and during the commercial there was an ad for his show at Verizon Center in DC which looks nowhere near sold out yet and something like $222 for floor seats

Not even a Top 20-30.
Really? He has sold over 30 million albums and over 78 million digital tracks worldwide. Over the course of his career, he has had six consecutive #1 albums and seven #1 singles. His Oct 26th an 28th shows at Staple Center have sold out. Kendrick Lemar is the opening act and I'm bummed out that I can't get tickets. Their still available in Vegas though. My bad I forgot this was about his personal life and not his creative merit. So carry on with the lame and pointless gossip. I believe those guys are referring to him not having a hit single released around his current album, to promote the upcoming tour. Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss... |

Thing Kayne needs to learn is that being a genius means proving it time after time and that people call you a genius! You don't claim to be a genius yourself...you just come as the self absorbed douche you really are The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Yes, at least that's what I was referring to. His latest release not producing any hits yet. However with a project like this, I doubt he was shooting for radio hits anyway. Kanye knows how to produce hit songs by now. He's produced too many for himself and others not to. |

There was an ad for his show the same night Kimmel posted Kanye's fake rants against him. Those guys were pulling a stunt on the public so people would buy tickets to Kanye's show. When that didn't work, Kimmel booked Kanye on the show. They're friends, believe me. |

Kanye deliberately made the songs like that so he wouldn't be forced to promote them. That's why I don't believe his "genius" rant. He is a good producer but he used other producers on Yeezus. Shoot, Daft Punk produced half of them and their tracks were really sloppy as was the entire album imho. Kanye didn't even think of putting a cover, just a blank (I think) disc. Kanye wants to build a bigger spectacle of himself and in the past it's worked to the point people still think he's struggling from Donde West's death and that he's a "mental basket case". But I don't even think HE believes in his delusions of grandeur. Hence why I think that everything he's done is a stunt: from the Grammy/American Music Award/MTV Award temper tantrums to roughing up the photographer (why do you think he's never gonna get jail time for it?) to his relationship (or lack of) with Kim Kardashian. It's all calculated because he can't rely on just the music to sell himself, he has to be extra. It's more a cry for attention than a cry for help. |

'Ye has been acting nutty for quite a long time, even before his mother passed on.
He was at an awards show in Europe and jumped on the stage about his Touch The Sky video. Remember that? He was pissed that it cost a million, but it didn't win. It's not being racist towards Kanye, he's just rude. What if these other artists never win anything again in their lives? Kanye ruined their moment. People work their whole lives to get there, but this fool Kanye doesn't care about that. It's called respect. Have some. |

I do not agree to everything Kanye says, and he is not a role model to me when it comes to his actions. However he is a role model when it comes to honesty. Why do so many people want to force him to be more humble based on what they think he deserve.
While people are sitting here hating on everything he does. Kanye is developing clothing lines, making beats, helping other artists, saying what he believes in, always doing something. It's easy to just sit here, doing nothing else and try to convince people how great he is NOT, while he is actually doing something he believes in constantly. Eat that! Give hime a break seriously. Start doing something with your own life. Btw Kanye might not be a genuis in your mind, but he is in his. That's ok with me. He doesn't force me to believe anything else. But alot of people wasting time on the org does. Like me, I'm probably wasting time myself right now. But I want to defend the right to be yourself. You wont get nowhere on hating. You should learn from the good of what passionate people do, and ignore the less good if it isn't hurtful. |

Clothing lines....really? That's not talent based....it involves selling a brand...not skill...jeans, hoodies and plain white t's...oh yeah...leather jogging pants too.
Making beats? We've heard his records...he makes them....but he not a genius about it.
I ain't eating nothing...cuz he ain't doing nothing worth eating.
He's produced a couple great tunes. I applaud him for that. I don't discount it...I applaud that talent. I can't do it. Does it make him a creative genius? Hell the fuck no. I was bullshitting when I was talking about humility. Flat out...quit talking out your ass. Much different than humility. U wanna know who he sounds like...dirk digler coked out in a red leather get up, sweating at a soundboard.
Look at Duke Ellington's body of work...look at Herbie Hancock's body of work...and genius is loosely applied to them. Look at Samuel Clemons body of work. Look at the Beatles body of work...look at george Lucas' body of work. If kanye west IS a creative genius...ANYONE is a creative genius which completely negates the definition of genius.
That nigaa cuts records...that's all...no shame it....but that's all...it don't take a creative genius.
Edit...took an "i" off of "it's" to make it "t's" and added "get-up" after leather. [Edited 10/12/13 3:46am] |

I think kanye is right about the confidence/esteem part and wish fulfillment. Is it so bad for someone to look at heroes like the one he put up and say, "I want to be like that person"? Ego is not entirely bad, and not entirely good. Ego is an aspect of humanity that powers us to progress. Isaac Newton had one hell of an Ego, most scientists can't wait to knock someone else theory down. Man suffers from a superiority complex. It is who we Are.
I also think alot of the hate and destructive criticism Kanye receives does stem from people who are unsatisfied with their lot in Life. Kanye is a flawed human being this is true(who isn't?) but he also has achieved more than most in terms of financial/artistic/global success in the world. Do the Ends Justify the Means? I think so, how many people has Kanye Killed, or harmed, or abused? How is he such a horrible person? He has less blood on his hands than The Pope, Obama, etc etc. But because he discloses how he truly feels he is lambasted, and derided.

Genius is a relative term as you know full, especially regarding the Arts. Kanye has never elucidated his criterion for Genius so how do we know he doesn't meet his criteria?
My point about Potus and Pontiff was regarding contribution to society. The former may do more but they also leave a larger wake of death and destruction on this planet. Kanye hasn't ever killed someone or had someone die indirectly due to his ideology has he? [Edited 10/12/13 12:54pm] |

It proves he isn't beyond crediting people who elevated him.
Maybe you were referring to the clip itself, and in truth this point is semantics, but he's not obliged to do anything he doesn't have to. Maybe he realizes all those people who helped him mutually benefited from his success and so he feels no need for gratitude. Just an alternative thought to ponder.
And your point is as relevant as me explaining the important of calculus. My generation is solipsistic. Nice observation. You're generation seems judgemental and cantankerous. Does that overshadow whatever achievements you've made in life? I doubt it. Why? because what matters is what you DO in life. And again, what is it that Kanye DOES that is so detrimental?

So what makes you qualified to tell us who is a genuis, and who is not? I didn't even say he was. I just said that he has every right to believe so. I'm pretty sure Prince thought the same about himself. And does being a creative genuis automatically give you social skills? And does amazing social skills force you to shut up? No matter how bad of a strategy we think it is to name yourself a genuis, it doesnt automatically make you stupid to do so. Action or lack of action does not prove intelligense, it just makes it easier for us to believe that we know how smart a person is.
The genuis "trophy" in the music world is often earned based on how music critics think these artists change music history. And tell me this... Would these artists sound the same if it wasn't for Kanye? Drake, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, James Blake... and even though Jay-Z helped Kanye get his piece of the cake, tables are now turned. Jay-Z is creativly in the shadow of Kanye, and has jumped on Kanyes ideas for a long ass time.
Kanye got help from other producers on his last album, but that's not because he can't do it on his own. He has learnt to appreciate the creative dynamics of collaborating more than earlier. He knows "who" and "what" to use "when". And even though I am the biggest Prince fan that I know, I'm honest when I say that every Kanye album is better to me than 95% of what Prince has released for the last 20 years. If you wanna talk about being a game changer, Kanye has been for a while, but it will be more clear in 10-20 years when we get to put things more into perspective.
It's impossible to compare Kanye to Duke Ellington. It's like comparing Andy Warhols catchy Pop Art to Rembrandts paintings in a Baroque style. Andy Warhol has probably had just as much impact on the directions of visual arts, but he is still too new to be compared to the greatest. Minimalism is not always stupid. Prince is a great example of genuis minimalism. When Doves Cry is both containing alot and very little at the same time.
I want to make it clear that I am not saying Kanye is on the same level. I'm not trying to prove him being a genuis. I'm just questioning your method of knowing who is and who aint. Kanye still needs time to prove what he is capable of. But in the end, if it helps him out in this cold world to believe in himself. Why not? [Edited 10/12/13 13:58pm] |

Why not?

Thank You!!!
And in the end it doesn't fucking matter about who's a genius and who isn't, since that's a matter of aggrandizement and Ego. Duke Ellington himself said their is only two kinds of music. The Kind you Feel and the Kind you Don't. Simple as. You don't like Kanye don't listen to him. Why would you waste precious moments of your life to hate on someone?
The only things I dislike vehemently are things that I feel actually IMPEDE my progress, potential, desire and ambitions like ideologies, oppression, violence, etc. not musicians who call themselves genius when they really aren't. |

And that video proves? that you won a grammy and made a speech? Look this age/generation is totally 100% self absorbed and self obsessed, believing and spewing their own HYPE, own it, thats all im saying, this is not a talent contest, some people like him and some dont, some people like bon jovi and some dont, some think bono is an asshole and some think he is the greatest humanatarian of the last 50 years. Im just saying the truth of what KANYE is coming from, and what generation, his being self obsessed overshadows any talent, thats the point and the truth, 90% of people talk about him and the talk about him has NOTHING to do with his work his talent his clothing lines his charity and that is all his fault, so more power to him, props for his talents, but at least fess up and OWN IT!
I agree with this 100% |

When asked about how he came up with What's Going On, Marvin Gaye pondered to the interviewer, "I'm guessing your question is am I a genius or am I a fake? I have to say I'm a fake." He also credited God for the work.
41, 42 years later, you have a dude that releases halfway done music, thinks he's some rebellious fashionista and not only think he's a creative genius but that he's some sort of God. And you think that's being sincere?
Mmkay. Carry on, I guess. And save the essays. [Edited 10/12/13 16:40pm] |

I'm loving me some Marvin Gaye, but when taken out of context, Marvin wasn't even confronted with the word genuis, and he put the word genuis into the interviewers mouth. He just makes it more appealing to a religious population by saying that God was the responsible genuis. I'm not sure if wrapping his own opinions into silver paper, is being less self sentered.
I bet most of us have experienced something close to this...
- This guy told me you're a beast on the guitar. It would be nice to hear you play. - oh well, I'm not that good. I just play a little bit every now and then. But I guess I could try a couple tunes for you to hear if you want...
goes on and plays a MEAN guitar like it was nothing. My thought on this is that this is a strategy to lower the expectations, in hope for a bigger climax when he actually proves the opposite by being the beast that he said he wasn't. If he would credit that to God, then I would just think whatever, and learn a mean guitar from somebody that actually believes in work ethics, passion and love for what he does. I'm not a religous man, so telling me somebody else did what you do won't make me think of you as less arrogant. It would just make me think that you don't want to explain it. God is always the answer in too many questions asked in religious societies. God may show you the way, but you gotta walk the path for yourself.
James Brown: Don't give me a handout, show me a way out!
I've read Miles Davis biography, and most of these great musicians that was portrayed there had HUGE egoes. You think Charlie Parker was humble? You really think Marvin Gaye actually was that humble. It's very easy to credit something to God. It's stil him that was earned the "right" to get a certain amount of help from God to achieve this. And why is that? God just accidently dropped some gifts on his head? |
