Bilal and Vivian Green - FREE concert in NYC Aug 7

Hi. I think this is the right thread to post this, since "concerts" is for Prince stuff.

For anyone in or near NYC, Bilal and Vivian Green are doing a free outdoor Summerstage concert this Wednesday, August 7. More info here:

http://www.cityparksfound...dar/bilal/

I saw Bilal at the Carnegie Hall Prince tribute a earlier this year. He did a great version of "Sister", one of the highlights of the night for me. This guy catches the holy ghost on stage!

Here's a video of Bilal doing a blues song live (his vocal start at about 1:15)

Here's Vivian Green, also live:

My friends and I are planning on going... I was at Carnegie Hall, too, and saw him at SOB's in June.

I was just listening to the weather report, though, and there are supposed to be thunderstorms. sigh

I just went to the website and found this message:

All SummerStage shows go on RAIN OR SHINE and are only cancelled in the event of dangerous lightning during a performance.
Schedule of events and performers subject to change without notice. - See more at: http://www.cityparksfound...DcQkf.dpuf

See you there! umbrella

Yeah, I saw the forecast, too. I have been to Summerstage shows in the rain before - so let's just hope there's no lightning. Well, in the summer almost every other day has a forecast of a chance thunderstorms anyway. How early do you think you need to get there?

I am trying to talk a couple friends into going (they don't like crowds). But I'll definitely be there. If you see a white woman in a Janelle Monae "ArchAndroid" t-shirt, it's probably me smile

I'm coming fro NJ, so the train schedule that works for us puts usat the park around 5:20...
We've never been there before, so we'd rather be early than late...

My picture is on the Photowhore thread in GD... Not sure what I'm wearing yet- It depends on the weather.
Hope to meet you! biggrin

We did... banks popped over for a bit... biggrin

It didn't rain. It actually started drizzling when were walking back to the subway, but it wasn't significant. When we got back to NJ, it had rained really hard.

The whole thing was supposed to be from 7-9. Chrisette Michele did one song, and Shayla from WBLS did a lot of "filler" with the crowd... I'd say he played about an hour. He finished around 9:20.

I was there, too! I think you guys were a few rows behind me. Banks, were you the guy who sang part of "I Can't Make you Love Me" during the talent search the DJ ran? That was niiiice!

I was sorry Vivian and Bilal's sets weren't longer, though. Too much filler and DJ chat for my tastes. Vivian was very good, but Bilal was the highlight for me. I ran up next to the stage when his set started - I was probably 10 feet from him. Amazing. He is so intense, and what a beautiful voice. I took no photos or videos, just freakin lost it and loved the experience smile

No, I was with the group from NJ who started cheering when that guy sang. We didn't know him, but we had to "represent". biggrin
We were on the end of the 6th and 7th rows, on the right side facing the stage.

Banks was the one who yelled out a song he wanted Vivian to sing.

What were you wearing?

I was wearing a black Janelle Monae "ArchAndroid" t-shirt. For Vivian Green I sat on the aisle in about the third row, right side. For Bilal I was standing in front, very near the stage (still on right hand side).

I heard your group cheer at the NJ mention, but didn't get a good look at you. Anyway, what did you think of the show?
