I'm pretty sure in the credits Taja was the one credited for the song, not Teddy.
But it was obviously Teddy because it sounded like "No Diggity" part 2 |

I thought it was an alias.

How did his daughter receive credit for a song she didn't co-author? I find the whole thing rather puzzling.

In the mid 1970's, James Brown sometimes put his daughters name (who were under 10 years old at the time) on his songs to get around the publishing companies and/or taxman. In the old days it wasn't uncommon for people that had nothing to do with writing songs (ie. managers, record company heads, mafia guys, singers, etc.) add their names to the credits. Many of the Lennon/McCartney songs were written separately, but they made an agreement to credit both. Some writers might co-write but leave their names off of songs (or use a fake name) because they don't want to be known, or if credited they might be sued because they're under a contract with another company. The Cadillacs' manager Esther Navarro registered the songs the members wrote under her name only, as she was ripping them off. People have added family members or friends to credits to help them out financially. Then there's ghostwriters who work for a salary/fee who are not credited at all and 'songwriters for hire' who might be credited but don't get royalties as the songs are owned by another party (publisher/record label). It doesn't really matter who did or didn't actually write songs, but who is registered at the copyright office. [Edited 11/3/13 15:19pm] You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It's almost 4 years later... why did he wait so long? Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

i think in the "normal" processes of the industry, it would take that long for the royalties to actually pay out if there was an intention to pay him, so after the 4 year mark, he's out to get his share. i ain't even mad, madonna 2.0 is PAID, so cough up the loot!

He has a legitimate gripe as his name was omitted from credit for that song at the U.S. Copyright office.

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman
