The Singer Performing Next Year's Superbowl Halftime Show Is......

THIS GUY!!! woot! woot! woot!

It was suggested that I start a thread on this separate from my Bruno Mars thread for people who just want to discuss this separate from the other things in my thread nod

Bruno Mars gets Super Bowl gig

NEW YORK -- Grammy-winner Bruno Mars will sing at halftime of the Super Bowl in February, a person familiar with the NFL's entertainment plans told The Associated Press on Saturday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made. The official word is expected to come at an event in New York's Times Square on Sunday.

The NFL's regular season began Thursday, and the first full slate of games is Sunday.

The Super Bowl will be played Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Halftime shows have drawn more than 100 million television viewers in the United States alone in past years.

Beyonce was the star of this year's Super Bowl halftime show in February in New Orleans, where the Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31.

Some recent halftime performers at the NFL's championship game were Madonna in 2012, The Black Eyed Peas with Usher and Slash in 2011, The Who in 2010, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in 2009.

Mars is one of pop music's top acts, with several No. 1 hits, including his most recent, "When I Was Your Man."

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter-producer was honored for best male video and choreography for "Treasure" at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.

Mars, who was born Peter Hernandez, released his platinum-selling debut, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans," in 2010, and released his second album, "Unorthodox Jukebox," last year. His hits include "Locked Out of Heaven," "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade."

Bruno Mars To Play Super Bowl Halftime Show: Fans React On Twitter

Bruno Mars Halftime Show

After multiple reports on Sept. 7 claimed that Bruno had been selected to be the 2014 Super Bowl Halftime Show act, Twitter exploded with fans posting their reactions. Are most looking forward to seeing “Locked Out Of Heaven” on the 50-yard line?

In a surprise move, Bruno Mars has reportedly been picked to perform at Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey on Feb. 2. The “Just The Way You Are” singer is definitely an under-the-radar pick, so do the fans love it or hate it?

Bruno Mars Performing At Super Bowl Halftime Show — Fans React

Though Bruno isn’t a local NYC pick, as many were hoping for, the reactions on Twitter have been mostly positive! “Bruno Mars will be performing for the Super Bowl half time show!!! Freakn’ excited!!,” @_Valery tweeted.

@LOSTlund12 tweeted, “i love bruno mars. if he’s doing the super bowl, i am one happy man.” And @fedeleeee was definitely excited, tweeting, “BRUNO MARS IS GONNA PERFORM AT THE SUPER BOWL.”

@LindaMo84471208 wrote, “Bruno Mars at the halftime Super Bowl show. Yay! It will be worth watching,” and @arjanwrites said, “Great pick” in regards to Bruno.

@mattbarrows also tweeted, “Bruno Mars? Super Bowl halftime show? As long the lights stay on, I’m cool with it. …”

Some Not Fans Of Bruno Mars Being Picked

But like any huge decision, it hasn’t gone without a little criticism. Some people are just upset thatthe Super Bowl Halftime Show can’t just be Beyonce every year.

@troy_anderson tweeted, “Bruno Mars doing the Super Bowl Halftime show?… *sigh* I knew after Beyonce they would go back to screwing us over,” and @XavierLeeds wrote, “How the Super Bowl go from Beyonce to Bruno mars? He’s not a terrible artist but that’s a downgrade.”

And then there were the straight up haters. “Bruno mars is doing the superbowl halftime show! Why cant the nfl pick someone good for one?!,” @RCcooley96 tweeted.

And @STxV wrote, “I’d rather see Bon goddam Jovi than Bruno Mars.”

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but we are thrilled to watch Bruno do his doo-wop thing on one of the biggest stages in entertainment! What do you think about the selection, HollywoodLifers? Let us know!

As a big Bruno Mars fan, I am over the moon over this news dancing jig Excited would be an understatement, the NFL made the right choice picking Bruno Mars as that halftime show imo. thumbs up! But I know that not everyone will be happy and less than thrilled with their pick. I get that not everyone is a fan of his and that some people dont like him at all.

That's ok. People are entitled to their opinion. As usual there will be critics bashing the selection for this year's superbowl show as there are every year. I expect there will be folks thinking that Bruno will not be able to deliver a performance worthy of being the halftime show. Again, I'm ok with that and actually, I think it puts Bruno in a favorable position. Having critics and doubters puts him in the underdog position.

By not having any high expectations and underestimating him, when he takes to the stage and absolutely blows people away with his performance (Yes, IT WILL HAPPEN), that will make his impact even greater! Even tho he's been in the spotlight for only 3 years, as a singer and live performer, Bruno is a seasoned veteran. His Moonshine Jungle tour is one of the hottest tours going right now and has recieved nothing but rave reviews from both fans and critics. When it comes to music, he's the real deal, he's not about hype and stupid gimmicks. He's a real artist. The NFL picked him because they recognize his talent and greatness as a live performer--Bruno and his band consistently deliver incredible live shows everytime they take the stage. I'm not saying that as a fan, I say that cuz its the truth and as someone who has seen him perform live in person. nod

I believe he's going to deliver a knock-out halftime show that will be memorable and talked about for days--maybe even years!. He's got it in him to do so. If anyone wants to get a taste of his live performances check out my Bruno Mars Thread here: http://prince.org/msg/8/400728 wink

Also want to add that

*TONIGHT SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE IS RE-SHOWING THE EPISODE WITH BRUNO MARS! (Aired in Oct. 2012, Bruno hosted AND was the musical guest!)*

Bruno Mars to perform at Super Bowl halftime

Laura Petrecca, USA TODAY3:11 p.m. EDT September 7, 2013

Super Bowl XLVIII — set for Feb. 2 — already has garnered lots of attention.

It's only the start of the season, but the National Football League is expected to share some big Super Bowl news on Sunday: Grammy winner Bruno Mars will sing at halftime, a person familiar with the NFL's entertainment plans told the Associated Press on Saturday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no official announcement had been made.

Super Bowl XLVIII — set for Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. — already has garnered lots of attention because it will be played in an open-air stadium in an area that is susceptible to cold weather and snowstorms.

It's also being held just miles away from New York City, which is the headquarters to many media, advertising and branding behemoths. Those firms are brimming with anticipation about the potential marketing tie-ins with the game.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has taken note of the early excitement.

There's "more buzz around this Super Bowl this year than any Super Bowl in its history," Goodell recently said.

The halftime performance will be a major stage for Mars: Such shows have drawn more than 100 million television viewers in the United States alone in recent years.

Beyoncé starred in the most recent halftime show in New Orleans, where the Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31.

Halftime sponsor Pepsi hyped Beyoncé's performance with a massive crowd-sourcing campaign before the game. It asked consumers to send in photos that would be used in a 30-second video to introduce the singer's performance and received about 120,000. It used nearly 600 fan-submitted images in that video.

Like Beyoncé, Mars is one of pop music's top acts. He has several No. 1 hits, including his most recent, When I Was Your Man.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter-producer was honored for best male video and choreography for Treasure at the MTV Video Music Awards last month.

Mars, who was born Peter Hernandez, released his platinum-selling debut, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, in 2010, and released his second album, Unorthodox Jukebox, last year. His hits include Locked Out of Heaven, Just the Way You Are and Grenade.

Some recent halftime performers at the NFL's championship game were Madonna in 2012, The Black Eyed Peas with Usher and Slash in 2011, The Who in 2010, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in 2009.

I hear ya cindymay, I thought the same thing. Its quite amazing for them to choose a guy whose only released 2 albums and has been well known in the music scene for only 3 years. I'm wondering if this is some kind of record--I dont recall them ever picking someone so fresh in the game before, I think this might be a first for them. Although Bruno isnt completely unknown, he's still a relative newbie and there's a few folks who still dont know who he is lol. But I think he was chosen because of his track record of consistently putting on great live performances and his music being very popular with people of all ages. I think they wanted someone who is not only hot right now, but one they feel confident of delivering an excellent live show as well, and so that's why they picked Bruno. They won't be disappointed biggrin

Maybe what the Superbowl needs is some new blood...
If he can put on a great live performance, what difference does it make how long he's been doing it?

I read the comments on the SNY FB page; they were so cruel and obnoxious. rolleyes

I'll actually watch it this year! biggrin

performer was but then I remembered barely from the responses here

on the org. lol But I did not watch one minute of it. I am done with

Superbowl Halftime performances.

I think that requirement has went down over the years in general and if we are going to give the side eye to Bruno than we need to do alot of other acts that did halftime with careers not even 20+ lol Let alone not having a strong back catalogue that is easily recognizable to such a wide audience lol If you look at performers like MJ,Prince,Madonna,Aerosmith, Bruce, etc they were all over 30 when they did the halftime with of course strong catalogues of classics. I think (in this new era of halftimes )the NFL wants current popular headliners that will draw interest to the halftime show and not so much veteran or legendary acts(this is okay too if they are fairly descent performers with descent music but previous acts dont even have both let alone having one of em lol ). I havent watched a halftime show since 04 when Janet performed but I will definitly watch this years cause I dig Bruno. Bruno puts on a great live show and I think his show will be different compared to other previous acts which is also a great thing. This might start a new change for them and maybe in the future we might see the Electric Lady one day! lol

Maybe! Next year is Bruno, but who knows, the year after that could just be Janelle Monae! biggrin I dare to dream. I'm still so amazed by the news, not even Lady Gaga has received this honor and she's been out just a little bit longer than Bruno and is perceived as more popular than he.

I know right! lol That is just crazy but I am so excited and proud of him! He came a long ways and he did it the right way. I hope America is ready because this will definitly be a refreshing "different" performance. Remember Naughty not to scream to loud to the point you cant hear him actually singing lol

At least they got someone who can sing, dance, has a live band, and can put on a show. Good for him. I liked Bruno's award show appearances.

The NFL has to walk a tightrope with halftime acts. They need to put on a great show and shy away from controversy at the same time. They also have to appeal to a very broad range of people and many legacy acts are beginning to look and sound like death warmed over. lol

Except for grouches on the internet, I haven't run into a single person of any age who doesn't like Bruno Mars. He seems like a pretty safe, family friendly choice, has actual talent and is very entertaining.

I'm primarily a fan of the game but I'm thrilled for him...go Bruno! biggrin

He'll do maybe the censored version, anyway I expect him to cover MJ or Jimi Hendrix and their likes, Prince covered Foo Fighters, Tina Turner... It was a beautiful show, Bruno's material is mostly ballads and he got a few number of dance songs: Locked Out of Heaven, Treasure, Runaway Baby, Natalie, Show Me. He can pull off a great show I guess.

Did it ever occur to them that Springsteen probably gets offers to do it and he just doesn't? And Bon Jovi only attracts the diehards. Besides who would wanna see them now that Sambora's been kicked out. Fuck them. Bruno, do your thing.

Ppl are giving him hard time because of this, some are calling him alien, ugly philipino and names like that, I mean America just pushes it to the limit, if Springsteen was picked they'll bitch about Billy Joel, if Rihanna was picked they'll bitch about Lady Gaga or Katy Perry not being chosen, but what matters is that Bruno IS going to perform n hopefully brings somebody with him.

A couple of years ago, I saw him on tour with Janelle -- I was there to see her, and didn't really have many thoughts on him one way or another. But I have to say, he really won me over with his performance. He sang wonderfully live, danced, played instruments, and my friend developed an instant mega-crush on him because of his smile. I'm still not a super-fan because he's a little youngish for me (the screaming teenagers surrounding us may have left that unfortunate connection in my mind lol). However, I think this is a great choice -- Bruno deserves this more than almost any act out there right now. His songs tell a story, and he has that great, human, vulnerable quality that musicians who are remembered and loved have. Sure, he's not Prince, but who is? biggrin
