Just listened to A Place With No Name. It's okay, but I can't help feeling it's being overhyped by the fans. Its certainly not A grade MJ marerial by any stretch.

There have been far better unreleased tracks than this, Behind The Mask, Hollywood Tonight, Abortion Papers,Much Too Soon, Al Capone, Another Day to name just a few.

Still, it's always good to hear something new.

I wish Sony had released "Place with No Name" on Michael. Since it was one of the earlier snipets released there was such a demand for it then.

The King Of Pop Met The King of Rock

MJ1

31 years ago on Nov 30 Michael’s colossal album, ‘Thriller,’ was released. Eddie Van Halen collaborated with him on the album’s third single, ‘Beat It’ and wrote and performed the guitar solo for the song.

Upon the song’s release on the radio, Eddie remembers standing in line at Tower Records when ‘Beat It’ started playing.

“The solo comes on, and I hear these kids in front of me going, ‘Listen to this guy trying to sound like Eddie Van Halen.’ I tapped him on the shoulder and said, ‘That is me!’ That was hilarious.”

Eddie reflects on his experience working with award-winning producer/songwriter Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson in the later half of 1982:

“Certain people in the band at that time didn’t like me doing things outside the group. But Roth happened to be in the Amazon or somewhere, and Mike was at Disneyland and Al was up in Canada or something, and I was home alone. So I thought, well, they’ll never know. Seriously: who’s going to know that I played on a black guy’s record? Michael said ‘I love that high fast stuff you do.’ So I played two solos over it and said, ‘You guys pick the one you want.’ It was 20 minutes out of my day. I did it for free and later everybody was telling me, you could have got a royalty point out of that record. But it didn’t matter because Quincy wrote me a letter thanking me, and he signed it ‘The Asshole.’ I framed it. Classic.”

‘Beat It’ hit the charts on 3/12/83, lasting 15 weeks and reaching #1 in the U.S. on April 30th, 1983, and #3 in the U.K. Michael’s ‘Thriller’ went on to sell more than 30 million copies.

Angelica’s Memories Of Michael

captain-eo-angelica

Angelica Huston has written her autobiography, “A Story Lately Told” and in it speaks of her dream about Michael Jackson and starring with him in the Disney film ‘Captain EO’ where she stars as a witch from a faraway planet.

Angelica writes about a dream she had before the film about being in the desert with Michael, being in love with him and an elephant stampede. She was then offered the role in ‘Captain EO.’

This is what she writes about working alongside Michael in this famous 3-D short directed by Francis Ford Coppola, produced by George Lucas, and shown at Disneyland:

“Maybe a couple of months before, I had a dream about being in the desert with Michael Jackson, madly in love, and an elephant stampede came up behind us and they put their trunks around us as we were sort of floating in midair— this very beautiful dream. So when ‘Captain EO’ came about, I suddenly realized that it was prescient.

“It was surprising because it seemed that anger was very difficult for him. He had a high voice and he was very tentative, very nervous about how he would come across. And I remember his reluctance to show anger or anything violent.

“I think the whole thing took about three weeks to shoot. It was a short film about Michael Jackson coming to my ugly hideous planet. I play, of course, a grand high witch. … This was solidly in my witch period where I seemed to play every witch on the planet. But he comes to my planet and I’m cruel and evil, he sings to me and transforms my world. As it happened, [Michael] had a little retinue of space creatures, and one happened to be a green elephant, which only confirmed the prescience of my dream.

“I had extensive makeup, a lot of prosthetics, it took about seven hours to put on all my prosthetics every morning. … When the camera turned around on Michael, he asked that I still be in makeup even though I was off camera. I was initially a bit irritated by that because it took so long and I knew that I wouldn’t be on camera. But I did it and I remember from the moment he started to sing, I was sort of overwhelmed, I’d never seen a transformation like that. The power of his voice, the incredible sort of electricity that surrounded him when he began to sing was astonishing. And all of the inhibitions that he seemed to have as a person disappeared and he became this dynamic and extraordinary force.

Michael was a genius at what he did and capable of practically anything on stage. I think he was extraordinary.”

You can read the more of her story here.

Michael Jackson's family to seek new trial in wrongful death lawsuit

http://ca.movies.yahoo.co...39691.html

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The family of late singer Michael Jackson has filed court documents indicating they plan to seek a new trial in a wrongful death lawsuit against concert promoter AEG, after a Los Angeles jury cleared the company of liability in October.

Attorneys for Jackson's mother Katherine, 83, and his three children filed court documents in citing misconduct of the jury and insufficient evidence among the reasons for the pending request for a new trial.

Anyone know this guy's name? I think he was a dancer for Michael Jackson or Janet Jackson. I first thought I saw him in the 'This Is It' movie but I'm not sure...

That demo is off the hook. One thing i hate though is the background singing voices.. same reason why i couldn't really get into the Invincible album (same era). I'm not sure and i'm not a music exert but Michael used to do the background voices by himself right? And his choruses were always funky and mesmerizing.. leave me alone, smooth criminal, tabloid junkie, .. i don't like hearing other background singers on his songs (invincible album), takes away some of the magic for me.

Really? I love the choruses. One of the reasons I love this song so much. To me, they are incredible. I love MJ's singing style on this in general. And I love the fact that he's singing it with his lower voice which he rarely used in music and which is sooooooooooooo sexy.

New This is It footage, yeh its only about 12 seconds but still..

when i see things like this i wish they would just release more and more of the This is It footage.

I know the Estate wants to make money, and righfully so, they paid a lot of money for the rights to the material. But can't they see how special this is to core fans. i could watch hours upon hours of candid this is it footage like this. It makes me happy. I hope one day that more is released.

"A Place With No Name" sounded very promising based on the snippet that's been around for a couple years. I too was very excited to hear the whole thing. Upon hearing the full version, I think it's decent. I love Michael's voice as always but he has better unreleased tracks. I much prefer the original version of "A Plce With No Name" but I do like MJ's reworking of it. It's not terrible at all nor is it amazing to me. It's good though. I like it well enough.

I believe the background vocals are Dr. Freeze (and MJ), the same producer who co-wrote, co-produced and performed on Break of Dawn and Blue Gangsta. I think his backing vocals pair super-well with MJ's. This guy understood MJ's sound. I wish he had produced a whole album with MJ.

This song is great. Killer vocals.

So agree with this. The MJ (and JJ) background vocals are legendary in my eyes, and there's something about the tone of whoever is singing with him during this era that isn't right. It's muddled and throaty where it needs to be bright and forward like Mike's.

I don't think they sound really super-well, more good but unnecessary imo.

Mj killer vocals as usual.

Also reason why You Rock My World is my favourite track of the album. Also think that Heaven Can Wait would have sounded SO much better if it was all MJ singing the background.

"Invincible" contains some of MJ's best ballads ever. Actually I think that album had some of the best ballads he did in years. Very well crafted r&b songs on there. I think some of those songs on that album were geared towards fans of his r&b/soul sound. "Heaven Can Wait", "Break of Dawn" and "Butterflies" are excellent songs and so beautifully sung by MJ.

very true

songs 4-7 (Break of Dawn, Heaven Can Wait, Butterflies, and You Rock My World) were the album's centerpiece

Break of Dawn is one of the greatest vocal performances he ever did

should have been released as a single, it had #1 written all over it
