Very good interview. It's clear that the drama was not caused by them...they seem like reasonable women who just wanna work and make money.Unfortunately,Maxine and Dawn had other plans

People today pay to see groups like The Platters and Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, where it's obviously not the original members, who are dead or retired. Other oldies groups may have some originals with some members who are much younger. I see them on those PBS Doo Wop concerts. At one point there were 4 different Temptations groups, one with Otis Williams, one with Dennis Edwards, and two others by the recently deceased Richard Street & Damon Harris, and there might be other imposter groups with no actual members. People also pay to see tribute bands who exlusively perform songs by certain groups and Broadway shows like Jersey Boys about Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It sounds like Max (my fav member actually lol) was the problem in their eyes. But it would nice to hear Max explain why she wanted her own manager or whatever Cindy/Terry are saying in the video, and why Max threatended to sue.
Dawn said in a recent interview each member made 2 cents per album sold, and the contracts were so bad she left.

Yes,it would be good to hear Maxine's side of the story. As for Dawn...she seems to have an issue with every situation that she's in
I like how, despite everything,Terry and Cindy are still leaving the door open for Max and Dawn to come back.

There's no difference in people seeing 2 En Vogue groups and 4 Temptations groups. The Temptations members were alive and had multiple groups. There's also Guns N Roses. Axl Rose has his group and the other original members are alive. Axl didn't even participate in their Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame induction. When Van Halen was inducted only Sammy Hagar & Michael Anthony showed up. Roger Waters and the other Pink Floyd members fueded for a long time. They didn't get back together until Live 8, and it was a one time thing. Tony! Toni! Tone'! tours without Raphael. Groups fight all the time. En Vogue are no different. If people pay to see them, why should Cindy & Terry stop and wait for the other two to return? Maxine & Dawn had been gone for a long time and En Vogue released two albums without them. They have to make a living. It's not like they're rich and can sit at home. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The interview does make Cindy and Terry seem like earnest victims of the other twos divadom, but the truth is that they all just have different career goals. Dawn's issue was always money and career flexability...which is fair. Her attitude is 'we should be making better money than this and shouldn't settle,' and she didn't wanna be locked into a long term situation where she couldn't legally walk away. Seems like Cindy and Terry's attitudes were always "let's just keep it going, take the deal on the table and maybe something better will come later." And it seems like Max probably quietly agreed with Dawn on business decisions, but for the longest time went with the majority vote, until finally she couldn't stand it anymore. They fight, certain members quit and are replaced while the remaining members go on to do these lowbrow independent gigs/projects...then every five years or so the original four will make some random, fragile attempt to reunite that never lasts long. I don't know who to condemn or praise in all this. Should Cindy and Terry be congratulated for being loyal to the brand, wanting to keep the group together through the highs and lows, or should they be scorned for being willing to accept a bunch of bad deals in the meantime? Should Dawn and Max be congratulated for being smart enough to not accept poor management and bad deals that could take years to resolve, or should they be villified for being problem children who're too difficult to work with and overestimate their worth? Oh well. The truth is that EnVogue died after "Don't Let Go," and they were probably already on thin ice for years before they managed to score that surprise swansong hit.

I understand the need to make as much money as possible, and to have a very lucrative deal. But let's be honest here....Envogue hasn't had a hit single since the late 90s.They are now considered veteran artists.I doubt that they will ever get the type of big money deal that Dawn and Maxine are seeking.Terry and Cindy are being realistic.

I know a bunch of people my age (late 30s, early 40s) who LOVE En Vogue and were right there when En Vogue was at the top of the world. So, in my mind, I always think that a reformed En Vogue could easily put together a successful mid-size venue tour. But, my perception could be skewed from being around En Vogue lovers (and simply remembering how big they actually were).
If they ever burried the hatchet and performed together again, would there be a substantial audience for it? At least enough to make a little $$? Or, would it be more like "that's nice, but I'm not shelling out money to see En Vogue after all these years."

The original 4 was touring up to sometime last year, when Dawn left again. I think they were performing in clubs mainly and package tours with other acts. Most of the time they had a band. In some cases, they were singing to pre-recorded tracks. Usually when one left Rhona Bennett would fill in, and Rhona was on the last album En Vogue released, 2004's Soulflower, and seemed to do most of the leads on the album, when before it was split evenly. The lineup on Soulflower is Cindy, Terry, & Rhona. On one tour, Cindy was out for pregnancy and the lineup was Terry, Maxine, & Rhona. This was after Maxine had quit the group the 1st time, but she agreed to sub for Cindy. Around 2011, The originals started to record new songs for a label called Rufftown. Dawn declined to sing on it, because she said the contract they were offered was bad and didn't sign, although she continued to perform with En Vogue in concert. The last I heard the other 3 were trying to get out of the deal, but a radio station got a hold of one of the songs called I'll Cry Later and played it. I see that Dawn is on the reality show R&B Divas and it appears to be doing well, which begs the question.....why don't the four original EnVogue ladies agree to do a reality show of their own?
To do this, though, they would have to actually re-form (all four of them). It's something that they should all think about.
I'd rather see them on a reality show, instead of that absurd Braxton sisters show.

They spread it around relatively well, but Dawn and Cindy were the two main soloists.

You forgot to mention the re-recording with Terry on lead vocals after Dawn let En Vogue the first time.

What are you talking about? There's a slightly different version where Terry has some ad libs at the end, but there isn't a version of that song where Dawn isn't the principal lead singer. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
