Anyone know what the deal is with the single-disc "Special Edition" of HIStory?
http://www.youtube.com/wa...Cm3mm2j4w8
There's a very recent review on Amazon in which a customer says they were surprised to receive the single-disc of HIStory continues shown in the unboxing video above.
I can't find any information on this version of the album, so I figured some of the experts in this thread may be able to point me in the right direction. [Edited 1/2/14 23:57pm] I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

Michael Jackson, Inc: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of a Billion-Dollar Empire will be released on June 3rd, 2014.
Michael Jackson, Inc. reveals the incredible rise, fall, and rise again of Michael Jackson’s fortune — driven by the unmatched perfectionism of the King of Pop. Forbes senior editor Zack O’Malley Greenburg uncovers never-before-told stories from interviews with more than 100 people, including music industry veterans Berry Gordy, John Branca, and Walter Yetnikoff; artists 50 Cent, Sheryl Crow, and Jon Bon Jovi; and members of the Jackson family. Other insights come from court documents and Jackson’s private notes, some of them previously unpublished. Through Greenburg’s novelistic telling, a clear picture emerges of Jackson’s early years, his rise to international superstardom, his decline—fueled by demons internal and external, as well as the dissolution of the team that helped him execute his best business moves—and, finally, his financial life after death. Underlying Jackson’s unique history is the complex but universal tale of the effects of wealth and fame on the human psyche. A valuable case study for generations of entertainers to come and for anyone interested in show business, Michael Jackson, Inc. tells the story of a man whose financial feats, once obscured by his late-life travails, have become an enduring legacy. For updates — including news about the book and links to Zack’s Forbes stories on the King of Pop — add your email address below. And be sure to check out his Forbes.com post on wh... the book. looking back on it all
I believe this moment marks the very apex of the recording industry
the absolute shining moment
before the industry would begin to decline
and I realize now there is a huge difference between
the RECORDING INDUSTRY and THE MUSIC INDUSTRY and it just hit me just now
the spirit always talks
I'll never forget the day every single major radio station in the country
played WE ARE THE WORLD at the same time
It was awesome being able to witness that

Lady Gaga To Open Michael Jackson Museum?[img:$uid]http://vallieegirl67.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/56645755.jpg?w=593&h=445[/img:$uid]
Lady Gaga is creating her own tourist hotspot by opening a base to showcase the £1.25million worth of Jackson’s stuff she owns.
Gaga, 27, is currently seeking the backing off the estate of MJ and his kids, but is already looking for a location for the treasury.
In 2012 the singer bought 55 items from an auction of the late Bad megastar’s possessions.
Gaga now owns his famous Thriller jacket as well as a white Swarovski crystal encrusted glove (that set her back £117,800) which you’ll all soon be able to go and see.
I’m told: “Gaga is a huge Michael fan, and she feels that there needs to be a real museum to celebrate his life
“She has been stocking up on items from all over the world. Some of her purchases have been under different names so that she is not overpaying for artifacts. But now she has a few pieces she is planning out the next stage of where the location for the museum should be.
“She’s considering Gary, Indiana where Jackson started his career, her hometown NYC or Los Angeles, close to his Neverland home.”
Lawyers for the estate of Michael Jackson own the rights to his music and image, so Gaga needs to get them on board if she is to make a go of things.
But she’s going the right way about it and is keeping his clobber “pristine” in a temperature controlled environment.
Gaga says: “I will put together a museum and put the money to a foundation he cares about.
“The reason I bought Michael’s clothes was because my tour clothes mean more to me than anything, my awards, records. I believe they carry the energy and memories of the night.
“With Michael’s clothes being sold when he was not here made me feel really uncomfortable, upset and I don’t why. I take care of them – they are in the right temperature
She has also said of her decision to buy the collection: “I believe that the fans’ energy gets stuck in the clothes. I wanted to preserve that for him.”

Let's be honest: Off the Wall, in my opinion, is better than Thriller...
My favorite MJ Albums, in order from favorite to least favorite (they all, for the most part are good though)
1. Dangerous- No track is weak, except maybe Heal the World, but hey, its for a good cause 2. Off the Wall- MJs funkiest, jazziest, most soulfull album- a couple aged songs, but other than that, criminally underrated by some 3. HIStory- Many great songs, and my childhood album, other than Dangerous 4. Thriller- Billie Jean, Beat it, The Lady in My life, Baby be mine are good... the rest are overrated. Thriller never stood out as a good song to me, and MANY of the outtakes are awesome 5. Invincible- Great tracks, and some good tracks.... a couple of tracks 6. Bad- let's face it, this one has aged horribly. Man in the Mirror, SMooth Criminal and TWYMMF are the good ones, the outtakes are awesome! Streetwalker SHOULD have been included 7. Blood on the Dance Floor- songs are good, but i never counted this one as a full fledged album, so thats why it is at the bottom
[not counting anything posthumous]
SPeaking of which, has anybody else heard the rumor of the Spring 2014 2nd posthumous MJ album that Timbaland and some producers that formerly worked with MJ are working on. All the tracks apparently will have their original mix, and then a new mix to go with it... not sure how true this is, but I've heard this from a couple sources.... Place With No Name in its full, original mix leaking might prove this idea

YES, YES AND YES! One of my fav Jacksons songs! This is also one of my fav performance of this era, I stan for this mans voice, so beautiful and perfect! When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix

. That's my fave MJ album as well! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

Who Is It, Give Into Me, Can't Let Her Get Away, Black or White... what a diverse album! Maybe because Dangerous was a childhood favorite of mine is the reason I love it so much, but musically, it's awesome too! This is where MJ put a little more of his creative imput as well. The New JAck style on this album doesn't bother me to this day, and its just a great album! Even though Michael spent the rest of his career post-Thriller to top Thriller, this is the closest he got comercially, and critically... but in my opinion, it is better than Thriller!

Agree with most of the things you've said but you need you're head examined if you think Startin' Somethin' and especially Human Nature are over rated!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I can't believe I forgot about Human Nature! That is one I forgot to mention as one of my favorites Wanna Be Startin' SOmething is a nice little funky track, but I tend to only dig the "to high to get over, too low to get under......" and "mama say mamasa mamakusa" parts. I honestly dont see how Thriller is a good song (Vincent Price and the music video are my only pros), The Girl Is Mine is a little..... cheesy. PYT is actually good, but its never one that i want to listen to solely.

Ok, my view on Michael Jackson 7 cd's: 2. Thriller, masterpiece (only, I skip: the Lady In My Life -- sorry, too soft a song for my taste! -- and The Girl Is Mine, the rest is pure dope though). 3. Off The Wall, masterpiece #3 (the title track and the 2 first singles are my fave tracks - I skip She's Out Of My Life, the rest is great, amazing album). 4. HIStory (From the new material -cd 2- I only like the big singles: Scream, They Don't Care About Us, Stranger In Moscow, Earth Song & You Are Not Alone, yes, I skip the rest, to me they sounds like fillers). 5. Dangerous (Most songs are great, BUT these I skip/ fillers: She Drives Me Wild, Can't Let Her Get Away, Keep The Faith, Gone Too Soon) Prince 4Ever.

What I never understood is how Speed Demon made the cut, but Streetwalker didn't. Streetwalker is one of MJs best tracks!

I had a friend who felt that the only good song on Bad was "Speed Demon".
Taste is such a personal thing ! To All the Haters on the Internet

Yeah, it's pretty stunning. Streetwalker is far and away one of MJ's best songs, and would've been the best song on Bad had it made the cut, IMO. I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

It's impossible to pick my favorite albums in order. I could probably do better with singles, but even that would be arduous. He was just so consistently good, just like Prince. For me, Dangerous is number one hands down. I played that album back to back for DAYS straight, no rest, all night, all day. Heal The World IMO, didn't need to be there but I know that that was his thing. But one Heal The World type song that should have been on Dangerous instead, was Earth Song. Could you even imagine? Just the thought blows me away. Anyhow, I was 17 when the album came out, my work friends knowing that I was a HUGE fan, gave it to me for Christmas. I wanted to buy it on the release day, but they kept making up urgent excuses as to why I shouldn't go to the record store to get it MYSELF. Oh, and when they presented it to me, they put it in a gift bag with lots of black and white colored items, like exclamation perfume, etc. Like I said, when I finally heard it I was addicted, couldn't be torn away! Eventually, my mother came into my bedroom (the music was super loud). She told me that if I didn't give it a break that she would "fuckin' rip it in half!". I was confused like a deer in headlights, lol! How was she not groovin' to this? How could she have had enough? After that, I played it at a lower volume...still nonstop. I created story boards to songs with no videos as I saw them appear in my mind. I was obsessed. What does this or that lyric mean? I was worried about his working with Teddy, but they made an amazing album. Although with Quincy, Michael actually sang. On Dangerous, his vocals were surprisingly raw, but I think that that coupled with the subject matter made it truly impeccable.

NaughtyKitty said: I love seeing pictures around this time of Michael & Diana. He always beamed in her presence. Unfortunately, as flirtatious as she was, she wasn't that into him. Too bad. No, on second thought, no. Not too bad. It would only give me reason to envy Tracee Ellis Ross even further (and Im typically not an envious person). I adore her mother, she is so awesome... But to have Michael as a father too???? No one deserves to be THAT lucky. I would say the only exception is being Michaels wife, but that never worked out well for him so, there's that.

Lupita Nyong'o: Michael Jackson's "Childlike Quality" Inspired 12 Years a Slave Character
[img:$uid]http://www.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/2014012/rs_293x473-140112223546-634.LupitaNyongo-gg.cm.11214_copy.jpg[/img:$uid]
Lupita Nyong'o has been racking up award nominations—and will surely add a notice from Oscar to that tally later this week—for her heartbreaking performance as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave. Thanks, in part, to Michael Jackson? "There's something very Michael Jackson-like about Patsey—the childlike quality he always had," Nyong'o says in the February issue of Dazed and Confused, which also features her on the cover, talking about how she went about playing that very difficult role. "She had her childhood stripped away from her suddenly as soon as she became of sexual age."
(Meanwhile, search and you'll find a number of online discussions about film characters, from Willy Wonka to Edward Scissorhands, who seem reminiscent of the late King of Pop.)

It is.... Most of the Post Thriller albums are better than Thriller and even BAD but I adore all his albums though. I never understood why people always say OTW, Thriller and BAD are his ONLY best albums when they are not. Nice commentary on the albums by the way [Edited 1/15/14 7:41am]

1. HIStory (MJ's most mature album, an absolute masterpiece, TDCAU, Earth Song, Little Susie, History, Scream, Smile - all incredible songs... the only dud is Come Together)
2. Dangerous (Who Is It is MJ's all time greatest song IMO. The rest of the album is pretty dope also)
3. Bad (a great pop album start to finish, not as much depth as his 90s work though)
4. Invincible (thoroughly underrated, not his strongest by a long stretch, but YRMW, Unbreakable, Heaven Can Wait, Speechless and The Lost Children are all vintage MJ. Let down by an uneven second half)
5. Thriller (Killer singles, so-so album tracks)
6. Off The Wall (A great album start to finish, minus Girlfriend, but probably my least listened to MJ album, you kinda have to be in the mood for it)
7. Blood On The Dancefloor (title track, Morphine, Ghosts and Is It Scary are all killer tracks, the remixes - meh)
