did Rick James sue to protect the song from Keni Burkes family back in the day?
but more revealing is the question.... did he get bashed for it in the same way Thicke is now? like dunno... Fuck Rick James! that's all! ...it is called hijacking. This MF done lost his damn mind. I have no respect for him.

Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

LOL..this is the exact point I was making in the Robin Thicke thread. There are MANY,MANY,MANY songs that borrow elements from other songs, but it's not *always* a case of copyright infringement. Many basslines are similiar.

Barbara Acklin's Am I The Same Girl & Soulful Strut by Young-Holt Unlimited are literally the same track. They just took off the vocals and added a piano. Both songs were released by Brunswick Records.
You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

So true. If this was 1981/1982, Rick James would be suing MJ and Rod Temperton for stealing the bass line for "Thriller."

Quincy ADMITTED they "stole'd" the Bassline!!!!
yeah,Rick ran into Quincy at a party, and Quincy confessed that the bassline on the song "Thriller" was borrowed from Rick's song "Give It To Me,Baby".This kinda stuff happened all the time back then, but it wasn't a big deal. These artists were friends of each other and there was mutual respect.Everyone was inspired by someone else, anyway. That's why I think the hoopla over "Blurred Lines" is absurd and overblown.

Very true. Rick could've easily sued Q/MJ/and RT for copyright infringment back then. Look at all of the money that 'Thriller' made, he would have had a big chunk of it. But you're right, RJ respected Q and MJ and probably saw the sample as a complament.
Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!
