I seriously rate this as the best song of the last decade.

Never let yourself be seen by anyone we know;
I'll comfort you before I leave, but, baby, I don't wanna go...

Never thought you would hurt me, leave me down so low;
Here comes the grand finale - baby, don't you wanna go...

Back to the sound of the music, back to the moment I asked your hand,
Before we let each other go at the start of the romance...?
Back to sound of the music, back to the moment I asked your hand;
Where do the lovers go at the end of a slow dance?

Tell me how it made you feel to give my love away,
To give him what he'd have to steal on any other day...

It meant nothing, so you say, and you've got nothing to show
But offer me a big cliche that only makes it worse...

Back to the sound of the music, back to the moment I asked your hand,
Before we let each other go at the start of the romance...
Back to sound of the music, back to the moment I asked your hand;
Where do the lovers go at the end of a slow dance?

Can we fall in love again?
Once we fall down...
Can we find the innocence?
Once we fall down...
Can we fall in love again?
Once we fall down...
Can we find the beginning?

Back to the sound of the music, back to the moment I asked your hand,
Before we let each other go at the start of the romance...
Back to sound of the music, back to the moment I asked your hand;
Where do the lovers go at the end of a slow dance?

This song doesn't do as much for me as "The Thrill of This Love," for example. But I love it when others are truly moved by a work. Glad you dig it so much, Matty. What about it speaks to you so?

I love everything about it, the way it mixes rock and 80s synth pop, the odd vocal delivery, the lyrics... it's just insanely catchy.

Although, it wouldn't be my personal pick (song-wise), I would rate this one of the best albums of the last decade smile

If you will, so will I

Love this CD...I really, really LOVE Character, Hot Stage Lights and Mean Sleep...moreso than At The End Of A Slow Dance.It is a really good song though.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I'd rate On The Jungle Floor as one of the best albums of the last 10 years. "ATEOASD" is a really good song, I just prefer "Being A Girl," which for my money is the standout track.

Having me a bit of a moment here... Listening to the alternate version of this song caught me totally unawares. I was defenseless against the emotional onslaught. I liked the album version too, but the alternate version gripped me HARD. The lyrics are lovely and so sad but it really was the music, the way in which he was singing--the incredibly plaintive melody--that broke me down.

.

Thanks Van Hunt, for getting me all farklempt. (Who gave you the right.)

.

There's only about four other songs in my life that have ever made me cry:

1. "Girl" - Prince (Not a sad song but the key change caught me off guard once)

2. Piano version of "Little Red Corvette" - Prince (from SOTT movie)

3. "Somewhere Here On Earth" - Prince (waterworks start almost everytime I hear the last minute of the song)

4. "Choose" - Color Me Badd

.

AMAZING song. Holy Moses that's powerful. I gotta go shake this off.

Then I'll come back and listen to it some more. cool

Damn. This is gorgeous. Thank you for posting.

Yeah, "The Thrill of this Love" was my favorite from this album, too. One of my Top Five Van Hunt tunes, actually...

I like Daredevil Baby more because of it's subtle emotion.
