11 tracks? So is it 21/20 now? Did his vision improve?

That's great news. The first part is an awesome album. I just hope there's enough promotion, because the cover art is similar to the one of the previous album, and people seeing it in a shop may not notice that it's a different record.

I know. I'm all for more bonus tracks, but I thought the idea was 20 main tracks to go with the 20/20 theme.

Inside Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience Sequel

August 16, 2013

Link

In March, Justin Timberlake returned to music after a seven-year absence with The 20/20 Experience. On September 30th, he will release another 11 songs from those same sessions, The 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2. What prompted such a flood of new material?

Ben Affleck.

"We had a month prior to Justin shooting a movie with Ben, Runner Runner, so the idea was to get into a studio and see if the chemistry was there," Timberlake's manager, Johnny Wright, tells Rolling Stone of the sessions, co-produced by Timberlake with Timbaland and Texas hip-hop producer J-Roc. "The first thought was just a single or an EP."

One night, Wright joined Timberlake for dinner at the singer's mother's house in Memphis. There, the manager heard that the chemistry was proving exceedingly productive. "Those guys got into a groove and cut a record every day," Wright says. "In the end, they had more than 20 songs."

Wright says he and Timberlake knew from the start they had too much material for one album. "Because the songs weren't just three minutes long, if we put all this on one record, we'd probably have a three-hour experience, and that's too much music," he says. "So we had the conversation about splitting it up and putting them both out in one year."

According to Wright, the songs were chosen for their respective releases based on mood and lyrics. "Some of the songs to him felt happy and lively, and some felt kind of dark," he says. "So we turned the two pieces into, like, seasons. Everyone's going to have a different opinion. But for me, the first half is about new love, the honeymoon, when you're just getting into a relationship. And when you get to the second part, the relationship is established and things are going on."

In other words, the first half is about the seduction and the second half is about the reality of a day-to-day relationship? "Yeah," Wright says, chuckling, "you could say that. There's a song called 'Not a Bad Thing,' where he goes through the whole scenario, about how if the girl has any doubts, 'you gotta get to know me, because I am a good guy.' I remember having that conversation once with a girl."

Wright says the album isn't a dance pop record ("it's the lyrical content"), but points to uptempo tracks like "True Blood" as examples of Timberlake's attempt at sophisticated dance pop. "Even the midtempo songs have a groove to them," he insists. "You can still dance at 98 beats – it's just a different kind of dance."

I kinda agree with you there. While it was nice to finally have new JT tunes...

I was a bit disappointed in how down-tempo they were. Jay-Z and JT have about as much in common as...

Gee, I don't know. That's how much they have in common; I can't even think of something to compare it to! Love Jay-Z, just not with JT.

I really enjoyed the first album. "Mirrors," "Let the Groove Get In," "Don't Hold the Wall," "That Girl," and "Tunnel Vision" are all fantastic tracks to my ears. "Dress On," "Pusher Love Girl," and "Strawberry Bubblegum" are also very good. "Suit & Tie" and the other bonus track "Body Count" are the only ones I'm lukewarm about.

He revealed the tracklisting earlier this month (sans features). Due September 30, the project also features thesingle “Take Back the Night,” with production from Timbaland and Jerome “J-Roc” Harmon.

His previous album The 20/20 Experience was released in March and sold 968,000 copies in its first week. It is currently the best-selling album of 2013.

Mmm, I've listened to "Take Back The Night" and it seems much inferior to the tracks of the first part to my ears... The hip-hop guests isn't good news to me neither...

"Take Back The Night" sounds like The System or Kashif. I think it's great, and I have got multiple listens out of it. "Suit And Tie" and "Mirrors" weren't as strong to me.

Timberlake Teases New Single, Reveals Locked Website

Sept 19th

Link

When Justin Timberlake decided to get back into the music business, he announced the first single from The 20/20 Experience in an elaborate online reveal. Now, he's doing the same thing for his new album, The 20/20 Experience -- Part 2 of 2.

On Thursday, Justin posted on Instagram a handwritten note asking, "Should I release a new single today?" and added the caption, "Stay tuned #youneverknow#The2020Experience#2of2."

He also posted the URL of his official website, which takes you to a splash page displaying a series of boxes with locks in them.

It appears as though he's going to ask his fans to start "unlocking" new songs from the disc, which is due September 30. As Justin says, "Stay tuned."

I thought I was the only one who thought that. People kept saying "Off the Wall-ish" but I disagreed with that. It also sounds like a Whispers song (like "Suit & Tie" oddly enough since S&T minus the hip-hop mixing reminded me of And the Beat Goes On).

I realized by time that every song by Timbaland sounds the same.

Except of some few tracks on the first part, which I liked, but mostly they were sampled..

Anyway congrats for JT to have the best selling album of 2013.. smile
