Damn American Girl is a hit record There are so many Princey sounding records rocketing up the charts Blurred Lines is an obvious one American Girl is another. Perhaps not lyrically but hat 80s sounding drum machine and bass line with an infectious pop hook. That song is a hit record.... When my daughter was playing it today I said damn.... Hit It sounded like Katy Perry's teenage dream which was another infectious laden pop record load with sexual tension, fuzzy bass line over that very familiar sonding drum track Dance... The lyrics are cringe worthy IMO because of wat she's saying... I dont want my 12 yeard old thinking thats what being an young girl is about. However, the hook is crazy and catchy as hell and the drum track is practically lifted from batdance just smoothed out Disagree about it being trash.... This s not a Brittney Spears song and anyone with an serious ear for music can hear that. Heck especially a Prince fan [Edited 9/15/13 6:21am] Dance... Let me see you dance

Ooooookay. The lyrics r its strong point. I thought. I felt the songwriter was being cynical/sarcastic. If so, the lyrics r spot on to their point. But the point is old and cliche. ..the music is trite, unimaginative and flocking withthe rest of the Teenybopper bs. Its decent for what it is, but it aint no hit or nothing infectious or trend setting. Nothing here for a songwriter or performer to be jealous of.

However if its one thing I have learned from listening to some of Prince's pop records is how bad most pop records are. This one is very good and certainly is now and will continue to be a smash hit. The ears don't lie Re: lyrics I think they lacked creativity. Take the stereotype of a teenage girl that comes out of the mouth of the Christian right and that's what she is singing about. With the kind of hook that's in the song some stronger lyrical content would have made the song better Dance... Let me see you dance
