'The Essential Britney Spears' Will Arrive Before New Studio Project

britney spears

Britney Spears has been teasing a new album for months, and for a hot second we almost thought a release date was nigh. But alas, no such luck. The singer instead announced she will release another greatest-hits album.

Spears has a few of those already. The first, "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative," arrived in 2004 following the singer's fourth album, "In the Zone." A remix compilation came the following year, and in 2009 "The Singles Collection" updated the previous best-of anthology. We received another remix effort in 2011, and now a third greatest-hits project is set. Anyone spot the trend?

No need to fear too much, though -- Spears says she's still hard at work on her eighth studio album. The singer tweeted Thursday night that it's on the horizon

In the meantime, "The Essential Britney Spears" will go on sale Aug. 20 as a Walmart exclusive. The two-disc release features a chronological tracklist that spans "...Baby One More Time" to "Scream & Shout."

DISC 1:
1. "...Baby One More Time"

Britney Spears Readies Ne...s Revealed

Britney Spears promo TheLavaLizard

Britney Spears looks alive for a brief moment.

With highly anticipated new releases from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Mariah Carey on the way, 2013 is shaping up to be the year of musical comebacks and it was only a matter of time before Britney Spears got in on the action. The “Criminal” singer has teased fans that her new album will ditch the sugary Pop sounds of yesterday and go for a more urban feel, a la Blackout 2.0.

Spears has enlisted top-notch producers such as William Orbit (Madonna, Ray of Light), Darkchild, Pharrell Williams and now, Naughty Boy. During his latest interview with Entertainment Wise the producer revealed that he wants to keep Britney in the Pop genre, but create still a fresh sound.

“I’m a big fan of Pop music and that culture, so I definitely want to keep that going but in my own kind of way and my own kind of style.”, Naughty Boy exclaimed. “I’m not trying to make any kind of record you would have heard before. As a producer you want to be able to do that, keep it original.”

Naughty Boy also nixed the idea of creating anything similar to her last album, Femme Fatale. “I wouldn’t do anything that dub-steppy [but] I wanted to keep it Pop. Thus far, I’m definitely getting an In the Zone feel for this new record, so I can only hope that the performance resemble this era as well.

The tracklist of Essential is ace.

I can't wait for Blackout 2.0. Blackout was genre defining album and it's still her best. A Pop masterpiece

In agreement, she may not be able to sing her way out of a wet paper bag on a rainy day away from the studio, but she definitely has a talent for picking good material for herself.

okay well to be honest I like the LP Version of "Boys" more. But you know what I mean. Sometimes they aren't paying attention to the most played version of the hit on these compilations.

They were riffing off of "Nasty" way too much to present it to the original artist!

I think Outrageous, Hot As Ice, and Out From Under should have been replaced with Born To Make You Happy (A U.K. number one hit), The S&M remix she did with Rihanna (U.S. Number One Hit), and that Christmas song she did which hasn't been on any of her albums

No. I just looked it up: My Only Wish (This Year). That song was played nonstop on the radio around Christmas for a few years.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

Here comes some info about album 8:

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- Britney started to meet with her management and record label at the very early X Factor stages to discuss album 8.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- This time arund, Britney has full creative control of the album (togheter with Will) and her team is 100% behind her.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- Britney is working on the material on her own in her home studio

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- Britney wrote a song together with her sister Jamie Lynn, but Jamie Lynn won't have a feature on the song. Just writing credits.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- Britney requested working with Sia and William Orbit herself. The Sia song is finished, aswell as two songs with William Orbit.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- Britney might record more songs with William Orbit.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- The song that Britney recorded with Sia is melancholy midtempo.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- has only submitted one song himself for the new album, which Britney already recorded.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- Will is merely working as the executive producer and taking his job very seriously.

DailySpears @DailySpears21h

- Promotion performances are supposedly going to happen in October. Britney will not only promote in the US, but also overseas.

DailySpears @DailySpears20h

- A lot of the songs that she's written or co-written originally for the 'Femme Fatale' album are back in the pitch for album 8.

DailySpears @DailySpears20h

I think the first single will drop in September and the album in October. smile xo

DailySpears @DailySpears20h

- Britney and her management always planned a release in the 4th quarter of 2013.

DailySpears @DailySpears20h

- As things are now, it looks like first single will drop in September. And the album in October. Since they are planning promo then.

DailySpears @DailySpears20h

Rumor has it that the first single are titled 'Feed The Wolves'.

DailySpears @DailySpears20h

- When Britney's team heard the rumor about 'Feed The Wolves', they ran the title past Britney. Britney loved the meaning of the title

DailySpears @DailySpears20h

There was some kind of mishap during the late recording processes of Femme Fatale,

DailySpears @DailySpears20h

which made Britney so fed up that she didn't really care about the material anymore. This time, she have the control!

It is simply not "essential" on a disc narrowed down to only her most dominating hits, but if I were making a 3 or 4 disc ANTHOLOGY or box set, I would expect it to be there.
