Chris Brown the monster; R.Kelly the hero People who berate Chris Brown, but celebrate R. Kelly are an interesting bunch.
Chris Brown submitted Rihanna to a violent beating in 2009. He turned himself in, went to court, and did his time (not jailtime, but he served something). People, to this day, still harrass him. Whether he seems to be sorry for it, or not, people use him as personal dumping ground to unleash their hate and frustrations on. One woman had, personally, harrassed him on Twitter and when he lashed out on her. Someone likened his angry and frustrated tweets to verbal rape.
Yet, R.Kelly is walking around free as a bird. He's been featured on Lady Gaga's new album, invited to concerts, featured on numerous venues, selling albums, winning awards. No big protests. No music journalist mentioning anything about the trial or numerous other allegations. No one makes a peep about many of the young victims that lie in his wake. The many teenage girls whom he: raped; forced abortions on that he, personally, paid for; coereced into have sex with one another. Excuse me...I mean the BLACK teenage girls that he's done this to.
Maybe that's what all the silence is about? Is it because his victims were young black females? Young black females aren't seen as victims...in fact most women of color aren't seen as victims, but rather willing participants. They aren't given the same 'innocent virgin label" as white women. The New York Times once blamed a black 11 year victim for being raped. A judge, recently, gave a teacher only 30 days in jail, because he felt that the latina victim, 14 at the time, was a willing participant. Even after she killed herself before the trial ever went to court. If this mindset is true, then could this be the reason why people, even black men and women could rally behind and support a known pedophile? Would these people do the same had his victims been white girls ages 12 and up?
A pedophile that has been known to prey on young black girls and sued over and over and over again, by them. Their only option is to settle as true justice is naught but a dream. I, too, did not understand the serverity of R.Kelly's crimes and how little care people gave to young victims of color. We rationalize it by calling them: whores, willing and able, easy, fast, and etc. When we call them that then they can't be victims...because the willing can't be victims. We don't afford them the victim label. It's their fault for what happened to them.
So as I see people, even here, line up in support of R.Kelly, all willing to give their money to this criminal all while so eager to boycott and berate Chris Brown I have to wonder...why? Why? Are you willing to forgive R.Kelly's PROVEN crimes in order to pay for a couple of 3-4 minute songs? Are you willing to turn a blind eye to all of his victims in order to give him your hard earned money to contribute to his funds. Funds that will end up paying off more victims who are desperate to seek justice? All while cursing the ground that Chris Brown walks on. Cursing his very existance.
Well, you know what? Rather than run away from justice as so many guilty men did before him, Chris Brown turned himself in. Meanwhile R.Kelly is still out there, roaming the streets...always on the look out for new victims, because of your continued financial support. He won't receive mine though. If I feel the need to listen to his music, I'll be pirating it.

I will say that I find it interesting that I can listen to R. Kelly like nothing happened, but I can't listen to Chris at all these days. I blame it on me growing up on R. Kelly music. I was a huge fan of chris when he first came out (i'm 26 now) so I guess I was more invested in him. R. Kelly music (older music) is just too good to ignore I guess, but it doesn't make it right. Regardless Chris still has a lot of growing up to do, I hate when people baby him and his situation.

But you're still listening to his music either way right? so, whether or not you ''support'' him by buying his music. You're still supporting his music by listening, or putting it on your ipoid, or burning it to your cd. It's not that hard to ignore @ R. Kelly. Both of them don't deserve any type of play. It's unlikely Chris Brown will go away any time.

Well, the thing about it is that both remain hugely popular despite their personal/legal troubles. I don't respect nor like the music of either of them one over the other. They both are putting out sucky music at the moment so I listen to neither. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

For some people it's harder with R. Kelly because most of his music was based on sex and every time I think about songs he did in his career and the stuff he did with Aaliyah. I mean her first album was his production and he gave it the title ("Age Ain't Nothing But a Number").

everything is right about this post..I personally can't stand both..but yeah one's treated like a monster while the other has been praised a lot recently like nothing happened before p.s you forgot that r.kelly just worked with bruno mars as well in the remix version of his last single I think gorilla..

I think it has a lot to do with longevity and talent. Doesn't make it right, but I think that's why you see the divide in the way they are percieved.

People are never going to let the r Kelly fiasco go. Did you guys read what happened on his twitter feed? Fuck them both. They are both pieces of garbage.

Grew up on r Kelly in the 90s and early 00s, what a damn shame he has a penis for a brain. Till this day I'm still disgusted with the verdict. How could he get away with the tape with all that child porn found in one of the raids? He simply took advantage of young girls and what they go through, pervert!

Once people start doing illegal shit, I'm out. I don't care if someone cheated on their spouse or did drugs because that's them fucking themselves up but when you talk about beating the shit out of someone or Fucking underage girls there is just no way for me to reconcile that. Plus I didn't like Chris brown before this. In my opinion he can't sing so there is no internal struggle with hypocrisy like there may be other artists you named Guns.

I saw it last night. What's even more hilarious is the big blowout on Facebook with Roland Martin's article on R.Kelly's legal troubles. Surprisingly there were a lot of people who are disgusted by him getting a pass and being hailed as a musical hero while his supporters made every excuse in the book for him like Let God be his judge, this so and so artist made mistakes and why is this coming up now that he released a new album. Hell he's released 2 albums in the last 3 years before this one and it didn't come up so how in the hell it's a conspiracy against him now. I think the most telling statement from the people who thinks this guy is a slug to his supporters is yes you're gonna give him a pass because he makes records that make you horny and dance but you're not gonna care unless someone molests your child. Don't laugh at my funk

He married an underage girl, a minor.
If the allegations are true and he did have sex with that minor in the video, he is way more disgusting to me than Chris Brown.
She knew what she was doing? Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit.

They should ask these people if they would knowingly let Kells sleep with their minor daughters.

i have never liked r. kelly or chris brown's music. back in the 90's everyone around me seemed to be going nuts over r kelly's music, and i never could get into it. be kind, be a friend, not a bully.

IKR? It reminds me when MJ was being accused often of molestation and people defended that and then when asked "will you let YOUR child sleep with him?" And they all gave the same type of answer. Either "I'll break his fucking jaw if he ever tried" or "hell nah". I doubt they'll let R. Kelly have free range with their young daughters. Remember when George and Regina Daniels said "oh no he couldn't have possibly done it", then it turns out R. Kelly was sleeping with THEIR teen daughter and all of a sudden they realized R. Kelly's perversion wasn't no act but they were so happy to let R. Kelly use them as pawns in his music videos. Guess that's what happens when you're not looking. Fuck R. Kelly and fuck Chris Brown.

It's sad smh. I will say R. Kelly is the only suspect one music that I do like. Well his old music, his new stuff no comment. Not defending him at all, but I would be lying if I said I didn't like his old music. I just feel it's hard to get on people for listening to someone when they are also listening to an artist that is fucked up as well.

I'm just now reading that. But why did he turn around and do the same thing years later? Just... he should've gotten therapy. I honestly can't say I feel sympathy for him though.
