GRRR...you took most of my choice answers. I was about to start a thread similar to this after listening to a modern/classic rock station talk about white artists with soul this morning. Let me see what I can come up with.

AWB- Pick up the Pieces and A Love of Your Own
Bobby Caldwell - What You Won't Do for Love and In the Name of Love
Van Morrison - Moondance
Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That
Todd Rundgren - Love is the Answer
Simply Red - Holding Back the Years
Boz Scaggs - We're All Alone
Lisa Stansfield - You Can't Deny It
Michael McDonald - I Keep Forgetting
Pet Shop Boys w/Dusty Springfield - What Have I Done to Deserve This
Don Henley - Sunset Grill
Culture Club - Time and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me
George Michael - Kissing A Fool
Paul Young - Everytime You Go Away
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

I have 2 pick 2 full lenght albums instead.
I can´t think of that many blue eyed artists in my
collection so I say
1.David Bowie-Young Americans 1975.
This was the time when Bowie had burried Ziggy & moved 2
America 2 explore the soul scéne & came up with this
original mix known as "plastic soul".He got Willie Weeks(donny hathaway) on bass
& Andy Newmark(sly & the family stone)on drums.
Got some great stuff on it 2.

2.Lewis Taylor-his debutalbum from 1996.
Talk about a deep,soulful album.This is a multitaleted
english guy.He played guitar in D'angelos band at one point.
This albums 3 first songs R probably some of the
deepest soultracks in the nineties in my opinion.
Unfortunatly I did´nt feel his 2 albums after that as much
as this 1,but his debut I would like 2 recomend 2 everybody
2 give it a listen if U find it.Bittersweet,Lucky & Whoever
.These songs on this knocked me down!

Especially the Shep Pettibone remix. Sex on vinyl. Some of your choices I have never before so I guess I'll be at the second-hand store diggin' in tha crates this weekend. Paul Young's version of Everytime You Go Away-love it! Todd Rundgren-definately soulful.

The bassplaya on Everytime you go away is Pino Palladino.
He´s 2 of the grooviest & funkiest bassplayers I´ve seen.
He was with D'angelo on the Voodoo tour when they put on
a performance that totally knocked me off my feet.
Questlove was on drums but it was such a surprise that he had Pino on bass since he´s the famous bassplayer from the
eighties with the Paul Young & Howard Jones stuff.

I agree with all you say on Lewis Taylor (the first album is by far his best IMO) except that he wasn't really a member of D'Angelo's band, he went out to USA to meet D and inspired by the Voodoo recordings he heard in the studio he went back into the studio. D gives him props.

There are still people out there who appreciate good musicians. Smart move on D'Angelo's part.

I was gonna mention Remy Shand, he's got a couple of really nice cuts on his album. He's a throwback to the old school. Dig him. Feeln' ya on Bruce Hornsby. One on One should have been on my list. George Michael-Let just put the whole Faith album on there. Back in the day, we used to bump Rod Stewart's Do Ya Think I'm Sexy. Still brings a smile to my face today! Eric Clapton-I love Change the World, that bluesy feel it has to it. Herb Alpert-We bump the entire Keep Your Eyes On Me album. Diamonds is too funky.

Excellent additions, funkylsis! I will add Rod Stewart-"If You Want My Body" to that...hope that's the title.

good list, stymie.

I'd make a few changes, like:

Hall & Oates - Sara Smile

Kenny Loggins - Heart to Heart

Toto - Georgy Porgy

Boz Scaggs - Lowdown *

Ambrosia-Biggest Part Of Me
(very romantic; I think I'll play this at my wedding reception 1 day..)

Player - Baby Come Back
(a classic, good harmony)

Doobie Brothers - Minute By Minute * * *
(this might be my FAVORITE "Doobies" track.. Michael's voice is VERY soulful)
also

Michael McDonald - I Keep Forgettin'

Steely Dan - Hey Nineteen *
(I'm tempted to add "Peg" or "Time Out Of Mind" to this section..)

Elton John - I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues

* denotes: PARTICULARLY soulful or funky

Most of the songs here are slow to mid-tempo, for all-out funky dance tracks I'd add basically anything by Average White Band, or Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music"

I also notice no 1 has mentioned

Teena Marie..

is this because she was marketed as an "r&b act" from the start???

I think I'm missing quite a few others..

(& for once, Nettie, I'm following 1 of your posts!)
smile
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

I don't think Teena Marie was intentionally left off. Personally she didn't pop in my head at the time. Since you mentioned her, which songs were you thinking? Nothing is written in stone...yet.

Teena Marie - Portuguese Love
Remy Shand - I'm at Your Mercy
Herb Alpert was mentioned earlier, I've always loved "Rise" gotta add an instrumental or two to the mix.
Taylor Dayne - Tell it to My Heart

ACK I can't focus right now.

As I was typing out the songs for this thread, a lot of people kept popping in my head. I can't believe I left off Teena. The long version of Portugeuse Love is a classic. The percussion on that song does it for me. Teena's got so many hits. My favorites are Light, Deja Vu and Sucker For Your Love. Taylor Dayne-yes. I can be so scatter-brained sometimes. Another song popped in my head on my way home today and that's Miss You by the Stones. Pure bliss.

Riding in te car this morning, Miss Uptown, I thought about Christopher Cross and Queen. Another One Bites The Dust is so funky. So is Body Language. How dare I forget Peter Brown! Excellent! I had no idea Karen Young wasn't African American. I loved Rock The Casbah, Brass In Pocket, Break Out,etc., etc. I love this list period!

Feelin you on this list, PrettyMan72, especially on the Jane Child. The remix of that song is the bomb. Lisa Stansfield has one of the best female vocalist's voices, IMO. I just added Change to my wishlist this morning.
