If you want to read Reed in a less combative interview (admittedly conducted by an interviewer who nearly worships the man), here's one from 1992, with Neil Gaiman, originally published in Reflex:

Laurie Anderson has written and published a brief obit for her husband, Lou Reed, in The East Hampton Star. The full text of what she wrote is below, but she notes that Reed had been in the hospital recently, but came home toward the end of his life. He spent his last days enjoying his surroundings, and died Sunday while lying in bed doing Tai Chi. He was 71.

Laurie Anderson, Pays Homage to Lou In the wake of Lou Reed's death this past Sunday, stars from across the musical spectrum came forward with a variety of heartfelt tributes to the influential and acclaimed rocker. Now, Reed's wife, avant-garde musician Laurie Anderson, has published a letter in the obituary section of New York newspaper The East Hampton Star that reveals some details about Lou's last days.
Lastly, Anderson describes her husband as "a prince and a fighter," adding, "I know his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill many people with the incredible joy he felt for life. Long live the beauty that comes down and through and onto all of us."
For Lou Reed

What can I say? If he died in beautiful surroundings with loved ones around him, there's really nothing more you can wish for. [Edited 11/1/13 14:37pm]

well, we'll always have Lulu yes, I'm one of the few individuals who actually liked that record, it was Lou finally releasing a metal album; and James Hetzfield's pathetic post-80s vocals are nowhere to be heard so that's a BIG PLUS...

Lou Reed Willed His Estate to His Wife and SisterYou can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Maybe it's appropriate enough to laugh at it at this point - I love the word choice, "had no known children".

This is nice. Maybe I'll finally forgive Rolling Stone for not putting Joey Ramone on the cover when he died.

Morrissey has had a lot on his mind these days, with his autobiography Morrissey due out in December in the U.S. and the death last month of Lou Reed. Now he's melding those two. In conjunction with the audio book of Morrissey, he's releasing a digital and seven-inch version of him covering Reed's classic song "Satellite of Love." The version was captured at the Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas on November 25th, 2011. There will be other live tracks to round out the mini set, but those are still unknown at the time. The digital release is set for November 29th, with the 12-inch version due on December 2nd.
Morrissey's last offiical release was 2009's Swords, although a greatest hits compilation, The Best of Morrissey, came out in 2011. He's been touring over the past few years, but health concerns prompted him to cancel a number of gigs. Earlier this year, he successfull got L.A.'s Staple Center to stop serving meat the night of his concert. Last month, he opened up about his sexuality, declaring that he's not homosexual, but in fact "humasexual." Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!
