I don't think so. It looked 3D like the new video games to me, only really higher resolution and quality. shrug

It DEFINITELY LOOKED like as impersonator, and not a hologram at all.

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

And what was the point of them going thru all the trouble of bringing out an impersonator? After all that hype about having an MJ hologram perform...I thought they were going to use one of Michael's performances from the past and somehow cut and paste his body--on the screen, to make it look like he was performing in the here and now. Like what they did with the Tupac hologram. But that's not what they gave us. disbelief Oh well, i'm over it already bored2

Agree. I was highly disappointed.

I wasn't really feeling the idea to begin with but since they hyped it up like we were actually going to see a legit MJ similiar to the Tupac hologram I chilled.

The MJ hologram was not used with the same technology as the 2pac one so that can explain why it does not look realistic.

I dunno. It looked like a straight up Las Vegas impersonator. Can't they get sued for that?

Yeah it was fake alright, a fake hologram that wasnt really a hologram and yes it totally was an impersonator! disbelief A hologram is a 3D image of an actual object or person. The reason why so many fans are upset over this is that it was advertised that there was going to be a Michael Jackson hologram performing at the BB awards. So we were expecting a 3D image of the REAL Michael Jackson to be projected onto the screen. We were execting something like Tupac's hologram:

^That is an image of the REAL Tupak Shakur. Now compare that with what they put up on stage at the BB Awards that was touted as a hologram of "Michael Jackson" you can see the clear difference. The Tupac hologram was used with authentic footage of the man performing live. That's what everyone was expecting with the Michael Jackson performace. We expected them to use old footage of Michael performing and create a 3D hologram and project it on stage. That is not what they did and it is obvious that they hired an impersonator to get up there and perform. All the archive footage of MJ that exists and yet they couldnt pull from any of those to create the hologram? Maybe they ran into some kind of legal obstacles or something came up but they should come clean and admit they used an impersonator. I mean, the face wasnt even Michael's rolleyes

The way this performance was hyped, people were expecting this:

Or this:

Not that sham trying to pass for a legit holographic performance of MJ on the Billboard Awards. Even Blanket is mad lol

I make CGI renders of people for a living.

So I'm going to stand by my opinion until it's proven with evidence to be inaccurate. Personally, I too think the MJ hologram performance was whack but not because it was an impersonator, though. I think it was whack because they hyped it and set the expectations too high. The reason the Tupac hologram went over so well is because it was new, original and no one saw it coming.

This was over-hyped as a not to be missed, Michael Jackson performance. People, myself included, were expecting perfection. Which was literally impossible even with the technology because Michael himself never performed to the song, so the moves they used to it were off. Something Michael never was when he performed. Would it have been better if they'd have used a song Michael had actually performed? Maybe but the moment has passed and they blew it.

With that being said, if turns out that I'm wrong and it actually was an impersonator, I wouldn't want to be anyone that's even remotely associated with this mess! lol

Agree with the bolded parts. They did overhype this and say this was to be a performance of a Michael Jackson hologram. I am still not convinced that it was a hologram they used and not an impersonator...unless they just used a hologram of an impersonator but what sense would that make? Lol. But do holograms/CGI images cast shadows? See the 3:10 mark of the youtube video.

Did Billboard Use a Micha... Hologram?

Michael Jackson impersonator

The Internet is buzzing about an odd Michael Jackson impersonation that was billed as the King of Pop returning to perform a new song in the form of a Hologram at the 2014 Billboard Awards. Whether it was hologram technology or not, it clearly was a Michael Jackson impersonation.

The (Caucasian) impersonator did not look like Michael and the body wasn’t his. The technology is here to bring Michael Jackson back onscreen — using an impersonator and superimposing his face over the impersonator’s face. But that’s not what we saw on the Billboard Awards last night.

Besides the fact that he’s dead, Michael has never performed that song particular before. So there would be no way to superimpose his face singing that new song.

Still, gullible Americans were manipulated into believing the drivel they saw onscreen during the Billboard Awards was really Michael Jackson appearing through the magic of Hologram technology.

It just goes to show you that mass delusions are real.

i dont understand.. did they forget they had this?

This of coarse, is how they brough the skeleton in Ghosts "alive" and were able for it to manipulate Michael's moves perfectly. because it was actually MJ's movements. This is what i thought they would use, the information/moves that was captured from the motion sensor things MJ is using to make the ghosts short film.

Thank you, yes, I did make those CGI images and yes, CGI images can cast shadows. Rendering on my slow machine can take hours and sometimes days depending on how much detail I put in, but here is a quick, unfinished, with no post-work, example of a CGI render casting a shadow.

I feel like the Estate lacks imagination and creativity, and they are also too afraid of how MJ's physical appearance was perceived by the public. Last night was just another example. The album Michael was another example. Last night was a half ass effort and bad idea to even consider. For the most part, the Xscape album is pretty good (though I have no doubt it could've been better). But let it be. Last night, the Estate got too greedy.
