem I have is with the way they sold it. Ludachris kept saying things like "Michael Jackson will be appearing Live." As if MJ himself was coming out of his grave to make the performance. They sold it pre-show as a brilliant hologram. During the show they kept talking about mJ as if it was he himself performing. All of this. That's why so many hated this performance. Its like they did a bait and switch. They shouldnt have hyped and marketed this as a genuine Michael Jackson performance by using a real Michael Jackson hologram. They should have marketed it as a Michael Jackson tribute performance because that's basically what it was. But oh well...

Yes, the media loved to write BS about him at all times but now it's a different story because of the power of social media. In many ways I would have wished for Michael to have been around during this era of social media because it could have possibly been a bit of a better situation for him since the presence of us fans/stans is very high on social media and since magazines etc are dependant on peoples interaction - I do think it would have been a bit different, at least on online media.

I bought that book in '92. To this day I haven't fully read it. So no, it's not a must read. Not at all.

In other news, according to HitsDailyDouble Xscape will be #1 in the US, but it's awfully close, too close to really be sure. Lets hope their guestimate is right and won't swing back into the black keys favor:

Aint nobody checking for Quincy unless it's related to Michael Jackson tho, that's why he's so damn bitter and keeps talking about having worked with other artists like Ray Charles etc. It's a shame that at this point of his life he can't get over the fact that Michael was amazingly talented artist (probably the most talented!) "Love Never Felt So Good" by Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake jumps from #22 to #9 in its third week on the Hot 100. This makes Jackson the only artist in Hot 100 history to land a top 10 hit in each of five decades. He passes five artists who have notched top 10 hits in each of four decades: Barbra Streisand, Cher, Aerosmith, Madonna and Whitney Houston.

Making this even more amazing, if you combine Jackson's solo hits with his hits with the Jackson 5, he has made the top 10 in each of six decades. The J5's debut hit, "I Want You Back," first made the top 10 the last week of 1969.

As Billboard's Gary Trust notes, Jackson also sets a new record for the longest span of top 10 hits in Hot 100 history. He first cracked the top 10 (as a solo artist) in November 1971 with "Got To Be There." This week's chart is dated May 31, which gives him a 42 year and six month span of top 10 hits. He passes Santana, whose top 10 hits span 33 years and eight months.

"Love Never Felt So Good" is Jackson's 29th top 10 hit. Since the Hot 100 began in August 1958, only two artists have amassed as many or more top 10 hits: Madonna (38) and the Beatles (34). This is Jackson's 40th top 10 hit if you add in eight top 10 hits with the Jackson 5 and three with the re-named the Jacksons. It's Timberlake's 16th top 10 hit (his 22nd if you add in six *NSYNC hits).

This is Jackson's fourth top 10 hit on which he shared billing, following "The Girl Is Mine" and "Say Say Say" (both with Paul McCartney) and "Scream" (with Janet Jackson). (Siedah Garrett sang an uncredited backup vocal on "I Just Can't Stop Loving You").

Jackson co-wrote "Love Never Felt So Good" with pop veteran Paul Anka. Anka wrote 11 of his 12 top 10 hits as an artist. (That was unusual when he started in 1957, especially for a teen artist.) Anka's only top 10 hit that he didn't write was his last, the nostalgic ballad "Times Of Your Life."

Timberlake was just two when Jackson recorded this pop-disco tune in 1983. At that time, with disco winding down (and Prince coming on strong), it might have seemed a little dated. Now it's like a little lost gem. Johnny Mathis recorded the song on his 1984 album A Special Part Of Me.

Timberlake has a second hit in the top 10. His solo smash "Not A Bad Thing" holds at #8 for the third week. Billboard's Trust notes that this is the 13th time that Timberlake has had two songs in the top 10 at the same time. That's a lot of doubling up.
