after a first listen; i must say i'm pretty disappointed.. i wasn't really feeling 'love of my life' too. i was definitely feeling 'jimi was a rock star' and was kind of hoping for something like that; one of erykah's best vocal performances imo. i also like her collaboration with roy hargrove on his tune 'poetry' with q-tip.. but damn, i'm not feeling 'funk for you' at this moment.. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine

Co-sign, it's pretty unremarkable on first listen.

In order to fully understand this track here's a little background info:
Funk You Up was originally performed by Sequence, the "rap" group Angie Stone was in during the early 1980s. This song is basically a remix of Love of My Life which incorporates Funk You Up. I am disappointed by it, but I can understand what she attempted to do.

jeez, that corny "ding-ding-dong.." line. how can you incorporate that in the song? it's been used too many times already.. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
