Let Bruno be himself....that's the way I like him.

We don't need a next Prince, the old one is still in good shape, lol

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

i don't like saying he's the next prince, it's not a good idea to go down that road on the org. people are going to tear bruno apart. bruno is very talented on his own, let's not compare him to prince or anyone else. biggrin

Ahhh man how many threads has there been on this? lol NO

Prince is Prince, Bruno is Bruno.

And i love the following artists but they aren't the next Prince either. But, at some time have been compared to him. Every year or few years a new person is said to be the new Prince.

Jack White is not the next Prince
Kanye West is not the next prince
Beck is not the next prince
Lenny Kravitz is not the next prince
D'angelo is not the next prince
Van Hunt is not the next prince
Miguel is not the next prince

Drake is not the next prince.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Ok, Ok, I get it!

There is only one Prince (like Alicia Keys stated in his induction)

However, there are so many similarities between Prince and Bruno that it is undeniable

I just wanted to hear from folks who can relate to what i'm saying.....

and maybe list some of those similarities.....

Is that better?

No one loves my Man more than i do!

No one......................

THIS. Bruno is Bruno. Prince is Prince. Aint no "next ____", let artists be recognized for their own unique talents and contributions, its not good to compare them to someone else.

Also I swear a thread with this very same title was posted here last year lol

No he is not the next Prince. Bruno's music is fine, he's a fine musician and he is the first Bruno Mars, he is the first one to wear a fedora all the time and get funky on stage with 8 backup dancers & musicians on the 2010s just like Prince was the first Prince and the first one to go crazy with his band playing every instrument and doing literally every genre of music in the 80s, they are both artists of their own.

Imagine if this is 1979 and somebody says Is Prince the Next James Brown or the next somebody! All JB fans will be pissed off about that and say that he isn't, but lookee here, Prince is now one of the most important figures in music history as well as JB. Same goes for Bruno, you never know, he may end up as a rock & roll hall of famer, or people will be so influenced by his style later. You just can't tell.

Concerning similarities, a few things Bruno shares with Prince but that doesn't make him any less or more close to him:

The height, both are short.

Mixed skin color.

Both have a band.

Both play guitar, drums, piano, keyboards. (Don't start with the "Can Bruno shred like Prince" All I'm saying is he PLAYS the instrument)

THAT'S IT.

I didn't say there are endless similarities - you did.

And yet all you can list is only one.

I don't think music historians will view him as an important figure. His cliched songwriting is what passes for clever wordplay today.

Bruno works as a group with his co-producers on everything he does, Prince has from the get-go tried to be as autonomous as possible, so I think any comparison is going to fall short. We don't know what these early days of Mars's career would be like if it were only him calling the shots.

Change it one more time..

when you watch the superbowl performance you will see MJ and James Brown influences a lot more than Prince (love Bruno though and I hope he has a great future)

and when you see RHCP you will see Parliament Funkadelic & Faith No More but with way less talent

a couple more I might add:

Both wrote hit songs for other atrists

Both are very demanding of his band

(by no means can Bruno shred like Prince)

Bruno Mars, to me, sounds like he's trying to be Michael Jackson waaay more than Prince. Also, Bruno Mars is a piss-poor lyricist. Every time I hear one of his songs on the radio I get embarrassed listening to it because of the awful lyrics, even if no one else is around.

If he write better lyrics i might like him a little. But, his lyrics make me cringe confused there horrible and cheesy as fuck. And Grenade is one of the WORST written songs i have ever heard on top 40 radio omfg omg

I see your point gun.

But between me and you I don't think Grenade is THAT BAD, it's not even bad, you can't say it's the worst written song on Top 40 when you have Ke$ha, Pitbull, Katy Perry and others. Grenade is a song with a melodrama type of feel inside of it, the melody and lyrics are depressing and show the other side of love, I understand that the "catching a grenade for a girl" metaphor might sound silly but it's just the way Bruno expresses his feelings inside, besides, the first verse and the second one are normal lyrics, the chorus is the one who got people saying Bruno's lyrics are cheesy and stuff.

I even agree that it pisses me off sometimes when he screams "But darling I'd still catch a grenade for ya", I always say that's awkward love but then I realize she's his passion, we all been there once, loving a girl and tried to do anything for her and even if she never gave a crap we still love her.

Other than this, even if I'm a big stan of Bruno, Gorilla would have been a killer song because the production, the drums and the vocals were so perfect but the main subject is just so lame and unbearable.

Not this again! I'm just gonna quote myself:

sad I don't like this... at all. So I'll say this only once cool imo:

  • Bruno Mars is not the new Prince
  • D'Angelo is not the new Prince
  • Jamie Lidell is not the new Prince
  • any other person I didn't mention: not the new Prince

Every time Prince decides to 'reinvent' himself, you get 'the new Prince' - and that's it.

I admire your passion for him Shawy. And your POV of the lyrics. But, i know too many guys like that. Who are obsessed with girls and say all the ''crazy things'' they would do for her.

I heard that song written too many times in my middle and high school. By white guys with accoustic guitars eek bad memories lol

He can be the Next Bruno Mars; the guy who develops and grows with time. That's all he needs to be.
