Welcome To The Jungle Baby: Interview With Bruno Mars

As he hits Beijing, Bruno talks Super Bowl and success

As Bruno Mars prepares to make his Beijing debut, he tells Time Out about his family band, fame and the Red Hot Chili Peppers

thebeijinger: The two weeks around the Grammys and the Super Bowl were very exciting for you this year. How did it feel to win Best Pop Vocal Album and perform at the Super Bowl all within a week?

Bruno Mars: Probably like the most nerve-wracking week of my life. I know I got nervous when I accepted that Grammy. The Super Bowl is, it really became this massive pop culture gig for any artist to land, it’s such an honor, but with that honor comes a lot of pressure, and we were the first to ever do it outdoors. And the pressure of it being cold, and we rehearsed in 9 degree weather, we had a lot of factors that were working against us, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. And something that I have with me forever, I can tell my kids that Dad performed at the Super Bowl.

thebeijinger: How does it feel to be the youngest Super Bowl halftime performer?

Bruno Mars: I just wanted to make sure that we did it right, treat it like any other show. Even though the public didn’t want to treat it like that but that’s how we had to walk into it, that’s the only way we were going to do a decent job.

thebeijinger: Coming from a family of musicians, your sisters also have a band – are there any plans for collaborations in the future?

Bruno Mars: They’re still singing and songwriting. They have to find their way, just like every artist has to put in the work and the hours and write songs. It’s just like any occupation, you got to study. And that’s what they’re going through right now and I’m helping them as much as I can.

thebeijinger: You’ve mentioned in the past that Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley are some of your musical influences, could you tell us more about that and how they have influenced you as a musician? What are some of your favorite songs by them?

Bruno Mars: Some kids watch Michael Jordan or Joe Montana or Mike Tyson and want to get into sports. And I was watching rock stars – Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, James Brown, The Beatles. I was fascinated by that I guess at a young age. Let’s say, Michael Jackson, I’m going to go with Dirty Diana. Elvis Presley, I’m going to say Heartbreak Hotel.

thebeijinger: What is your songwriting process?

Bruno Mars: It’s never forced. Every time I try to write a song, when I sit down and think I’m going to write, I really want to write a song, and it never works out. It’s always when it hits me unexpectedly on a plane or right before I go to bed, something like that. Some kind of idea will come into my head, sometimes the next day I have the idea finished, sometimes it’ll take me a year to finish the idea, but that’s how it normally works, you can’t just force it.

thebeijinger: Of your songs, are there any that hold a particularly special meaning?

Bruno Mars: Every song. I wouldn’t put it out if it was just something that I didn’t really genuinely feel, or something that I’m not proud of. But every song. I only have two albums out and both albums only have 10 songs on it. So I basically do every single song, in a concert I do every single song I’ve ever written.

thebeijinger: Are you working with anyone in that you are particularly excited about?

Bruno Mars: We’re always working with our friends Jeff Bhasker and Mark Ronson. They are some producers that we really like, we’re good buds and musical wise they’re our favorite producers. We’re always going back and forth with them thinking what’s the next step, what can we do together. Sam Smith, I like his music. There’s a couple of cats out there that are writing some special tunes.

thebeijinger: Beyond music you have also been involved in film and SNL, how do you like the film experience? Any particular memories?

Bruno Mars: It’s a different monster. And SNL was me kind of facing my fear, I grew up playing in bars and in the clubs and singing live, and when I first started promoting my album and stuff and had to go on TV, that was kind of a new thing for me. And not necessarily that I was scared of it, it’s just a different thing. I’m more comfortable just doing my thing with my band, but TV was a whole other beast. So when the SNL opportunity came up, I just used it to face the fears and just go for it. And I’m so thankful they called me and hopefully one day I get to do it again because it was a blast.

thebeijinger: How did the name Moonshine Jungle come about for this tour?

Bruno Mars: Well I got a song on the album called Moonshine, and I got a song on my album called Gorilla. I open with Moonshine and I close with Gorilla in the show. It’s giving people an experience, and with the jungle and the whole theme, we wanted to make it feel like you’re stepping into something a little unpredictable. Unorthodox. And maybe a little dangerous.

thebeijinger: Is there anything you’re looking forward to or would like to experience this time in China? What can audiences expect from your show this time?

Bruno Mars: Just being there. Growing up in Hawaii I was always around Asian culture, and I definitely can relate. I’m just excited to see it and feel it. We don’t get a chance to spend that much time out there so I’m going to be really taking advantage of every opportunity I can, and especially performing in front of the audience that we’ve never performed in front of.

thebeijinger: Do you think Asia will influence your music?

Bruno Mars: It’s just all love. That’s what music is. That’s why music was created. To make people feel good, to uplift people. It’s like cavemen beating on drums and stuff to dance around the fire. That’s what musicians are here for, it’s to give everyone an escape, to let everyone feel good and take people out of everyday problems and hear music and sing and hopefully give you some words you can relate to. Not just Asia, but every country, I just want to go out there and uplift some people and let people walk away feeling like they saw something and are excited.

thebeijinger: What’s next after this tour? Plans for a new album?

Bruno Mars: Nothing (laughs). Expect nothing. I’ve been on tour for awhile now and I still have a little more to go after Asia, and it’s important that I don’t burn out, and it’s important that I keep it sacred, my music sacred, so when I’m ready, it’ll be ready.

thebeijinger: What do you want to do next?

Bruno Mars: I want to get better. I want to write better songs, I want to put on a better show, I want to make better music videos, I want my next album to be better than the first and the second.

An older review of Bruno's concert in Singapore last week:

Bruno Mars impresses with first Singapore gig

US singer Bruno Mars kept the 11,000-strong audience on its feet with some amazing music and fancy footwork at his first Singapore gig.

SINGAPORE: There are good concerts and then there are downright amazing ones like US singer Bruno Mar's first ever gig in Singapore, as part of his Moonshine Jungle Tour on Wednesday.

"We want to get you all moving!" declared Mars early in the show,

And he delivered.

The singer, backed by his eight-man band, kicked off the show with a string of high-energy songs like "Moonshine", "Natalie" and "Treasure", amidst absolutely deafening applause from the 11,000-strong crowd at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Mars' energy was infectious and got the audience dancing as though they were in one giant club.

He was clearly enjoying himself, and he brought everyone else along for the ride.

Even after eight songs, Mars just kept going with nary a break, seamlessly transitioning from song to song .

He continued to work the crowd, gyrated to the beat of his music during his faster numbers and showed off his strong vocals during his slower ones like the moving "When I Was Your Man".

Mars and his band seemed to feed off the energy of one another to keep the party going.

It is mind-boggling how the members of his band can play their instruments and perform synchronised dance moves with Mars during the show.

Mars and his crew kept the audience on its feet with songs like "Billionaire", "The Lazy Song" and the overtly sexy "Our First Time".

The entire venue turned into an ocean of writhing arms when Mars cranked up the excitement with the fast-paced "Runaway Baby", before rounding out the concert with his hits like "Just The Way You Are", "Locked Out Of Heaven" and "Gorilla".

Love him or hate him, Mars is one brilliant showman.

He connected with the audience almost instantly and went on to constantly interact with them throughout the show to keep them involved.

Mars would sometimes even tease them a little by intentionally stopping just before completing a song's catchy chorus, and only doing so when the audience screamed in anticipation.

Apart from the volume of the music, which sometimes drowned out his singing, Mars' first Singapore gig was a polished, highly entertaining one.

Mars' boundless energy and enthusiasm, coupled with the creative use of lighting and pyrotechnics during the concert, made for a frenetic, breathtaking show.

Sparse Primary Market Helps Drive Up Price of Bruno Mars Tickets on Secondary Market

Since halftime at the Super Bowl, there has been a lasting effect on secondary market prices for Bruno Mars tickets. Two months after the Super Bowl, prices on the secondary market aren’t quite at the astronomical levels they were immediately after the game, but ‘Moonshine Jungle’ remains one of the most expensive music tours of the year. Most of that is due to the secondary market being the only place to purchase tickets for a majority of the upcoming dates. Of the 48 remaining North American shows on ‘Moonshine Jungle,’ 27 are sold out on the primary market.

The next leg of the tour kicks off in Mars’ home state of Hawaii. As with many other artists performing in their home state, Bruno Mars Hawaii tickets are well above the average price across the rest of the tour. Prices could be even higher, but the singer will be playing three separate shows on April 18, 19 and 21 to adhere to the demand of tickets that have sold out all three dates.

The demand was so high, the State Senate in Hawaii passed what is now known as the “Bruno Mars Act,” which limited the purchases of all tickets through the first 48 hours of sale to the physical box office to dissuade ticket scalping. Now well past that time frame, the average price across the secondary market across those three shows is $376 with an average get-in price of $67. The $376 average is 30.5% above the total tour average of $288.36.

For eight select shows across the remaining dates, Mars will be joined by Pharrell Williams, four of which will take place in New York and Los Angeles. Mars would have had no problem selling out the Hollywood Bowl or Madison Square Garden on his own, but there’s no doubt the addition of Pharrell helped with sales of those four concerts. The average price for Bruno Mars Los Angeles tickets have an average price of $426.52, 48% above the tour average, and an average get-in price of $150 for May 31 and June 1. July 14 and 15 the duo will pair up again for two sold out concerts at Madison Square Garden. Bruno Mars New York tickets have an average price of $384.89 with an average get-in price of $124.

June 7’s concert at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans is the most expensive show on the tour. Mars will be playing in New Orleans for just one night, unlike the other top cities on the tour, but like those cities the concert is sold out on the primary market.Bruno Mars New Orleans tickets have an average price of $448.47 and a get-in price of $118. The least expensive concert on the tour comes the night before in Memphis. Primary market tickets aren’t sold out at the FedEx Forum and secondary market Bruno Mars Memphis tickets are 25% below the tour average with just a $215 average price.

Aside from the scheduled dates on ‘Moonshine Jungle,’ Mars has six remaining sold out dates at the Chelsea in Las Vegas throughout 2014. Mars played the first concert at the new concert space at The Cosmopolitan in December and will have played 10 total dates at the venue by the end of this year. The singer will plays three sets of two shows at the Chelsea in May, August and October. Across the six remaining shows, Bruno Mars Las Vegas tickets have a $575.08 average price, easily the highest of any venue on the scheduled tour.

During halftime at the Super Bowl, Mars solidified himself as a top-notch performer and he’ll keep it going at least for another five months through the end of his tour in September. Over the past two months Mars has evolved into a must-see act and the current ticket prices to see him perform proves plenty of fans will are willing to pay a premium for the show.

LOS ANGELES There "Mars brother," said the American singer Bruno Mars debut less than four years, the issue had only two albums, has become an international music star hot line: brush over the ceremony, won the Grammy, singing into the Super Bowl. This young man was only 28 years old has been regarded as a "winner in life." Last night, the Shanghai landmark Mercedes - Benz Cultural Center, Bruno Mars "MoonshineJungle Jungle Moonlight" Shanghai concert staged a grand, together with the fans to experience a "Martian" jungle adventure .

See the "Mars brother" Live star flavor strength of the field

In February this year, Bruno Mars in a "United States of America Gala on, "said the midfielder Super Bowl show presented a 13-minute performances to audiences around the world to show his strength and site different from the ordinary talent in music. For the first time to perform in China, for the fans and many star performers in Europe and America is undoubtedly a rare second chance. Earlier in Hong Kong, Taiwan farm attracted Gigi(microblogging ) , Fan Fan( microblogging ) ( Micro Signal: to_get_her_fanfan ) , Julian Cheung, Raymond( microblogging ) , COCO CoCo( microblogging ) , such as the stars went to the site yesterday, although not on a weekend, but "Mars man's" Live still full field staged, with no exaggeration to describe packed.

Presents a new adaptation of the eleven songs full of surprises

"Mars brother," said, "Moonshine Jungle Jungle Moonlight" The name is to give people a different experience to the jungle theme, hope brings the feeling is like to step into a mysterious realm, even there is little sense of danger. Therefore, before the opening curtain is a large golden tropical jungle, great sense of the scene, and occasionally on the screen can see the shadow of musicians ready, very tantalize.

Before the opening, the fans in the stands who is also playing a spontaneous wave, wherever he goes, it does not start to heat up, the organizers AEG Live Entertainment (AEG Live Asia), said such a scenario even in concert frequent Mercedes - Benz Cultural Center are rare. Suddenly the curtain falls directly, "Moonshine" music sounded, was flying parrot on the screen, this and "Mars brother" recently "Rio Adventure 2" voice of the parrot image coincide. Each special is the first new songs are done arranger, songs and songs of convergence has also been clever choreography, the audience surprises, really "Mars brother," said: Everything is unpredictable, unconventional.

Mars did not say a grand talent to sing in the end to help the brothers in good faith

Bruno Mars watched the scene, did not know he was the major awards ceremony, leaderboards favor is inevitable. And sound, dance act in harmony, treble soared in the original Key, turn the sound capability. General singer will play the video in concert, fate changed clothes. The "Mars brother" on the flavor of the jungle wearing a straw hat and a vest to sing in the end, what really put all the focus audience attention on his music, but also from time to time and the audience interaction "teaser" show a handful of existing school Chinese, a series of a few sentences, "I love you" to push the atmosphere to the peak.

HILARIOUS! This Uncyclopedia website, a fake Wikipedia, has Bruno's "bio"

Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars during the filming of an infomercial for toilet paper.
“Hee-hee, someone stole my moves, sucka!”
“Mmm,that afro of his....would go perfect with a Béarnais sauce.”
~ Armin Meiwes on Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars
(born Bruno Sammartino) is a Grammy winning singer, songwriter and vaudeville performer. He still believes that it is the 1950s as proven by his dress sense and old-timey catchphrases. He has been noted to say "Hey dollface, show us those gams!" and "I saw you crazy cats with that Calico Queen!". Practically anyone under 65 would struggle to understand him. He is known for his heart-swooning songs and his tween-girl-exclusive fan base. He lists only Chris Eubank and Cameo as his singing influences. He has collaborated with many artists including Barry White, Ke$ha, Édith Piaf and Kitty Wells. Rumour has it that his afro has "sexual powers", but this is highly controversial and open to much debate.

editEarly life

Bruno was born Bruno Jupiter Sammartino on October 31, 1932 in Honolulu,Hawaii. His parents Richard Pryor and Björk were both born in Reykjavík, Iceland. He is the brother of Marlon, Tito, Jackie and Jermaine Jackson.

From the ripe-old age of 6 months, his father encouraged him to start his own Elvis tribute act. He would gurgle along to such hits as "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Hound Dog", only stopping occasionally for nappy changes or to be burped. His act was a big hit in all the sticky bars of back-street Honolulu. So much so, that all the bars offered him 20% off all their Long Island Ice Teas after 11pm.

At the age of 2 he decided to shorten his name to Bruno Jupiter. After a while, Jupiter became his least favorite planet due to it having the strongest pull of gravity in the solar system. So he changed his name to Bruno Mars. Mars being relatively the same land mass as Earth, therefore more endearing to his (then) demographic of 2 year olds.

At school he was the quiet kid that would shuffle around, unnoticed. It was not until he joined a school band known as "The Sneezingtons" (and also sister-band "threadwormettes") that he started to get noticed. He got expelled on many occassions for too much moonwalking, infringing the trademark of Michael Jackson which his teachers took offense to.

He left Hawaii for LA when he was 16 without telling a soul. When he arrived in Inglewood he spent his days busking and fortune telling. He was known at this time as 'Mystic Mars' by his clientelle. "Listen to your fortune by song" was his sales-pitch. His sang "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" by Cutting Crew the most often. He claimed that the hardest thing to adjust to in LA was the food. He had previously lived entirely on a Spam and pineapple diet.(Even people in Hawaii thought that it was weird.)

editCareer

Bruno Mars got his first big break when he did an impromptu performance of "On the Good Ship Lollipop" for Berry Gordy of Motown records. Because of his gusto and 'swag' he was signed. After about a week of no song writing and excessive use of the company photocopier, his contract was torn up. He then returned to what he knows best; performing as an Elvis tribute act and drowning his sorrow in Long Island Iced Teas.

Bruno, not one to accept defeat, performed endlessly to anyone that would listen to him sing. His first hit single 'Grenade' was made during this difficult time as a result of a real life event. While performing non-stop outside a Californian military base, a soldier just had enough with his constant whiney pitch. The soldier threw a grenade directly at Bruno's kisser. It landed in his hands, failed to explode and thus Bruno had his 'eureka' moment.

Bruno's performances is peppered with a lot of crotch thrusting which has attracted the attention of many protestors, particularly the Westboro Baptist Church. They hold signs which say "Thrust your crotch, rot in hell!" and ironically, "Locked Out Of Heaven" outside of his concerts. He travels with a 30-piece orchestra at all times. Many of his girlfriends find this slightly off putting, particularly when getting intimate.

editThe Afro

Bruno Mars' first grew out his afro during his time singing in the Jackson 5. The afro has attracted great intrigue from the general populus. Scientists have listed it amongst several afrodisiacs which include oysters, chocolate and emu blood. Noone quite knows how the height of the afro is achieved. Many speculate that it has a reinforced steel structure at the base. This is quite credible given that he is often seen tugging pianos by his hair (as he did in the 'Grenade' music video) and letting women climb up his hair to get to his second floor bedroom. His afro always causes problems when moving through customs at the airport. He has been known to smuggle cans of Spam and his Hooters discount card in his 'fro. These are prohibited items in many middle eastern countries. He was detained several times for Spam related offenses and did a 4 year stint in an Iraqi jail.

editFuture

Currently, Bruno Mars is spending most of his time growing his afro. When he has the time he endeavors to star in Colgate infomercials and work as a wedding singer.

Bruno Mars Sells Out On Moonshine Jungle Tour

Bruno Mars has just wrapped up his latest concert, taking the stage in Beijing and rocking it out like our trusty Hawaiian music icon does. This comes after a wildly successful trip to Singapore and he’s already had his concert dates in South Korea and Japan sell out.

And Bruno Mars is staying busy with his tour. Straight after Asia Bruno Mars hits hometown Honolulu at the end of April and continues through North America clear to September with concerts varying from every week to every other day. View his complete Moonshine Jungle tour HERE.

You can catch Bruno Mars at the Chelsea in May, August and October. But you’d have to already have tickets because the Mars’ events are all sold out. This latest arrangement at Las Vegas’s newest performance space at The Cosmopolitan had 14-time Grammy nominee Bruno Mars as the inaugural performance and were eager to sign an extended agreement through 2014.

After the successful ticket sales from even not-yet-performed concerts it’s expected that the deal will be renewed for 2015 as well.

Clearly Bruno Mars has made his mark on the music industry. With consistent sold out concerts and adoring fans the world across Bruno Mars is a music icon worth $15 million net (as of 2013). With the amount of progress being made in 2014 that number should be going up quite a bit. Here are some things you might not know about the music tycoon.

Bruno Mars is a stage name. His real name is Peter Gene Bayot Hernandez.

His stage name, “Bruno Mars”, was inspired by the wrestler Bruno Samartino and the Mars came from the planet.

Bruno Mars is one of six children.

Bruno Mars wasn’t an instant hit. He had an unsuccessful stint with Motown Records in 2004 and got his big break with Atlantic Records in 2009.

A major influence for Bruno Mars was Elvis Presley. As a kid Mars’ spent time impersonating Presley as well as Michael Jackson and Little Richard. Bruno Mars was quoted saying “I watch the best. I’m a big fan of Elvis. I’m a big fan of 1950s Elvis when he would go on stage and scare people because he was a force and girls would go nuts! You can say the same thing for Prince or The Police. It’s just guys who know that people are here to see a show, so I watch those guys and I love studying them because I’m a fan.” (4music.com)

Bruno works his magic

Grammy-winning superstar Bruno Mars had fans eating out of his hand at his recent Jakarta concert, writes Loong Wai Ting

IT was a rare treat to catch Grammy-winning superstar Bruno Mars in action.

Mars (whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez), who has sold more than eight million albums, kicked off the recent Indonesian leg of his Moonshine Jungle Tour at the Mata Elang International Stadium in Jakarta, with a mesmerising power-packed performance and slick dance moves.

Needless to say, the 15,000-capacity stadium was packed to the brim. The fans went into a frenzy the moment the gold curtain with painted palm trees parted to reveal the singer. Some over-excited fans who fainted had to be carried out in stretchers. Mars, flanked by his eight-piece ensemble, opened his 90-minute performance with Moonshine.

Considering Mars’ incredible showmanship and vocals, his fans were disappointed that the concert was only 90 minutes long. But that did not stop the Hawaiian-born singer from giving his best.

His Motown-styled band shared the limelight with Mars. While the obvious star was none other than Mars, you could feel their camaraderie as they exchanged banter. They were a cheeky lot as they put together some catchy dance moves even as they played their instruments.

As expected, the flashy stadium with its lighting effects got everyone in the party mood. Couples hugged each other or held hands with their friends as the disco ball lowered for the song Treasure.

Mars, who by now was drenched in sweat, never failed to make small talk with the audience at the end of each song. Even without all the flashy lights and pyrotechnics, Mars easily delivered a great show, with his showmanship and heartfelt vocals that can soothe any aching soul. It felt surreal when Mars hit every note perfectly.

Mars is among only a handful of performers who can turn their own songs into an entirely new tracks with vocal flair. He made it look easy when he did a mash-up of his own duet with Travie McCoy’s Billionaire and a cover of Barrett Strong’s 1960 hit, Money (That’s What I Want).

At times, Mars is reminiscent of a young Michael Jackson but with enough characters of his own, from his music to cheeky persona and wide smile. He is also a smooth operator, with enough soul/reggae flair to keep his audience going for the whole night.

When the time came to slow things down, Mars gave a soulful and touching rendition of When I Was Your Man. Mars noted at the concert that the song was both “the hardest to write and sing”. As the lights dimmed, it became the stand-out moment as he belted the first note of the song. His next number Grenade was equally powerful.

It was a bonus treat to be able to catch a glimpse of the singer’s other talents — him strumming and playing the guitar throughout the show as well as his awesome drum solo. It was clear that the audience had a great time.

Wrapping the concert up, Mars took to the stage with his fun twist of Just the Way You Are; dedicating it to each and every one present. For the encore, the band featured a lengthy chaser of Locked Out Of Heaven, during which confetti rained down on the crowd.

With such great enthusiasm and respect for music, it was clear that Mars loves what he does. The fans lapped up everything that he offered. Do not be surprised if Mars decides to drop by Asia again, because I think he can tell that his Asian fans love him!

Bruno Mars, John Oliver to Headline Robin Hood Benefit

Serving as a chairman of the Robin Hood Foundation’s annual benefit in New York may be the closest some Wall Streeters get to being treated like a rock star.

In past years, chairmen have walked on stage under spotlights to the applause of some 4,000 guests in a hall of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Screens around the room broadcast the image so everyone in the audience can see.

The financier chairmen for this year’s benefit on May 12 are David Tepper, co-founder of Appaloosa Management, and Alan Howard, co-founder of Brevan Howard Asset Management LLP. They are joined byJeff Bezos, founder and chief executive officer of Amazon, and Michael Strahan, the former professional football player who hosts a talk show with Kelly Ripa.

The actual rock stars will include Bruno Mars, the singer-songwriter who performed in the 2014 Super Bowl halftime show, whose hits include “Billionaire,” “Just the Way You Are,” and “Locked Out of Heaven.” Brian Williams, the NBC newsman with a comic streak, and John Oliver, the fake newsman with a serious streak, will be featured in the program.

On the invitation sent to Bloomberg News last week, the names appear in fluorescent green ink above an image of the Manhattan Bridge from the Brooklyn side, with a moon rising. Howard’s wife, Sabine, and Bezos’s wife, MacKenzie, are listed with their husbands, and Tepper shares his billing with Appaloosa Partners.

The annual event last year raised $80.7 million for the foundation, which fights poverty in New York City by supporting more than 200 nonprofits with financial and technical assistance.

Tickets start at $3,000, an amount enabling the foundation to “offer one week of visiting nurse services to 30 low-income first-time moms and their newborns” according to the invitation. The most expensive tables are $250,000 each, “enough to provide high-quality preschool for over 2,500 children.”

Bruno has been inducted into The Headwear Association’s 2014 Hat Wearer Hall of Famealong with The Queen, Spike Lee & Elton John.

“Bruno Mars is a multi-platinum, chart-topping musician, rarely seen without a topper of his own. Bruno Mars has a dashing, polished modern day style, and his hats are the crowning glory of his signature look. Bruno Mars told MTV that you have to pick your hats based on chemistry, “the hat has to speak to you, from your soul.” The American star is renowned for his love of hats, and he is constantly being spotted in headwear of every style including beanies, street-wear style caps and trilbys. But it is the old-school fedora hats that has become his trademark. His love of hats is well documented, and when commenting on his hit song ‘Billionaire’, he remarked that if he was a billionaire himself, he’d want a “diamond-encrusted golden hat made from unicorn fur.”

Which Music Artists Transcend the Gender and Age Divides

Who ranks high no matter the demo By Melissa Hoffmann

Generationally speaking, there's often a vast divide in musical taste—as most parents of teenagers can attest. When it comes down to men versus women, some names easily top both Top 40 lists, while other popular artists (for example, Kanye West and Taylor Swift) may see a sea of gender uniformity as they stare out from their stages.

Bruno Mars brings sexy, groovy ‘Moonshine Jungle’ to Seoul

American singer-songwriter holds first concert in Korea

International music sensation Bruno Mars lit up Seoul’s Olympic Park on Tuesday night as 13,000 rowdy fans filled the Gymnastics Stadium for the Hawaii native’s first-ever concert in Korea.

“We came to get you all moving, to get you all shakin’ and to get you all dancing, so get off your feet!” Mars shouted as he kicked off the show.

Through his ongoing worldwide Moonshine Jungle Tour, the original hooligan himself pulled out all the stops in a near-nonstop 90-minute show that closed with an electrifying double encore. After opening with “Moonshine” from his second studio album “Unorthodox Jukebox,” he quickly transitioned into smash hit single “Treasure” and brought the whole crowd to their feet. By just the second song of the night, the fans seemed transfixed by his humbling smile and soulful vocals, as Mars always manages to combine the sexy throwback musical groove with modern funk.

Mars not only captivated the audience members with his wide vocal range and heart-wrenching vocal style, but also his smooth moves on the stage. The singer commanded the entire stage with his cool, slick dance interludes, looking as though he had his heart set on being crowned the new generation’s king of pop music.

With his Michael Jackson-inspired dance moves right down to the pelvic thrusts, spins, intricate footwork and even his take on the original King of Pop’s iconic moonwalk, Mars never failed to bring back old-school funk on top of his signature reggae, doo-wop and R&B pop style hits.

The musician even took on one of Barrett Strong’s classic hits “Money (That’s What I Want)” and was brought to his knees shredding out a killer guitar solo before eventually slowing it down with Ginuwine’s debut ’90s R&B single “Pony,” during what could only be described at the evening’s seductive section.

Mars later went on to perform past hits including his feature section on Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire” as well as “The Lazy Song,” “Just the Way You Are,” “Marry You” and “Grenade.” The only performance that seemed to be missing from the near 20-song set list was 2011 chart topping ballad single “It Will Rain.”

After saying his goodbyes and walking off stage, Mars returned in no time and promptly kicked off a double encore performance with a sick drum solo before performing a energetic rendition of “Locked Out of Heaven” as a tidal wave of flickering gold confetti exploded toward the fans. He then ended the fanfare with the live remix version of his explicitly racy track “Gorilla.”

Bruno Mars heads to Japan this week for performances in Osaka and Edogawa before returning to Hawaii.

I wish he'd stop touring and get back in the studio

The tour is going to end on September and I'm expecting a late december single release.... I hope he's working on some new material now when he's not doing shows and resting...

Mark Ronson is on the 3rd album again which is a good thing, I hope he doesn't do something with Timbaland or Pharrell, these guys are like everywhere especially Pharrell and it'd be nice for Bruno to not jump on the bandwagon.

And oh, a Janelle Monae collab is on my 3rd album wishlist also, that gotta happen, its funny cuz Bruno and Janelle are friends, they toured together, they've performed together in several special occasions (that Vogue event/The Grammys), they shared like 3 interviews together, they both contributed songs for the Rio 2 soundtrack apart from voice acting, its like the only thing that is missing is a song between them.

after 4 years everything literally changed

Wow. And if they were both to be interviewed by reporters today, the reporters would probably push BOB away to get to Bruno. Look at how far he's come! touched

I honestly dont expect anything new from him until 2016, MAYBE late 2015 at the earliest. Bruno has been going non-stop since 2012 creating and promoting Unorthodox Jukebox...then in June 2013 he kicked off his MJ Tour and hasnt stopped since! I dont know if he's had any motivation or inspiration to work on new material in between performing, I just get the sense he's totally focused on doing this tour and the extra shows he has scheduled in between his concerts. But then again I could be wrong and maybe he has worked on some new things? I guess we will have to wait and see. And yes, a Janelle/Bruno collaboration needs to happen. NOW.
