WTF is this guy talking about? I haven't been following mainstream music for more than a few years now sio admittedly I am out of the loop. What exactley is Kanye's impact? I really don't know, he's just a name to me. What is his music\message doing for society? Seriously...
It's hard to take anyone seriously these days when they talk about how famous they are. The mass media is dead compared to what it was in the 90's, the internet has totally changed it. You're not known to everybody just because your a mainstream star these days. The mainstream is much smaller now, You could be on TV\radio every second of every day and these days there'll stlll be tons of people who don't know wo the fuck you are. The whole damn world is getting clique\tribe'ified. It's a blow to the Narcissists, you can't aim to be the 'biggest thing in the world' anymore cause the average person just isn't hooked up a to pop culture I.V. like they used to be.
Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

But I still think he's getting a kick out of himself being in the news and apart of "pop culture" like he constantly talks about. Truth is, he was flattered by Jimmy Kimmel's skit, just like he was flattered by Seth Rogen and James Franco parody of his video. This only adds fuel to his egotistical fire. He's that kid the teacher said "don't encourage him class." THIS! ..

Yup! I forgot to mention how obviously uncomfortable it was for Ye to acknowledge Drake being hotter than him right now. That was funny and painful to watch. He hated that with a passion
Drake has a new business partner -- MICHAEL JORDAN -- 'cause the rapper just announced he signed a new shoe deal with Nike and MJ ... and he's fired up about it.
Drake made the announcement during a concert last night in Portland -- which also happens to be where Nike's headquarters are located.
During the show, Drake said, "Today I came to Portland, and I officially became inducted into the Team Jordan family." Drake said it was one of the best days of his life.
The rapper then posted a shot of his special OVO Air Jordans to his Instagram page -- it's unclear when they'll hit the market.
The move comes in the wake of Kanye West revealing that he recently pulled out of a deal with Nike because they wouldn't give him royalties on his shoes.
So far, the terms of Drake's deal with the swoosh have not been released.

Steam is coming out of his ears right about now. Then comes the tears, "Why Jordan wouldn't do a deal with meeee?" You don't get a sneaker endorsement any bigger than the Jordan series. That's huge potential for Toronto's own. Congrats to Drake for playing his cards close to his vest while Ye was making a fool out of himself around the country in these interviews. You know this deal was in the making for awhile, which is why Nike wasn't sweating about losing Ye.

It's clear he's lost the plot. Dude even told another interview about how he felt he was making history by having sex with an Armenian woman. It's like "you know HOW MANY brothers have dated THAT Armenian woman?"
Is it just me or was he sort of all over the place and erratic? Every interview that I have seen of him he ends up making about as much sense as Sarah Palin.
The funniest part was him complaining about Obama...you would think the prez sent a drone after him or something,
I was more than a little shocked that he couldn't freestyle when dude put him on the spot.
Yeah, there's something going on with the guy. He seems to have a lot of frustration and, to me, there seems to be an unhealthy sense of entitlement in there that's not doing him any favours. He's keen to present that as a valiant struggle against collective disentitlement, but I don't really buy the idea that Kanye getting a lucrative contract to design clothes is good for anyone but Kanye, just as I don't buy the notion that Jay-Z's presence is charity. The slavery metaphor was stretched a bit thin when Prince was using it to protest his multi-million-dollar recording contract, but it's surely beyond breaking point when it's applied by a millionaire rapper/producer/fashionista to a grumble that his dabblings in another creative industry have not been lauded as epoch-changing art!
Perhaps that's too harsh. There's obviously something that's been historically important and inspirational about Black talent succeeding against the obstacles - particularly in domains where that wasn't expected or allowed. But, increasingly, I interpret that framing of things by entertainers who are bona fide members of 'the 1%' - and enjoy a lifestyle that goes with that - as a self-serving way of adding some lofty meaning to what is, essentially, their amassing of considerable private wealth and privilege, which does little to change the structures that mean certain groups of people are systematically held back.
P.S. I interpreted the freestyle bit as him being a bit awkward and kind of half-refusing to comply with the request, whilst half going along with it. But maybe his brain's so filled with genius colour palettes and new Yeezys he's forgotten the basics!

If you've not read it already, you may be interested in blogger Jessica Anne Mitchell's take on Kanye. She echoes some of what you suggest here... through the lens of Frantz Fanon, no less.
Can you imagine Kanye now after reading about how much Beyonce will sell with her album while his went double aluminum? (Okay it's gold but it's his worst selling record to date lol)
