Weigh In: Billboard Ranks ‘Best Superbowl Half-Time Shows Ever’

247d43641b70484a3a9c41f64b5f2d45 Weigh In: Billboard Ranks Best Superbowl Half Time Shows Ever

It is quite literally the biggest show on Earth. Often playing to (present and distant) crowds of 90 million+, the SuperBowl Half-time Show is every year’s must see performance with only an elite group of pop superstar’s able to claim they’ve headlined one.

From pop’s top divas Madonna, Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, and Beyonce to pop potentates Michael Jackson and Prince, the Superbowl Half-time show has been graced by its fair share of music royals.

But, is there one that completely takes the crown for ‘best ever’? Billboard seems to think so. In great anticipation for Bruno Mars’ showing tomorrow night, the Music Bible unveiled its top Half-time shows ever. As ever, sparking quite the debate.

See the list below and weigh in?

10. Michael Jackson, 1993

9. Aerosmith, ‘N Sync & Britney Spears, 2001

8. Paul McCartney, 2005

7. Janet Jackson & Justin Timberlake, 2004

6. The Rolling Stones, 2006

5. Beyonce, 2013

4. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band

3. Madonna, 2012

2. U2, 2002

1. PRINCE, 2007

Of course Prince! Who else could it have been!!!?

Will Bruno Mars be adding his name to this prestigious list? We’ll find out tomorrow night when the ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ hitmaker takes to the Superbowl Half-Time Show live stage to perform a collection of his hits .

Do You Agree?

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Since the half-time show goes back to the 1960s, I wonder why everything is mostly 2000s. The US media always has a short term memory.

Maybe because Super Bowl Halftime shows Before-MJ were normal and nothing special, post-MJ everything was eclectic and big.

I will always remember Michael's Half-Time performance as the best, IMO. The way that the two "Michael's" appeared on top of the scoreboards was phenomenal and then the REAL Michael shot up from the stage. I had goosebumps that I have never had since during a SuperBowl performance. The message, the way that the audience participated had never been done before or since. I also notice that Michael's performance was the only one done during the DAYTIME(unless I missed something) and it STILL was awesome. I will never forget how the sports media was talking MORE about Michael's performance than the actual game and so were the players. Michael set the STANDARD for EVERYONE, and it will always be MY favorite Super Bowl of all time. Btw, I loved Beyonce performance and also enjoyed Prince's performance. However, neither of those performances affected me the way that Michael's did .

Ah, the blockbuster movie generation. lol Just because something is big and flashy does not make it better than something "normal".

Prince was good much better than the Grammy performance which still is in high ranks (the one with Beyonce) but honestly that grammy performance was just OK barely. My only problem was Prince almost doing all covers on the Superbowl, you get what 10 minutes or so and you pull out 2 covers? But whatever the rain thing is what made it, sorry, but if it didnt rain, it wouldnt have "reigned".

In Living Color changed the Half-Time Show to what it is today.

They had the guts to go head to head with the Super-Bowl. And they did so good, the NFL called on none other than the King of Pop to settle things down. It killed their show (In Living Color) but stated another (Super-Bowl Halftime Show.)

Does Billboard expect people to take this seriously? lol

I busted out laughing because of how ridiculous and pathetic this bullshit ass list is.

I can't even remember Beyonces boring ass performance. Her performance wasn't even better than Janet's or Diana Rosses.

Michael's halftime was the most iconic halftime and it was groundbreaking because it forever changed halftime performances.

While it is arguable whether or not his was the best (in my opinion he was) he definitly deserves to be ranked in the top 5.

So, according to Wikkipedia, Al Hirt was the first pop musician perforrming for a Superbowl in 1967...best known for the theme song to the Green Hornet. lol

TRUTH!

Oh and Billboard needs to update this list and put Bruno Mars on it now because um, he freakin killed it and made everyone forget about last years overhyped show. As a matter of fact they should take Bey off the list altogether cuz it really wasnt all that. Put Bruno in her spot instead cuz he freakin SLLLAAAAAAYYYYEEED and showed everyone how a real live performance is done! biggrin

She pays certain media outlets, critics, celebrities etc to give her positive reviews. Its not to taboo because alot of celebrities do it for PR. She just goes OVERBOARD with it. You should not have to pay for awards, positive reviews, nominations etc if your music and talent reflects merit but unfornately her's doesnt and she has the backing and marketing to get away with shady crap.

What you said in bolded is true. Bruno doesnt do that. The reason why Beyonce's halftime performance is so hyped as it is is because she pay good money for the hype.

Even as a non bruno fan i can appreicat what he and The chili Peppers did. Beyonces show was not horrible... but all she did was dance and had an expensive show. I don't get why people worship it lol

I love you for many many reasons but thanks for this statement. This is her entire career in a nutshell. You would think by now people would GET IT but they still fall for that make believe hype.

Honestly, I don't think her show was horrible either BUT I don't think it was good either.

It was just "okay" and quite boring. It was not groundbreaking, it was not innovative, it was not creative, it was not the greatest thing I have ever seen in my life lol
