dance music (which can be anything Jazz was originally dance music and you can square dance to bluegrass/country) easy listening You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Soul and all its sub-genres. “It means finding the very human narrative of a man navigating between idealism and pragmatism, faith and politics, non- violence, the pitfalls of acclaim as the perils of rejection” - Lesley Hazleton on the first Muslim, the prophet.

British pop and US black music (especially soul, but please don't make me choose ). I'd probably be sick due to not listening to German electronica and French chanson, but the title thread says clearly that I could only have two. [Edited 2/24/14 5:52am]

Hard one. I suppose it would have to be funk and reggae (roots/revival/dub) I would seriously miss soul & hip hop tho. "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

There's no accounting for taste, but I'd pick late 90s/early 2000s urban contemporary (a.k.a 'R&B') and New Romantic. . Sure I'd miss hardrock, hip-hop, proper soul, UK garage, jazz, and Chopin/Liszt, but ehh. I need to listen to my eternal favourites. I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

ever thought about new age music???

oh hell, yes, I even consider new age music as some sort of classical music (I know purists will kill me), damn I need my Enya when I walk through the woods lol

Damn, that is a tough question because I need five instead of just two. If forced to have only two, it would be synth-driven funk & latin freestyle.
